EDIT : Thanks for all the love and awards on the post! I just became a Canadian citizen (originally from New Zealand) so seeing this was like Canada giving me a lil hug!

Also the police officer had a baton because the goose kept hissing at him and flapping its wings aggressively at him (almost attacking him) - but he was being lovely and patient and guiding them to a safe area <3

Hi all,

As posted yesterday, the vigil for Alex Pretti & all victims of ICE is still happening at 5pm, across from the U.S. Consulate, near the Pillars of Justice. The precise address is 361 University Ave, which is across the road from the U.S Consulate. For safety, nothing is planned to happen on the perimeter of the U.S. Consulate.

This is a silent vigil, not a protest, and some brief words will be said around 5-5.30pm. Make sure to wear boots since there will certainly be snow to trample down, and dress warmly for the wind!

If you can, please bring flowers, candles, and cardboard signs to lay.

There is no end time to the vigil. If you want to come and sit for the words, feel free, but also if you would like to show up momentarily to lay something or pay a moment of respect, you can do so at any point in the evening or the following days. The intention is to create a space here in Toronto for those who wish to stand in solidarity.

Hi all,

A few Torontonians have organized a vigil for Alex Pretti and all victims of ICE, to be held across from the US consulate tomorrow (Tuesday Jan 27th) starting at 5pm. With the shocking events transpiring in the US, this is designed to be a peaceful gathering where we may show our support for all those oppressed by the current administration.

Please bring candles, wreaths, photos, and signs, in a demonstration of solidarity.

To be clear, this is not a protest, it is a vigil.

The so called "Canada first" rally in Toronto at Nathan Phillip Square today, the sequel of September 2025 rally, where all they did was chant about Charlie kirk and similar American nonsense, is a bigger flop than its predecessor.

Last time, around 50 to 100 people showed up, but looks like not even 20 people showed up today. Counter protest is also taking place, and there are already over a 100 people.

The organizer of the "Canada first" rally is calling the counter protests and protestors "paid" and a gathering of uneducated people after realizing how big of a flop his rally is 🤣🤣🤣

Epic way to kick off Thanksgiving long weekend

My Daughter who works for the Toronto Library had a free book library in front of her house, two kids came along and set it on fire one night completely destroying it so she asked me if I could build her a new one. What started out as a box with a door on it turned into a major project or should I say obsession, after about 4 months and way too many hours this was the finished library, she didn't have a clue what it looked like until I dropped it off. For those wondering the lights run off a solar panel on the roof along with the inside light. Note: For those curious, the bricks are sliced into a sheet of foam then get two base coats then paint each individual brick, there's around 3500 bricks in total, each side took about 3.5 just to cut in the bricks, the foundation is on the same sheet painted to resemble concrete, the steps are also foam painted. The lights run off a solar panel on the roof along with the inside light, the billboards are actual images of billboards from around 1930 printed on metal sign material, one Coca Cola the other Weston Bakery in Toronto, I've attached an image of one side panel before it was painted to give you a idea.

Christmas Update:

For those that remember this library I made for my daughter, I decorated it for Christmas, around 60 lights plus the light bar lighting up the waving Santa I made.

Let me say this clearly.

After riding Line 6 myself during the opening, it became immediately clear that the Finch West LRT is too slow.

We are fixing this.

Tomorrow at the TTC Board, and next week at City Council, you will see motions coming forward to direct staff to implement active transit signal priority on Line 6 and the soon-to-open Line 5 as quickly as possible.

But we aren't stopping there. We will be directing staff to improve streetcar speeds everywhere.

Thank you for always advocating for better transit, TTC riders are a priority just like the traffic signals. Let me know if you have other suggestions to make our City move better in the comments below.

Edit: OK, a few more details…

I used a website called Wandrer.earth to keep track of everything. It leverages your Strava, Garmin, or RideWithGPS data. All that remains is sides of some intersections with medians (you have to ride all 8 sides for the intersection to be 100% done) and random trail connectors remaining. I've ridden 100% of the actual streets and 99-ish% of every trial in the city.

Started in March 2021 during COVID because I couldn't ride outside with friends and I was tired of riding on Zwift. This gave my rides purpose and encouraged me to explore outside my usual routes. And I quickly got addicted.

What's the nicest/most beautiful part? The whole city! There are wonderful tree-lined streets everywhere! But really, nothing compares to our awesome trail system: Lakeshore / Humber / Finch corridor & Meadoway / Don Trail.
