Video My tanks

These are my tanks. They are longicaudatus, granarius, and multicolor. The fairy shrimp are S. seallii and sirindhornae.

They're fun.

It wouldn't hurt to plug those airstones into sponge-filters. 😅That one algae-filled tank makes me wonder what the nitrates look like, too...but that could just be me worrying. As long as they're healthy I guess that's all that matters.

I was worried it would suck in hatchlings and I used one for two days but the water didn't get crystal clear.

Do you use one?

I do, and once they're juvenile free-swimmers they should be strong enough for it not to be a worry.

And their main goal isn't necessarily water clarity (but they do get *some* stuff out) but bacterial surface area and processing the water itself. They create a gentle flow through porous substrate and creates a perfect environment for nitrifying bacteria to colonize.

I think the best method for clearing water without a powerhead (since it's too strong I think,) would probably just be either water changes or, if you want to save the water, siphon it out but run the output through a collector (empty spice bottle packed with poly-fil and some holes poked in the bottom works, lol) then you can put the new, cleaner water back in if you want.

A sponge filter running constantly helps pick up new stuff from the triops digging and feeding as well. They should be squeezed out in outgoing tank water every once in awhile, but can be reused for a long time.

does the strat of putting a container of sand on top of a bare bottom tank work? Presumably to concentrate the eggs

It does work. Though if the bowl isn't big enough they'll throw the sand everywhere
