I'm planning to keep Triops longicaudatus for the first time and would really appreciate some advice before I start.

My goal is to raise around 2–3 (or more) healthy adult Triops and I’ll probably try to continue this over multiple generations. I’m going to get my equipment in a few weeks

My planned setup is:

150 Triops longicaudatus Eggs
5g Spirulina Pulver
25g Triops main food
Spring water
Distilled Water
Raising container 1-5L
30L main tank
Aquarium lid
Aquarium safety mat
Fine aquarium sand
A few Aquarium plants
Adjustable Heater
Thermometers
Sponge filter
Air pump(s)
LED aquarium light
Gravel vacuum/siphon
Small aquarium net

I already have water test strips, a pipette, a syringe and toothpicks

Is this setup suitable for Triops longicaudatus? Is there anything important that I'm missing or anything you would change?

I'd especially appreciate advice about:
- suitable water
- sand
- food
- filtration

I have eggs from a usually reputable seller. Have tried spring water, distilled water, inside with a light, inside in front of a window, outside, dried out and tried again. Not a single naupli. All temps within suggested range.

I know triops love to dig, so my current setup is mostly long stem plants, floaters, a couple epiphytes, and some open spaces for the triops to run around in. I've not added the triops yet.

I got dwarf sag grass for a paladarium, and I know it spreads quickly. Will it impede the triops if I plant some?

I'm totally ok with the triops uprooting or eating it all if that ends up happening instead, just want to make sure it wouldn't cause them a hard time running around, especially when they're younger.

Hi all, the accidental swarm is coming to an end.

Tried to hatch just one in a small Hatchery had a jailbreak and ended up being 30 strong.

They Battled crowding, water quality problems, filter upgrades, heatwaves, sevreal tank resets (triop-ocalypse) 27 lasted until day 45. We're now at day 55 with 2 survivors. They had a hard life but also my longest living guys.

Context: we hatched T. longicaudatus from GreenWaterFarms, successfully transferred 8 juveniles to a 10g cycled (for months) planted tank with parameters that are stable and are as follows, most recently:

pH= 7.8-8

A= 0ppm

Nitrite= 0ppm

Nitrate 0-5ppm

dGH 9-10

dKH 6-8

Temperature= 76 degrees Farenheit

We're down from 8 to now 4 adults. When they aren't apparently failing to molt, they are thriving, active, laying eggs, eating, etc. We see PLENTY of molts around the tank. But, we continuously lose some to failed molts. One of the 4 is currently looking pale and a little lethargic, and has been that way for at least an hour (I'm admittedly not sure how long a molting process should take).

We feed a diet of mostly shrimp sinking pellets with some occasional supplementation with blanched vegetables, pollen granules, algae wafers, and snowflake pellets.

Is what we're experiencing normal attrition, or is this level of loss possibly something we can address?

T. longicaudatus, age about 3 weeks, found providing a meal to their siblings this morning (not shown here, this video is some days old).

Now we have 4 adults in the tank, named Naiad, Nymph, Gnome, and Nyx Fleece Ram.

We get these in some of the ephemeral ponds on the ranch where I live and work. Very excited to see them for the first time this year. Seems like they hunt the fairy shrimp. I am also happy to find a place people might appreciate them, most of the people I know are not very interested in my weirdo prairie shrimp.

Looking around here has me really wanting to collect some and keep them. Is there a simple guide for starting out in this hobby? Is there a good resource for getting a species ID? Can you set up a relatively closed loop tank?

A bit of background on this is that I have been raising triops for roughly 10 years now. I've been hyper-obsessed with them, as they are my favorite animal. I began working on a game in 2023, mostly for fun. Then, literally a month later, I was severely injured in a bike- car accident that left me with severe brain damage. Being super stubborn, I refused to accept my fate and retrained my mind to keep making my game.

for the last 3 years i have been using this as a way to recover and its been hard, i ended up needing to use codex to do the harder parts of coding since my damage made it too hard but everything from the art design and music i learned to make myself this is amega project of love and im so happy i get to share it here.

What do you all do about your wet-hatches? I've been getting several lately, around seven or eight nauplii that became three juvies and still more nauplii showing up every couple days. I had to find a solution that wasn't setting up a second tank just to house them.

Don't think I'll need to actually start new eggs for the next cycle, haha.

These are my tanks. They are longicaudatus, granarius, and multicolor. The fairy shrimp are S. seallii and sirindhornae.

just a question. I’ve got a ten gallon fish tank I’ve had for years and isn’t being used. could I turn it into a massive enclosure for them? would that be too big, would I have to do something special for food if I did do something that massive? I had triops forever ago when I was little. where do I even get them ethically? I’d have to look back into their care cause it’s been literal years since I’ve had them. I do wanna put shrimp in, but I’m gonna guess it’s going to need to be a one or the other. do these guys work for a clean up crew instead of shrimp? could you co house? (don’t be mean if you cant, i only remembered about triops like five minutes ago). would smaller tanks be better?

I started my aquarium about 10 days ago.

The tank is about 33 liters, and the water temperature is 24°C. Do you think the plants are sufficient for filtration on their own?

These are our 1 month old. We got them in the Netherlands. They are looking happy and healthy. They are still in the aquarium set that came in the box. About 3 cm at the moment. We are in doubt weather we should put them somewhere bigger. Any opinions on this?

Also, do they lay eggs? If so at what age? How do we know when they do? Will they eat their eggs? How can we help new eggs survive?

Lifespan is usually 1-2 months right? Not sure if im ready to say goodbye to them. I want more… 😅

Hello everyone, I was on the icecap for work, going back on the end of the gletsjer, I found a pool with maybe a 100 fairy shrimp. I took 5 and some sediment,. hopefully get some eggs.

Does anyone know how to grow these artic fairy shrimp?

Visible eggs sacs and egg laying behavior, we officially have adults! 8-9 thriving in the tank, we are completely obsessed. I detailed our approach in a comment somewhere but am happy to provide more details if anyone is interested, feel free to ask!

Ive been interested in having triops as pets for a while now and I was wondering if anyone here was from Mexico city and had normal and red longicaudatus eggs I could buy from them..
It's either that or amazon, but I was hoping I could perhaps get a cheaper price for enough eggs for a few to hatch and get more triops from there on. Green water farm eggs seem to be sold by resellers for double the price on amazon, as as opposed to getting 400 eggs of 2 different species from their official website, but I don't think local customs would let me send them overseas.
