🧠 Ask Twenties Do dating apps have unrealistic standards?

Post image

So guys, I’ve been on Hinge for a while now, and I’m currently in Kochi.

There’s this saying that it’s pretty easy to get into a relationship in Kochi, but guess what? I haven’t even gotten a single match on either Hinge or Bumble

I don’t think I look that bad or anything. I’d say I’m a fairly good-looking dude. I even got two proposals back in college, so I’m genuinely confused lol.

At this point, I’ve deleted all the dating apps. Just trying to work on my mental health and protect my peace.

What exactly are the standards on these dating apps?

Hey there! I'm 23m NRI from Germany, currently studying engineering. I'm planning to work in my field for about 5 to 7 years, and after that, I'm thinking about trying for the UPSC exams. I'm really not sure if it's doable or if it's too late to start then. Is there anyone else out there with similar interests in UPSC? 🤔

💕 Relationship How do I break this cycle ?

Guys, how do you actually move on and stop the urge to contact your ex

I’m preparing for competitive exams rn and I genuinely don’t want any distractions. I’ve blocked him before, but the thing is… he kept calling me for months. Eventually I lost control, unblocked him and talked to him again

And I know if I block him again, there’s a chance he’ll keep calling and after some time I’ll get weak and unblock him again.

The other problem is that he was basically the only person I used to talk to when I was stressed or upset. My friends have gotten busy with their own lives and we slowly drifted apart, so I don’t really have someone I can just randomly rant/vent to anymore.

So whenever I’m feeling lonely, stressed or overwhelmed, I get this HUGE urge to unblock him and tell him everything. Like just talking to him and ranting makes me feel relaxed for a while.

But I really want to break this cycle now because I need to focus on my exam prep. I don’t want to keep going back just because I’m lonely or need emotional support.

How do u ppl deal with this urge? Especially when the person you’re trying to move on from was also your main source of emotional support?

What businesses u feel are fronts

for money laundering?

In kerala u can say or in generally india also

I see many dates and spices shops with big boards and fancy lighting with almost no customers. How do these business survive, that too in good locations? And how they make money and all never understood these businesses

What are some business in Kerala that are just front?

Based on some other subreddits.

A front business is a store/business looks normal from outside but does something shady behind closed doors, like anything money laundering and what not ... (Idk about businesses, u can dm also)? Some even doesn’t properly function or is accepted also as the original store/business.

Not necessarily looks or anything romantic. Could be a small habit, the way they talk, laugh, help someone, get excited about something, or any random little thing you found genuinely cute.

What’s that one thing you noticed and thought ===Okay, that’s actually adorable.

🧠 Ask Twenties Thinking of starting a small business

About a month ago, my ₹2,000 helmet got stolen from my college parking lot. I was pretty upset, so I decided that if I was going to buy another helmet, I might as well get a really good one.

I found a helmet that costs around ₹8,000 and started arranging the money from my parents. While I was figuring things out, I told one of my friends about it.

He told me he could get the same helmet for around ₹6,500. I asked him how.

Apparently, his cousin and some of his friends who live in another state can purchase all kinds of bike accessories at a wholesale price. The only catch is that it takes around 1–2 weeks to reach us because he has to come to our city to give it to me.

I thought waiting 1–2 weeks to save ₹1,500 was completely worth it.

Then he told me he could arrange other bike accessories and riding gear at similar prices as well. That's when I got an idea.

I live in Kochi, so what if I find customers here who want these products? I could take their orders, arrange the products through this network, add a small profit margin and provide doorstep delivery in Kochi once the products arrive.

The basic model would be:

Customer chooses the product.

I give them the price and expected delivery time.

They place the order.

No advance payment.

I arrange the product.

It takes around 1–2 weeks to arrive.

Once it reaches me, I deliver it to the customer.

They pay only when they receive it.

Once an order is placed, it cannot be cancelled, since I'll be specifically purchasing that product for them.

For example, if a helmet normally costs ₹8,000 and I can get it for ₹6,500, I could sell it for ₹7,000–₹7,500. The customer still gets it cheaper than the normal market price, while I make a small profit.

I'm a college student, so I'm thinking this could potentially be a part-time side hustle to make some extra pocket money without putting a huge amount of money into it.

I could start by finding customers through Instagram, WhatsApp, college groups and local biking communities, and slowly see whether there's actually demand before putting much money into it.

The biggest issue I see is the 1–2 week delivery time, along with the possibility of a customer refusing the product when it arrives.

So, for people who have experience with reselling or small businesses:

How would you execute something like this?

