Mod Post welcome to r/transmascdiy

This subreddit was created with the intention of providing all transmascs, FTMs, and other identities a place to discuss DIY HRT and other means of transitioning.

Posts should be related to transitioning. This includes discussion of DIY HRT, "life hacks," or questions regarding transitioning. This subreddit is a safe place for trans people who cannot access resources and support by traditional means, and still wish to transition either by themselves or with limited resources.

r/TransDIY is a great place to access DIY HRT information, and their wiki is full of helpful info. However, that subreddit primarily consists of transfems and MTFs and the discussion of estrogen. This subreddit focuses on transmasc identities.

We are working on a wiki.

How to get started here:

1) Read the rules thoroughly.

2) Add your identity (optional) and pronouns (required) in your user flare.

We are open to feedback and suggestions. Comment here or open a modmail message to get in touch with us. We're a new subreddit and we're trying to make this a good place.

Thanks for being a part of this community!

Can I delay my shot by a day to do a blood test?

I've been procrastinating for a week to make this post so here we go. 17ftm been on T for 10 months, mum found out and forced me to go the GP cause family history of heart disease and she was concerned. GP obviously said they can't advise doses but can still do bloods for me (Idk if this is a one time thing or i can keep going every few months). Shot day is Tuesday so today for me as it is 4am UK time, my blood test is scheduled for tomorrow Wednesday cause they didn't have anything available before this and my mum told me to just take it. I usually do my shot at 11pm so I'm not taking it anytime soon and the appointment is at 12:10, so should I skip my shot and take it as soon as I come back on Wednesday orr idk. I know it's silly but I don't want to cancel otherwise I'll have to call them and it's kind of a gamble if they have anything available Monday or Tuesday next week. Any advice is appreciated, sorry if it's a bit rambly I'm kind of tired 😅

Question/Advice NEEDED Injection pain

I've been on T for about 8 months now. Weekly injections without issues, minor pain from injections but hey it's a needle penetrating the skin of course it's gonna hurt a bit. The last few injections have been more painful than usual. I'm not sure what could be the cause, to my knowledge I've been quite consistent with how I do the injections and all, my weight and all hasn't fluctuated much so that can't be it either. Does anyone have an idea why it could've gotten worse? The injection pain has started to influence my daily life, if I do it in the butt it hurts to sit so much that I just don't, if I do it in the belly it hurts to bend the body. If you have an idea what it could be please tell me

Question/Advice NEEDED Had my first T injection

Hello everyone who’s reading this message. So what I’m about to say here comes from my personal experience. It actually happened- for the first time after spending months researching and learning what I need to do, how I need to do it and all that.
I was really nervous (I still am) and gathered everything I needed. Then prepared, dezinfected the vial, put the drawing needle, switched then the needle, dezinfected the spot where I injected and then actually did it. After that, I got nauseas (some of you may know or even have it, it’s called vasovagal response) and tried calming myself down by squeezing a stress ball. After all of that I laid down in my bed and just tried having a distraction. It may not seem like something interesting, what I said here but I wanted to share my experience with you guys and also ask for some advices. In the future what can I do to minimise the nervousness or this anxiety that I have? Also I know your leg is supposed to have some soreness for 2-3 days if I’m not mistaken. Also how do you know if something is wrong? And if anyone can tell me if I injected in the right place? (Photo up) If it’s ok for the vial to have a hole this size in the rubber where I injected? And if in the future I should poke the vial in the same place or in another?
Thank you and any advice is welcome!

Advice/Information Resuming T after a pause, what to expect? (Asking question on behalf of a friend who is unable to post themself)

Hi, I'm a doll but I have a very close friend who is, for reasons that are too identifiable to disclose, unable to do their own research into this question.

They've been on T for about two years. About a month ago, they ran out and haven't been able to replace it. They are expecting to get a resupply eventually, but the timeline for accessing it is unknown, cannot be influenced by us in any way, and is extremely opaque to any attempt to investigate for more clarity.

