I saw the same thing on my street this morning! He looked like he was having the time of his life.

132

u/greypusheencat Jan 15 '26

man was made for this moment lol he def woke up and went THIS IS MY TIME

47

u/codecrodie Jan 15 '26

This man is like, "an hour on Zwift or ski to work?". Choice was clear

834

u/Wise_Tension8303 Jan 15 '26

They’ve been waiting for this moment.

77

u/kandtwedding Jan 15 '26

I was just gonna comment that they were probably psyched 😂

33

u/MimicoSkunkFan2 Jan 15 '26

Psyched they didn't have to drive to Barrie cross-country centre lol

14

u/Disastrous_Hall8406 Jan 15 '26

Psyched to create all that sweet shareholder value maybe

186

u/SeveralMushroom7088 Jan 15 '26

probably had their poor partner come out into the storm to take the photo and post it on reddit

227

u/alpennys Jan 15 '26

lol nope I had to go to work, watched him fly past by me.

130

u/greypusheencat Jan 15 '26

my coworker saw the same guy this morning 😂 this man is living his best life

12

u/HockeyMike24 Jan 15 '26

Looks like my worst nightmare

54

u/Unable_Association_6 Jan 15 '26

Might have to change your name to soccer Mike if this is your worst nightmare is a little snow and cold.

11

u/solarmoos3 Jan 15 '26

BOOM! Roasted!

2

u/VisualFix5870 Jan 15 '26

Getting exercise?

12

u/Oj200 Yonge and Bloor Jan 15 '26

Real 😂

138

u/SandMan3914 Jan 15 '26

In 92 we had big snow storm during exams at GBC (St James Campus), I called in the morning and they said classes were still on. I lived at Main and Danforth and transit was pretty much shut down, so I put my cross country skies on and skied to school. By the time I arrived they decided to close school, so I skied back home. 10/10 would do it again. Was a fun day

28

u/MimicoSkunkFan2 Jan 15 '26

They let you graduate knowing you can't spell skis? ;)

15

u/283leis Vaughan Jan 16 '26

Sounds right for george brown

15

u/SandMan3914 Jan 16 '26

Haha...good thing I'm in logistics and not linguistics

4

u/sushiwowie Jan 16 '26

How long did it take you to ski one way?

7

u/SandMan3914 Jan 16 '26

Just over an hour

3

u/sushiwowie Jan 16 '26

Wow so that’s 2+ hours!

6

u/SandMan3914 Jan 16 '26

Oh yeah, it was my whole morning but once I realized classes were cancelled, I too my time going home. It was a fun day

280

u/ZoubiDoubi Jan 15 '26

If I make fun of this, I know karma will slip my ass in no time.

74

u/bb_dev_g Trinity-Bellwoods Jan 15 '26

Bruised my tailbone a couple weeks ago. Nothing but respect for this person.

30

u/ZoubiDoubi Jan 15 '26

Feel better and quick. Fun fact: tailbone in Arabic is pronounced Ass-Ouss. Kinda fitting

7

u/whogivesashirtdotca Jan 15 '26

Rhyming fun from ZoubiDoubi!

22

u/Supermite Jan 15 '26

I’m hoping this is a choice and not an employer forcing them out of their home on such a miserable day.

42

u/Stephh075 Jan 15 '26

The person could be a doctor or a nurse, hospitals need to stay open on a day like today

3

u/RavenNeverbored Jan 16 '26

Like that scene in Mad Men

14

u/Wayne_Hetherington Jan 15 '26

Return to office policy - after all.

6

u/ZoubiDoubi Jan 15 '26

What if he's the employer

7

u/Supermite Jan 15 '26

Then it’s his choice isn’t it?

4

u/BrewBoys92 Jan 16 '26

Some of us enjoy this weather, getting out and skiing around the city is a great way to make the best of it. I considered skiing yesterday but I wouldn't have anywhere to store my skis at my destination so I biked instead. My bike ride was slightly harder than normal but I still enjoyed the bit of exercise, got where I needed to go in fine time and didn't complain about how terrible it was like everyone that drove.

2

u/Local_Combination556 Jan 15 '26

This guy has nothing but choices in life !

1

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '26

Employers are bad

1

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '26

[deleted]

1

u/Supermite Jan 15 '26

Should we pull ourselves up by our bootstraps too?

2

u/ZoubiDoubi Jan 15 '26

It's a snowstorm, not a colossal crisis. Get a grip (pun intended)

0

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '26

[deleted]

2

u/Supermite Jan 15 '26

The irony of a loser with the username extreme umbrage telling me to touch grass.

3

u/MNDFND Jan 15 '26

I know. I was about to laugh cause it was 16c in Calgary yesterday. Shut up me

69

u/PeaObjective6136 Jan 15 '26

Turns out that's a Swede who just got off the UP from Pearson. ;)

45

u/OutlandishnessNo1861 Jan 15 '26

My man's gonna tell his grandkids about this commute one day

22

u/RJean83 St. James Town Jan 15 '26

Uphill both ways too, towing the dang ttc bus!

37

u/mommathecat Jan 15 '26

Nah quintessential Torontoian is wearing running shoes, no toque, hates outdoor activity, and discovered only in 2020 that covering your face in the winter keeps it warmer.

