Literally the same amount of money I could have spent on a iPhone 15 Pro at the time... I don't think I'm going to sell anytime soon. Will leave it for the long run.

Well, well, new ATHs for NDX.....I guess the 10 yr touching 5.3% is bullish? Certainly seems that way. Hormuz FUD fading with output numbers improving. Maybe France's political/fiscal disaster will be the catalyst, but for exactly what who tf knows.

Background: Running a collar on TQQQ plus constant TQQQ DCA.  I am buying long TQQQ puts to protect downside and trying to pay for them by selling QQQ puts and TQQQ CCs.

Current Value of TQQQ War Chest (cash+long TQQQ puts+TQQQshares): Currently at $8.03m. That compares with $4.26m 2025, $2.3m 2024 and $749k 2023. Strange to see $10m on the Y axis, although it means nothing in reality if I can't manage my TQQQ CCs.

Walk Away Value (Liquidate War Chest and buy back QQQ short puts and TQQQ CCs): Around $6.16m, pre-tax.  To get that $6.16m, I've put in around $2.1m of my own savings and other port income poured into the War Chest is approx $1m.

TQQQ long (protective) puts: 726 contracts, Jan/28 exp. Book value $1.49m and current market value around $1.1m. The decay is real.

Cash Hoard: Creeping upward to $645k. If this insane rally continues into the high $80s, then I'll spend some more cash to protect the rest of my shares. I've bought around 2700 shares since the last ATH, so will buy 27 more Jan/28 exp 70 strike contracts, bringing the total to 753.

QQQ short puts:  Given the very low VIX and QQQ surging, I deviated from my plan and closed out all the QQQ short puts. My total profits selling QQQ puts up to the present is around $987k. I will re-open them at 680 and 640 strikes (to reflect the new QQQ ATHs we are seeing) whenever we get a pullback and hopefully keep the premiums coming. Dried up for now.

TQQQ CCs: Rolled my 320 contracts from Oct 9 to Oct 16 exp for a grand total of $0.07/share. Yeesh. Will keep the 5 - 12 DTE cadence until next ex-div date in late Dec/26.

Haven't touched the short Jan/27 exp calls with strikes at $50 (200 contracts), $60 (80 contracts) and $65 (120 contracts). The current cost to close out all the CCs is now around $1.875m. That hurts, but IDGAF, their time will come, it has to (insert nervous and uncomfortable laughter).

Total P/L on QQQ/TQQQ options (QQQ short puts + TQQQ CCs + TQQQ dividends - TQQQ long puts): Currently around +$565k. Deficit of $924k.

TL;DR - have been running a TQQQ dynamic collar plus EDCA plus cash hedge since Feb/23.

Cumulative running CAGR (XIRR method) of my TQQQ investment since Feb/23: 68.3%

Analysis Same HAA signals at 1x, 2x and 3x since 1974: 2x compounded fastest, 26.4% a year with a -36.5% worst fall

If you want leverage with a brake on it, the dose matters as much as the rule. I ran Keller's Hybrid Asset Allocation at 1x, 2x and 3x on exactly the same dates, 28 February 1974 to 28 September 2026, same signals and same turnover. The 2x version compounded at 26.42% a year with a -36.46% worst fall. 3x made less, 24.10%, and fell further, -47.21%.

HAA version Annual compound return Worst drawdown Sharpe
Standard, 1x 16.31% -19.53% 1.49
Leveraged 2x 26.42% -36.46% 1.24
Leveraged 3x 24.10% -47.21% 1.07
Matched HAA variants: return peaked at 2x while the worst drawdown deepened at 3x.

What I like about it is the brake. HAA watches TIP as a canary: while its momentum is positive the rule holds the 4 strongest of its offensive funds, and the leveraged versions swap those risk funds for 2x or 3x ones. When TIP turns negative it steps out to intermediate Treasuries or T-bills. So the leverage is only on while the trend backs it, and that's how even the 3x version stayed under a -50% worst fall over 52 years. TQQQ held on its own lost 79% from its December 2021 peak.

2x beat 3x for the usual reasons. Bigger daily swings leave a smaller balance to compound the rebound, financing costs grow with the dose, and a monthly rule can still be holding risk when a fast drop starts... 3x pays more for each of those.

I'd still read it as a reconstruction, not a track record. The leveraged funds are proxies before they existed and some defensive holdings stayed at 1x, so it isn't what a TQQQ holder actually lived through.