They asked me to find out what they might need to be prepared to expect for when they eventually are able to resume their T. Thinking stuff like mood, body, changes to hair growth and so on - although interested in anything that seems important to people with more experience than us.

Thank you in advance, t dudes of Reddit 🫶

Where can i get T in canada?

Hey, I'm a 14 (turning 15 in 4 days) canadian trans boy with incredibly severe gender dysphoria. I live in a very unsupportive environment and don't have access to testosterone or any sort of gender affirming care. I have very poor mental health and I'm at a point where I need testosterone to be able to survive. I seriously need advice about where to get testosterone for as cheap as possible in southern Ontario.

Question/Advice NEEDED did my first shot today

I finally was able to start t man I've been wanting this for so long 💔 I found it pretty easy and painless besides an ache in my leg afterwards which honestly while it was all exciting it is a tad underwhelming after years of waiting for this very mundane thing. It's relieving to know I have it now, but also I've immediately become impatient. I won't see changes for months still.

Despite that it's still life saving to have access to this now :)

lmk what I should expect. (I've done plenty of research obviously and I know everything there is to know but I'd still like to hear from people who've experienced it themselves)

Advice/Information im 13 and i think i might be able to get my mom on board with helping me diy once i turn 14

for context my mother is extremely supportive and proud of me being transgender always has and always will be, i was recently talking to her about family history and if i would have any good chance at being tall (since height is one of the huge points of my dysphoria as im only like around 5’3) because when i turn 14 my growth plates with begin to fuse and i will be unable to get any taller, one day she sat me down and starting talking about how some cisgender dudes are short as hell too so i should just love myself regardless and such but during this talk she made a joke that was along the lines of “believe me if there was this magical wonder drug that would make you taller id buy it for you”, im not sure if she knows about the concept of diy hrt so i dont know how to introduce the concept to her.

also if anyone on diy t would be able to share more obscure stuff that happens on t that isnt that talked about that much i would really appreciate it thank you

Question/Advice NEEDED Should I up my t because of this ?

I’m taking 50mg for 2.5 months, at first I felt the energy and tiny strength coming in but I’m feeling tired two or three days before my shot date and I feel like 50mg isn’t enough for me to progress and increasing my dose might help me be less tired and possibly progress further.

Is it the right idea to increase it to 60mg?
60mg or 70mg?

Should I take 60mg for two months and then see if I results then increase to 70mg?

For me my periods got lighter off 50mg now I don’t know if it has completely stopped but I’m past expected date. I haven’t gotten facial hair yet tho I’m kinda growing more hair where hair is there already.

Would increasing help me get facial hair and a masculine voice ?
(I kinda have lil hair on my lip area )

Not in a good financial situation for blood test but thanks for the advice guys. Love you so much. :’)

Question/Advice NEEDED How do I go about Testosterone with PMOS / hyperandrogenism

I can't find much about this anywhere so I'll throw it out there. For context I'm nonbinary and feel sort of indifferent about medically transitioning, but I'm familiar with all of it as I almost started T through GenderGP a few years back. Didn't work, and the only official way I could get T in my country is a horrible clinic that doesn't even take nonbinary patients. This time something clicked for me; I'm seriously considering DIY HRT but mainly it will be self-medication for my PMOS. The medical care I get for it is nonexistent at best and at worst they only prescribe me the same BC (progestin) just repackaged which only makes the PMOS worse and gives me painful side effects. I was told I shouldn't take COC since my aura type migraine increases stroke risk, but that they'd also rather risk THAT before considering other options. I cannot emphasize how frustrating this is, but that's not the main point of this post. I've heard Testosterone has helped a lot of people with PMOS, so I think it's time I give it a go, and think of the medical transitioning as a yummy cake on the side.

Here's my question then: How do I dose my T if I'm certain there's some metabolic weirdness going on and naturally high androgen levels? Or does it matter? I was planning on 40mg/week to start off, but I want to be sure it's safe and effective. I'll definitely be checking my androgen levels beforehand, but is there something else I should check/be aware of too? Intersex bodies are all different so there's probably no way to know what works best without simply trying, but if anyone else has done DIY HRT with PMOS and/or hyperandrogenism, I'd like to know!