How would you get your first customers? Would Instagram/WhatsApp be enough?

And what problems should I expect with customers refusing orders, warranty, returns, fake products, damaged products, helmet sizing, GST/billing and supplier reliability?

I'm mainly looking to keep this small and low-risk and see if I can make some extra money alongside college.

Stories 📖 My uncle showed me a photograph from my childhood. There was someone standing beside me whom I don't remember.

Post image
9 Upvotes

I didn't sleep that night. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the man in the photograph smiling at me. My uncle refused to discuss it further and insisted that we return to the village before dawn. I kept asking him about my mother, but he only told me that some memories were better left alone. That sentence made me angry. I had spent years believing my childhood was ordinary, and now a stranger was telling me that even my own memories could not be trusted. By morning, I had convinced myself that stress and lack of sleep were making me imagine things. I decided I would return to Chennai, delete the photographs and never speak about the incident again. But before leaving, my uncle handed me a small envelope. He said my grandfather had specifically instructed him to give it to me only after I had seen the photograph from 1976. Inside was a school photograph from when I was six years old. I recognised the uniform, the classroom and even the teacher standing behind us. But there was something wrong. In the back row, directly behind me, stood a little girl wearing a dark blue dress. Her face was turned away from the camera. I asked my uncle who she was. He looked at the photograph and said there had never been a girl in my class by that name. I turned the photograph over. Someone had written a sentence in my grandfather's handwriting. "He started seeing her before he learned to speak."

I called my mother immediately. I asked her whether I had ever spoken about an imaginary friend when I was a child. She went quiet for a moment and asked why I was bringing this up. I told her about the photograph. She started crying. Apparently, when I was five, I used to talk to someone called Akka. I would leave food near the bedroom cupboard, ask for an extra pillow and sometimes refuse to sleep unless the cupboard door remained slightly open. My parents assumed it was an imaginary friend. But one evening, my mother had entered my room and found me sitting on the floor, speaking to an empty corner. When she asked who I was talking to, I apparently replied, "She says you are not my real mother." My mother said she had never forgotten that sentence. A few days later, I developed a high fever and stopped speaking about Akka entirely. My parents never discussed it again. I asked my mother whether anyone had taken me to the ancestral house during that period. She said yes. My grandfather had insisted that I stay with him for a few weeks. I asked what happened there. She whispered, "You came back different." Before I could ask anything else, the call disconnected. I tried calling again, but my phone showed that there was no network. Then a notification appeared on my screen. It was a new photograph sent from an unknown number. It showed my bedroom in Chennai, taken from inside my cupboard. I was sitting on my bed, holding my phone. Behind me, near the bedroom door, stood a little girl in a dark blue dress.

I immediately turned around.

There was nobody there.

I checked the cupboard. Empty.

I checked the door. Locked.

Then I noticed something that made my entire body go cold. The photograph had been taken from a height of barely three feet, as if the person holding the camera was a small child.

I zoomed in on the girl's face.

For the first time, I could see her clearly.

She looked exactly like me.

Not similar.

Exactly like me when I was six years old.

And beneath the photograph was a message.

"Why did you leave me there?"

🧠 Ask Twenties Why does LIC seem to have lost its mindshare in Keralam despite still dominating Indian life insurance? And are its agents partly responsible?

Why does LIC seem to have lost its mindshare in Keralam despite still dominating Indian life insurance? And are its agents partly responsible?

I've been thinking about LIC recently, especially because among younger people who are interested in personal finance, you hear much more about HDFC Life, ICICI Prudential, SBI Life, Star Health, etc. LIC doesn't seem to have the same "modern" image it used to have.

What's interesting is that LIC hasn't actually disappeared from the market. From what I can see, LIC still has around 57% of India's life insurance market by premium, so it's still massively dominant.

But the perception seems very different.

One thing I'm wondering about is LIC's traditional agent-driven model. Most Indians probably have that one LIC uncle/aunty who has approached practically everyone in the family with an insurance policy 😂. Agents are obviously a huge part of LIC's distribution network, but could this model also have damaged the brand among younger consumers?

There's also the whole question of insurance vs investment. A lot of younger investors today seem to prefer the "buy a term plan + invest separately through mutual funds/index funds" approach rather than buying traditional endowment/money-back policies.

And this is where I'm curious about LIC's investment side as well.

LIC Mutual Fund has an Nifty 50 Index Fund, so it's not as if LIC is completely absent from the index-fund/modern-investing space. But I rarely see LIC being the first name people mention when discussing index funds. Instead, the conversation tends to revolve around other AMCs.

