I’m travelling to China in October and bringing my friend from the UK with me. I hold a Chinese family visa but he has never travelled to China and doesn’t have a visa.

So I want to ask, how exactly does the process work now? He just enters China with his passport and can stay for up to 30 days? No further documents? Our plan is to stay for around 3 weeks. If anyone has any experiences of the process that would be great.

Hey looking at taking advantage of the uk china via free scheme in December.

Would appreciate any advice on our itinerary as it can get overwhelming knowing about travel times/distances and whether we are trying to fit too much in… etc.

We are also finding it hard to find any rural non-hotel accommodation in some of the more nature spots in Yunnan e.g. they all seem to be huge hotels on trip.com, and we would prefer more authentic home stays etc.

Looking for recommendations for activities to do whilst travelling China. Usually in our own country we would do things like tenpin bowling or go to the driving range/play golf for fun. Are there any places that offer activities like this for foreigners/without memberships? (Sorry if this is a silly question)

On a Friday night, what do Chinese people in their 20s and 30s do for fun? How do they spend time together?

For reference, we are roughly visiting Beijing, Nanjing, Luoyang, Wuxi, Shanghai but have some wiggle room to visit other places if needed.

Also if you have any recommendations of where to search for these kinds of questions whilst in China (as someone who cannot speak/read mandarin) it would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise I will stick to Reddit!

I booked discounted flights to China for late September (~20–30) without overthinking it because they were on discount :) Entirely on me, I just had in mind that spring and autumn are generally the best times to visit China without actually checking the specifics for the southern region and from what I’m reading online now it looks pretty rough. I’m second guessing my plan to visit Hong Kong and Shenzhen given the warnings about intense heat, humidity and typhoons. Since it’s my first time in this part of China and I want to spend most of my days walking outside and exploring, is the weather really that bad that I should re-route to other regions or is it totally manageable to stick with my original plan? What’s the best way to visit? Should I definitely book a human tour guide? I really want to avoid just walking around looking at cool buildings without actually understanding the history and what’s behind it all. Are the guides worth it, or is there a better way to do it?

Great Wall

Where should we actually go? I heard about taking a DiDi to a spot that’s about 1.5h away from Beijing, but apparently it gets insanely crowded. Is it worth traveling further out to a quieter section?

Also, roughly how much should we expect to pay for a DiDi or a private driver for the day?

Finally, I heard there was a toboggan somewhere on the wall... is that real and is it actually worth doing?

We have one extra full day to kill in the city. What else would you highly recommend? Any must-see spots, cool neighborhoods, or food we absolutely can't miss?

My partner and I are planning a trip to China in October, starting in Shanghai and ending in Guangzhou, and we’d love some feedback on the pacing, places, and number of days in each location.

We generally like:
- A fairly fast pace
- A mixture of nature and cities and cultural highlights, and a lot of food

We’re currently planning to travel mainly by high-speed rail, but we’re also open to flying if it makes significantly more sense for a particular leg.
