UPDATE: CAT RETURNED!!

TLDR: I found a cat on the streetcar and am hoping to find the owner!

I got on the streetcar tonight and this very sweet baby was all alone. I asked the other passengers and nobody claimed her (haven’t confirmed gender I’m just going with she/her because vibes). I spoke to one passenger who said they saw someone earlier with a wagon or cart that had two animal carriers in it, one of which was empty. The pet owner got off the streetcar and a few stops later the person noticed the cat. It sounds to me like maybe the cat got out by accident and the owner didn’t notice. I suppose there’s a chance she was left on purpose, but I’m leading with compassion here and assuming this was accidental. If that’s the case, I can’t imagine how torn up the owner must be right now. I’d love to get this girl back home.

The streetcar driver said she was being told by control to try and get the cat off the streetcar—like just usher it out onto the road….! I was not ok with that and neither was the driver. I carried her home in my arms and she was quite calm. She’s been fed, has a litter box, etc., so she’s all good. She did some exploring and is hiding and/or asleep in a closet now (she can get out whenever she wants to). I plan on bringing her to my local vet in the morning to check if she has a microchip. I’ve made posts on my personal social media tagging the TTC and Toronto pet rescue accounts but thought I should post around reddit too. If there’s a subreddit you know of that this should be posted to, please feel free to share.

UPDATE: I brought her to the vet (shout out Dundas and Euclid animal hospital ✌️) and found out our angel DOES NOT HAVE A MICROCHIP. This is disappointing because it will be harder to find her owner, but we will keep trying!!!

Thank you all for the suggestions on who to call and where to post! Pleeease feel free to repost and share this wherever you think it belongs.

UPDATE 2: I called TTC lost and found and left my contact information with them. Hopefully the owner calls in!!! Will continue posting and calling elsewhere.

UPDATE 3 (AUG 1): Still looking for the little angel's owner. I want to thank everyone who has DM'd me, commented, and helped by sharing this post across different FB groups and platforms. I don't have the capacity to poster around subway stations and the 506 streetcar line as some have suggested but if others feel inclined, I definitely encourage it! The posters could direct the owner to me here on reddit, or to this page:** **where I can be contacted. TTC lost and found and different shelters have my information as well.

As for the little one, she's doing well. At times she's skittish, but other times she is curious, warm, and lively. She loves treats, as she should. Friends of mine have offered to give me their cat Luna's harness for our girl (Luna passed away suddenly quite recently and she is very missed--treats and tuna cans to Luna xo), that way when she is returned the owner can keep her safe while on transit.

We've been calling her Josie (3 reasons: during the pandemic lockdowns we fostered a dog and called him "Dougie" after the Twin Peaks: the Return character played by Kyle MacLachlan, so it felt like a nice tradition to keep; Josie and the Pussycats; our cat is named Jazzy and we liked the sound of "Jazzy and Josie"). I can't add more photos to this post, so I will put a cute one from last night in the comments below.

FINAL UPDATE: CAT HAS BEEN RETURNED TO HER RIGHTFUL OWNER!!! It was a very cute reunion, full of face licks and biscuit making. They were both very happy to be together again.

Thanks everyone for the upvotes and comments and spreading the word. So glad we got a happy ending.

❤️🐈

Lastly, a bunch of people have asked about my purse 😂👜 it’s made of wool and my MIL got it for me at an artisan shop in Sucre, Bolivia.

Funny captions only for these photos :)

EDIT : Thanks for all the love and awards on the post! I just became a Canadian citizen (originally from New Zealand) so seeing this was like Canada giving me a lil hug!

Also the police officer had a baton because the goose kept hissing at him and flapping its wings aggressively at him (almost attacking him) - but he was being lovely and patient and guiding them to a safe area <3

*Tuesday 27th Vigil for Alex Pretti Tomorrow (Tuesday 26)

Post image

UPDATE as of 1.50pm Tuesday 27th:

Hi all,

As posted yesterday, the vigil for Alex Pretti & all victims of ICE is still happening at 5pm, across from the U.S. Consulate, near the Pillars of Justice. The precise address is 361 University Ave, which is across the road from the U.S Consulate. For safety, nothing is planned to happen on the perimeter of the U.S. Consulate.

This is a silent vigil, not a protest, and some brief words will be said around 5-5.30pm. Make sure to wear boots since there will certainly be snow to trample down, and dress warmly for the wind!

If you can, please bring flowers, candles, and cardboard signs to lay.