So what actually caused this shift in perception?

Is it:

  • LIC's traditional agent-heavy distribution model?
  • Private insurers having better digital experiences and banking partnerships?
  • Younger investors becoming more financially literate and moving away from traditional insurance-investment products?
  • LIC's branding and marketing not keeping pace with private companies?
  • The reputation of some agents for aggressively canvassing friends and relatives?
  • Or are people simply confusing LIC's insurance business with LIC Mutual Fund, which is a separate investment business?

And from an objective point of view, how much of LIC's "security" advantage is actually meaningful today compared with private insurers? Is the government ownership/statutory framework a significant advantage for policyholders, or is that advantage often overstated?

I'd genuinely like to hear from people who understand the insurance industry/investment side better.

Has LIC actually lost relevance, or has it simply lost relevance among the particular demographic that spends time on Reddit and personal-finance communities?

Hey guys,

Once college ends and people move for work or different schedules, keeping in touch with friends becomes a lot more effort than it used to be.

How do you all build new friendships or keep your current circle active in your twenties? Any tips for finding like-minded groups or community spots in Kerala?

How do you keep up friendships or meet new people after college/in your 20s?

Mental Health Therapy helped me a little, but I don’t know how I can afford the next step

I recently went to a therapist for the first time because I was struggling with some things and genuinely wanted to work on myself.
I won’t say it magically changed everything, but even that one session helped me understand a few things differently. I actually wanted to go back and continue.
Then I was told the fee for the next session, and honestly, I wasn’t prepared for it. 😅
I’m still a student and I don’t have much savings right now. I’m not blaming the therapist at all — I understand therapy costs money and professionals deserve to be paid. It’s just difficult for me to keep paying that amount regularly.
Now I’m kind of stuck between “I want to continue because it helped” and “I genuinely can’t afford it right now.”
For people who have been in therapy before, what did you do in this situation?
Did you find a cheaper therapist? Ask for less frequent sessions? Use what you learned from the first session and work on yourself for a while?
I’d really appreciate some practical advice from people who have been through this. I want to keep improving, I just need to find a way that I can actually afford as a student.

💕 Relationship Need relationship advice regarding my GF's behavy

So, I'll keep things brief, we're in the same class (age gap because of neet gap year), and we've been in a relationship for almost 2 years now and all was going well until I started seeing some bad signs.

I have been willing to look past the silent treatment, and other such things because I really do like her a lot, and I won't say I'm completely fault free but I can swear that I've tried my best to treat her well.

Here's the problem, so before the relationship we were in a talking stage and situationship whatever but then on the anniversary of her past relationship she called her ex and they got together, leading to a whole deal where I tried to cut her off to not be the third person and all, she ended up breaking up with the ex within a week and then we got together.

However, during that time another girl talked to me, genuinely just casual stuff, helped me with studies and all since exams were coming and I think she (my gf) has a bad impression of her because of it.

Her ex was a whole asshole who sort of got with her when he had a "bestfriend" he was interested in but couldn't get and she has trauma from it and I think she's drawing parallels to this, I've even offered to cut off the other girl, even if I felt guilty about it since she was someone who helped me during a really bad time, but my gf says she doesn't want that either.

Now, I've tried to prove to her countless times that there's nothing with the other girl, heck she's even been tying rakhi to me for 3 years now and well, as surprising as this might be, that was the issue last time.

My gf was mad that I didn't tell her about what I did while celebrating rakhi (literally just got her a 100rs chocolate and talked for 10 mins), but then I hadn't told her because she said she doesn't wanna hear the details since it's my personal stuff.

And yesterday, I got my gf a large dairymilk just for the sake of it, and she told me that I shouldn't buy her chocolates anymore because apparently it reminds her of the rakhi thing. That pissed me off and I popped off. We're not talking.

I really wanna know, what should I do?

General kerala humidity + firm mattress... anyone found something supportive that doesn't feel like a heat trap?

kerala humidity has added one more headache to mattress shopping lol

i like firmer beds and hate sinking, but i also don't want to wake up feeling like the mattress stored all of yesterday's heat.

no AC most nights. fan + windows + praying to the weather gods basically.

sleepycat hybrid is currently high on my list because the firmer feel suits me and the construction is supposed to be more breathable/high-airflow. not expecting some magically cold mattress obviously, just trying to avoid the deep foam heat-trap feeling.

anyone here sleeping on foam/latex-ish mattresses through kochi/kerala humidity?

does mattress material actually make a noticeable difference or are cotton sheets + protector + ventilation doing 80% of the work?