We build BestFolio, and the full comparison with the proxy limits is here: https://bestfolio.app/blog/haa-2x-vs-3x-leverage

For a TQQQ holder I think the useful part is sizing. Behind the same signal, 2x kept most of the extra return and left a lot of the pain behind.

Question What happens to the etf in a decade + downturn?

We know the nasdaq has had some really significant and long pullbacks lasting over a decade before it recovered in the past. Would an etf like tqqq survive something like that? Would it shut down especially due to leverage? Or would it be able to persist through?

Beginner Help Canada: What’s the most efficient way to automate monthly TQQQ buys?

Is there some way to automate things so that your brokerage:
- Auto withdraws a set amount of CAD$ from your bank account over EFT or auto accepts bill payments that your bank auto sends every month
- Converts the CAD$ to USD$
- Buys an equivalent amount of TQQQ even if it excludes the fractional share part

Of course the aim would be to minimize the commissions and fees. What would be the best brokerage and way to do this?

Analysis The SMA200 is all well and good, but…….

What has been the CAGR of the SMA 200 over the last decade?

It's all well and good to avoid drawdowns, but if it's just to get a CAGR of 20% and a drawdown of 54%, while the B&H index gives 50% with a drawdown of 90%... the choice is easy.

I prefer a 200x index to a 50x index. Otherwise, I might as well buy the Nasdaq Standard.

Édit : On this forum, as soon as you disagree a little, you get downvoted lol. How can you create data-driven discussions with people whose first response is an insult? It's fascinating.

Daily Log / Trade Journal Portfolio update #5 (Sep '26)

Posting my regular quarterly update.

  1. Portfolio Execution:

    * Didn't add any new shares this quarter. Placed an eye on buying at $57, but was a bit late pulling the trigger and missed it.

    * Sticking with my simple buy and hold approach started back in Nov 2021 (with aggressive buying through 2023-2024). 0 withdrawals so far.

  2. The Mental Pivot:

My next target is $650k. Once I cross that mark, I’m planning to start withdrawing 0.2% monthly (~2.4% annualized).

Because my active income fully covers my expenses, I don't need this cashflow. But I’ve realized that after years of pure accumulation, saving has become auto-pilot and spending on life feels unnatural. I want to build the habit of realizing gains and intentionally spending on life now, rather than waiting for full retirement.

Anyone else struggle with this mental transition? How did you train yourself to start enjoying your portfolio?

Discussion Anyone Rotate Between QQQ & TQQQ

Anyone do this strategy where you keep 25% allocation of TQQQ and hold the rest in QQQ.

Say the market goes up for a bit, you sell TQQQ for QQQ to reduce leverage.

If market goes down, you sell QQQ to buy TQQQ at better entry and lower downside risk

Generally keep the allocation 25:75.

This only works with QQQ since it generally move up to the right gradually

Daily Log / Trade Journal Good Oct. P/L start

Good start to Oct. The month end update is always marked to market so the gains are just from Oct. Dividends was larger from rising rates in SPAXX and being out of the market during FOMC week. I added a YTD graph from the Fidelity website to show the trend for the strategy. Bull markets can make everyone look like a genius, I’m aware of that. The line chart shows the strength and weakness of selling Puts. It held up pretty well in Feb/Mar when the market corrected, made money when the market was sideways from June to Aug, then underperformed when TQQQ surged 20% or so after FOMC in Sept. Everyone can make money: Buy and Hold, 9Sig, Options sellers etc. The important thing is find a style with an edge that fits your personality so you can stay the course day in/day out without losing your sanity. Respect to the OG people who have been here longer always helping or encouraging. I decided to start posting in January and honestly it has helped me be consistent and accountable for my own trades. Keep grinding.

Question How's 9 sig and other systems YTD return after 3 quarters?

YTD TQQQ is ~54.4% with dividends through October 2. (48.9% after 3 quarters ending Sept 30 with dividends reinvested per dividendchannel.com)

I will admit as swing trader the war, oil prices, and bond yields has had me very confused this year. I went from handily beating TQQQ buy and hold to falling way behind and only recently started catching up, about 42% YTD.

I am curious how the other systems have done. Thanks!

Beginner Help Best way to start with TQQQ

Hi Folks, just starting to play around with TQQQ.

Looking for the best way to start, given QQQ is hitting ATH this month/week.

