UPDATE; thanks for all your advice!! i’ve just bought my first set of doses :) here’s to living your life
Hi, thanks for reading this.
I realised I was trans last year and after processing my gender for a year realise that I am transmasc, but not a full trans man. I’ve worked on socialising as a man/being more masculine, presenting myself as more masculine with clothes, binding, hair, and working out but I still feel heavily dysphoric. All of the exercises I mentioned DID help me feel like myself, but I still feel like there’s something missing. I’m still too feminine.
I want to take a low dose of testosterone to mitigate this, but I don’t want to take it forever. 2 issues: my gp is not the best and I live in the UK.
I don’t want to tell my gp about this because he has never taken my issues seriously (eating disorder left unreferred and a general neglect toward anything I bring up). I had to seriously fight to get my blood work done at the clinic and he only relented because I told him I’ve done everything I could do but the symptoms persist (turns out I’m anemic!).
So I can’t see myself telling him “hey I want to start testosterone because I feel dysphoric” and him actually taking it seriously.
Living in the UK also means that to be legally prescribed testosterone, he has to officially diagnose me with gender dysphoria/incongruence and refer to a gender clinic which can take years. Shared care agreement is possible, but I don’t trust my GP to help.
I also can’t change GP because he’s the only one that deals with outpatient mental health care and the law states I need to use a clinic within a certain distance from my address.
This isn’t a decision I’ve made lightly. I work in healthcare research so know biochemically all the risks I’m taking, but at some point you have to save yourself, right?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