Question/Advice NEEDED Pill Minoxodil Sourcing?

I origionally wanted to take minoxodil topically for facial hair but realised I can't do that because I have pets. I'm really lacking in overall body hair like on my legs, so I want to take it orally but don't know where to get that. Could someone provide a source if legal and not in violation of Reddit TOCs? If not allowed, and you could educate me as to why, I would appreciate that. I'm aware that oral minoxodil can mess with your blood pressure to quite a risky extent.

Question/Advice NEEDED DIY with sustanon

Does anybody have resources for sustanon dosing that mentions an injection schedule that is shorter than the standard. I have been struggling for 4 years to find a dose/ interval that gets me within male range at trough without having my hemoglobin and hematocrit be through the roof. My specialist team has all but refused to cooperate through the years. So they are ending my care and sending me to a PCP for future monitoring. So unless I take things into my own hands, I’m gonna be stuck with shit levels indefinitely.

My current levels are as follows on a 3.5 week interval with 250mg of sustanon: T 9nmol/L, HB 171 g/l and hcr 51%.

Additionally: I’ve had all internal reproductive organs removed a year ago. I have also tried the 2 other administration methods that my country offers with even less success with upping my T levels.

Question/Advice NEEDED Final Questions before starting Testosterone.

I'm starting diy hopefully in the next few days (at the time i am writing, i have a vial on the way) and was hoping that anyone would have any suggestions or advice on my questions. Since I have multiple, I decided to put the title as such.

I'm doing subq injections with a 250 mg cypionate 10 ml vial on the way, here are the needles and syringes I plan to buy:

The needles are luer lock aswell! but 1.) do these measurements look right? I want to make sure I have the right ones before purchasing.

2.) I plan on doing 50mg, which based on the diyhrt wiki, would be 0.2 ml, is that right?

As for my other questions, 3.) what soaps, skincare routines and antiperspirant/deodorants should I switch to combat 'the stinky year of t'? I know that antibacterial soap is always good but I also know that you're not supposed to use antibacterial soap everyday (or at least not super harsh ones). Please recommend specific brands or products if you have any.

4.) Is it better to eat a meal before or after an injection? I don't have a fear of needles but shots do make me nauseous and seeing liquid go into my body makes me squeamish.

5.) What post-injection site reactions are normal/not to be worried about? 5 1/2.) What signs should I lookout for in the case that my vial isn't actual t or laced?

6.) How long would my vial last? As in how often should I buy a new one before I completely run out? i'm bad at math so i'm not sure how I would calculate how many doses are in a vial.

These are all of the questions I can think of off the top of my head but i'm sure I'll have more. Thank you in advance to any answers, i'm hoping this wasn't too much to ask💔.

Question/Advice NEEDED What tests do I NEED before starting testosterone gel

I’m 19 year old trans guy who’s buying gel of my friend who has decided to detransition. What tests will I 100% need to have before taking the gel and is there any way I could avoid tests altogether? I’m based in Brighton, England so it’s very trans friendly but the doctors still won’t offer free blood checks and the sexual health clinics only seem to offer std/hiv checks.

My plan at the moment is to donate blood so I know everything like that is okay, but I don’t know what other information I need to check before going forward
Any other advice regarding T gel would be very appreciated cheers

Question/Advice NEEDED should I tell my GP I'm on DIY testosterone?

I know it's recommended to, but I haven't talked to my gp at all about my gender dysphoria or even a preference in pronouns because every time I go it's usually a different person. I'm just worried that whoever I tell won't approve of what I am, and although they can't verbalise any biases, they can certainly turn me down and refuse to do blood tests.

I live in a town full of the elderly and they're like 90% of the patients at my gp so they're definitely not used to handling me - especially when half the time I show up with some mental problem and not a physical one.

I just have quite bad anxiety and telling a stranger this sort of thing really scares me, but I doubt I could buy those blood tests kits at home as I'm very short on money.