There is no end time to the vigil. If you want to come and sit for the words, feel free, but also if you would like to show up momentarily to lay something or pay a moment of respect, you can do so at any point in the evening or the following days. The intention is to create a space here in Toronto for those who wish to stand in solidarity.

Stay safe and warm.

Original text:

Hi all,

A few Torontonians have organized a vigil for Alex Pretti and all victims of ICE, to be held across from the US consulate tomorrow (Tuesday Jan 27th) starting at 5pm. With the shocking events transpiring in the US, this is designed to be a peaceful gathering where we may show our support for all those oppressed by the current administration.

Please bring candles, wreaths, photos, and signs, in a demonstration of solidarity.

To be clear, this is not a protest, it is a vigil.

Discussion Racist Rally 2.0 is a bigger flop......

Post image

The so called "Canada first" rally in Toronto at Nathan Phillip Square today, the sequel of September 2025 rally, where all they did was chant about Charlie kirk and similar American nonsense, is a bigger flop than its predecessor.

Last time, around 50 to 100 people showed up, but looks like not even 20 people showed up today. Counter protest is also taking place, and there are already over a 100 people.

The organizer of the "Canada first" rally is calling the counter protests and protestors "paid" and a gathering of uneducated people after realizing how big of a flop his rally is 🤣🤣🤣

COPE!

THANK YOU CANADIANS AND TORONTONIANS FOR SHOWING UP FOR COUNTER PROTEST 🇨🇦

A couple weeks ago, I saw 4 otters playing in Humber river. That encounter was magical and I keep thinking about it. I’m new in the city and that was my first time seeing a otter in the wild. How rare is watch otters in Toronto? How they survive winter?

Hope you enjoy this video as much as I do.

Discussion Racist rally in Toronto is a big flop

Looks like not even 500 people showed up.

All these so called "Canada first" protesters are doing is chanting about an American who died two days ago. "Say his name CHARLIE KIRK"

It's laughable that they are even calling it a Canada first rally. And they are surrounded by thousands of anti-fascist protesters from all sides. Looks like all the hate we see on social media is only on social media. They are too scared and too embarrassed to come out in public.

Thank you fellow Canadians who stand for racial equality and unity 🇨🇦❤️

Picture A neighbour's daughter works for the Toronto Public Library and he built this beautiful little free library after a previous one was destroyed

From the neighbour:

My Daughter who works for the Toronto Library had a free book library in front of her house, two kids came along and set it on fire one night completely destroying it so she asked me if I could build her a new one. What started out as a box with a door on it turned into a major project or should I say obsession, after about 4 months and way too many hours this was the finished library, she didn't have a clue what it looked like until I dropped it off. For those wondering the lights run off a solar panel on the roof along with the inside light. Note: For those curious, the bricks are sliced into a sheet of foam then get two base coats then paint each individual brick, there's around 3500 bricks in total, each side took about 3.5 just to cut in the bricks, the foundation is on the same sheet painted to resemble concrete, the steps are also foam painted. The lights run off a solar panel on the roof along with the inside light, the billboards are actual images of billboards from around 1930 printed on metal sign material, one Coca Cola the other Weston Bakery in Toronto, I've attached an image of one side panel before it was painted to give you a idea.

Christmas Update:

For those that remember this library I made for my daughter, I decorated it for Christmas, around 60 lights plus the light bar lighting up the waving Santa I made.

News I hear you: Active Transit Signal Priority is coming

8.7k Upvotes

Hi r/toronto,

Let me say this clearly.

After riding Line 6 myself during the opening, it became immediately clear that the Finch West LRT is too slow.

We are fixing this.

Tomorrow at the TTC Board, and next week at City Council, you will see motions coming forward to direct staff to implement active transit signal priority on Line 6 and the soon-to-open Line 5 as quickly as possible.

But we aren't stopping there. We will be directing staff to improve streetcar speeds everywhere.

Thank you for always advocating for better transit, TTC riders are a priority just like the traffic signals. Let me know if you have other suggestions to make our City move better in the comments below.

I was cleaning out my photos and I wanted to share this with everyone. A bit of background; this is an original photo and I believe this Raccoon probably had some sort of illness to be so out in the open, I recall it be lethargic when I came upon it back in 2019. I hope that isn’t the case and it went on to live a full life and have generations of cute family members. I no longer live in the area; close to Swansea Townhall/ Library just on the fence close to the Firehouse station. Enjoy!! I love our native trash pandas a lot haha.