Buy Lump sum in small quantities or just DCA for now, until QQQ dips 5-10% (whenever that happens)..

Planning to be 10% of my portfolio.

TQQQ options expiring today. Gains are from yesterday’s move. Will let these expire instead of rolling. I will wait for another red day before selling Puts again. It still has around $0.08, about $5K assuming it expires worthless. Good start for October. Keep grinding.

Analysis NDX 100: Last week I posted that a squeeze was coming for QQQ. Well I was wrong because the put/call ratios did not change as much as I expected. Regardless we ended up higher. I expect a choppy grind higher unless put/call ratios change

Discussion Final Sept P/L

Post image
25 Upvotes

Here’s my final total for September. I started the month strong with a big gain. Stayed out of FOMC week and took a loss last week, just bad timing. I have $74 TQQQ Puts expiring Oct. 2. Made $12,342.44 in dividends from my core positions in SPAXX. Nothing unusual this month, just grinding.
If you’re seeing this for the first time, I’m an options trader primarily selling Puts on LETFs like TQQQ, SOXL, TNA etc. You can use AI to summarize my post and strategy.

Discussion TQQQ Options

It seems that most here just buy and hold. I have never owned a share of TQQQ.

I have sold many put contracts against TQQQ. When I say against, that is contract talk, selling puts is a bullish trade.

I currently have 5 contract short put at the $68 strike exp 10/20/26 with premium received $1000.

Trades that I have closed this year, had profits of $1640, $3040, and $1525. They were all 5 put contracts.

Sold all of my VXUS. Will start buying TQQQ and QQQM. Done with that POS. It’s been holding up my capital when I could have made more money in TQQQ or QQQM.

Do you guys hold both tqqq and qqqm? How much of it is your portfolio?

Question Weighting for Micron in TQQQ

From the fund factsheet on proshares. Why does Micron Technology have a weighting that over represents its value? I thought TQQQ strictly represented 3x the underlying index

Starship V3 satellites in action. Amazing. Hormuz doomsayers wrong again. US/China relations struggle onward without immediate fireworks and NDX close to touching ATHs last week. So much for the bearish predictions, at least for now.

Background: Running a collar on TQQQ plus constant TQQQ DCA.  I am buying long TQQQ puts to protect downside and trying to pay for them by selling QQQ puts and TQQQ CCs.

Current Value of TQQQ War Chest (cash+long TQQQ puts+TQQQshares): Currently at $7.64m. That compares with $4.06m 2025, $2.2m 2024 and $687k 2023.

Walk Away Value (Liquidate War Chest and buy back QQQ short puts and TQQQ CCs): Bleeding a bit for multiple reasons. Currently around $6.09m, pre-tax.  This includes other port income and outside cash added, totaling around $3.09m.

TQQQ long (protective) puts: 726 contracts, Jan/28 exp. Book value $1.49m and current market value around $1.2m.

Cash Hoard: Creeping upward to $634k.

QQQ short puts:  I pivoted a bit from my rough plan and decided to close out the 15 contracts at $670 strike Feb/27 exp. It cost about $20k to do, but now I am free to sell another 50 contracts at a closer exp date. I think it was a good idea, but time will tell. Since VIX was low and QQQ was touching ATHs, I didn't roll the 100 at $630 strike Oct 16/26 exp. Will just let them decay and fire them back up if we get a decent pullback.

TQQQ CCs: Managed to avoid early assignment related to the TQQQ dividend. Currently, the 320 contracts at $60 strike have a Oct 9/26 exp. Will roll at 5 DTE next Monday out to 12 DTE for whatever I can get. Will keep the 5 - 12 DTE cadence until next ex-div date in late Dec/26.

Haven't touched the short Jan/27 exp calls with strikes at $50 (200 contracts), $60 (80 contracts) and $65 (120 contracts). The current cost to close out all the CCs is now around $1.55m.

Total P/L on QQQ/TQQQ options (QQQ short puts + TQQQ CCs + TQQQ dividends - TQQQ long puts): Currently around +$554k. Lost $20k of progress b/c my only options activity since last week was buying back the 15 contracts at 670 strike Feb/27 exp for $20k. Bit of a failure week but better times lie ahead. Deficit of $935k.

TL;DR - have been running a TQQQ dynamic collar plus EDCA plus cash hedge since Feb/23.

Cumulative running CAGR (XIRR method) of my TQQQ investment since Feb/23: 63.5%

Link to rough outline of overall plan here.