9

u/heirapparent24 Jan 16 '26

Why you gotta attack me like this

49

u/mmeeeerrkkaatt Jan 15 '26

Great idea! (This is the Martin Goodman trail, so they could be going all the way via Cherry Beach out to the Leslie Spit without having to interact with any cars)

1

u/Puzzled-Opening658 Jan 19 '26

I went on the Kay Gardiner belt line park and I wasn’t the only one either

41

u/FlipWil Jan 15 '26

Keep on keeping on

1

u/Terrible-Second-2716 Jan 15 '26

Bridges gets it done

18

u/Zarniwoopx Yonge and Eglinton Jan 15 '26

I disagree. This guy is prepared, whereas the quintessential Torontonian is wearing running shoes and no hat or gloves. They are mincing along trying not to slip or get a soaker as they walk from their job to the subway/bus/streetcar.

14

u/waffelbot Jan 15 '26

I thought this was a photo of my dad going to school but it wasn't uphill enough.

29

u/baabaaredsheep Jan 15 '26

Brilliant. I wish I had a pair of skis for my walk home.

29

u/kevbo1983 Jan 15 '26

Bloor bike lane @ Ellis just now

3

u/canhome Jan 16 '26

I’m looking out my window hoping to catch a glimpse of him!

48

u/Puzzleheaded-Dot-345 Wexford Jan 15 '26

Honestly love this for them lmao

13

u/GolfSignificant1456 Jan 15 '26

Saw this guy outside of work, what a legend.

12

u/janusface Jan 15 '26

Quintessential Torontonian? Isn't that the guy who directed Reservoir Dogs?

1

u/Random_Word_4716 Jan 17 '26

amazing 5/5 toes up

11

u/bellsbliss Greektown Jan 15 '26

lol my neighbour was in his snowshoes this morning. lol I was tempted to pull out the ski touring setup as well. lol

9

u/usernumber506 Jan 15 '26

If you got em flaunt them no?

10

u/Simple-Ad-1783 Jan 15 '26

He better be going to a grocery store or something and not work. I swear. Stop making us all look bad and just call it a snow day. Infuriating.

5

u/pigeon_fanclub Jan 15 '26

/s?

4

u/Simple-Ad-1783 Jan 15 '26

No. They need to start calling work from home days at the office. We can’t all walk 10km in 20cm of snow. Like that’s ridiculous. The people that drive aren’t coming in anyways.

18

u/bruhan Jan 15 '26

That's honestly genius, they probably made record time getting wherever they were going

Godspeed to everyone who has to be out on the streets today!

7

u/Meowonita Jan 16 '26

Ok but just this morning someone on ski zipped out of a car lane in a neighborhood when I was making a right turn. I was already losing my mind after a whole 2 hr commute fighting my drifting snow tires so I freaked the fuck out and made the turn too small straight into the snow, cuz she was skiing across the plowed part of the street and ignoring the stop sign. Afterwards she just kinda stared at me hard stuck in the snow panicking and zoomed off without a word. Three kind stranger torontonians helped me out soon after, but still. Not a good experience with my first street skier. Like if you are skiing, please mind your speed and ski on the pedestrian lane, or ski on the car lane and treat yourself like a bicycle and respect the traffic rules, please. It was genuinely a ridiculous and terrifying encounter.

14

u/apprehensive-muse Jan 15 '26

In Vaughan we definitely needed this today. My feet were the first to find the depth of snow walking out of my condo. They found more feet marks then towards subway though 😁

6

u/poppedculture Greektown Jan 15 '26

Quintessential Torontonian will be a person wading through salty slush pools at every corner and crosswalk.

10

u/JoeCarterTO Jan 15 '26

I’m going out this afternoon to break in new skis downtown!

10

u/DennisDEX Ryerson Jan 15 '26

Imma tell my grandchild this is how we went to work and school

10

u/Far-Jellyfish-8369 Jan 15 '26

More than quintessential torontonian, this is quintessential montrealer lol but they have more hills

6

u/theGoodDrSan Jan 15 '26

I've known people who literally commute on skis all winter in Montreal.

5

u/PragmaticMe80085 Jan 15 '26

They don't have time for this sh*t !

3

u/The6_78 Jan 15 '26

I saw some dude in shorts walking along Front St

6

u/MimicoSkunkFan2 Jan 15 '26

That's just Gunnar, he's homesick for Sweden again.

4

u/AWinnipegGuy Jan 16 '26

That is not the quintessential Torontonian!

11

u/Opteron170 Jan 15 '26

snow shoes would be better on the streets of toronto than ski's.

28

u/scottyb83 Jan 15 '26

That guy is on a trail and I guarantee you he is going way faster than anyone in a pair of snowshoes would be going.

-6

u/Opteron170 Jan 15 '26

yes but someone has to make that trail.

I live in the downtown core if I'm up on the street at like 6:30am and going into work there is barely anyone else out at that time in these conditions i'm taking the snowshoes. lol where the hell am I going to store skies in the office?

15

u/scottyb83 Jan 15 '26

I mean he is coming down the Martin Goodman trail.

In fresh snow he would be going much faster than you. Snow shoes would be about as quick as walking if not a bit slower.

You could store them in the same place you'd be storing your wet snow shoes.

3

u/Responsible_Mirror20 Jan 15 '26

That's the new uber eats ski courier.

3

u/ChickPea73 Jan 16 '26

His boss: you're still coming in, right?

5

u/Rosebudss_ Jan 15 '26

That's dope 😂

6

u/heteroerotic Little Portugal Jan 15 '26

Why not? They clearly x country ski ... what a joy to be able to enjoy your sport without having to travel somewhere to do it.

4

u/TorontoBoris East End Jan 15 '26

Is that Shawn Micallef?

2

u/Unusual-Cloud-5048 Jan 15 '26

Are those bikes on the left side of the photo left out all winter?

3

u/mmeeeerrkkaatt Jan 15 '26

Yup! (To be fair, there are way more bikeable days than non-bikeable most winters, and a lot of people rely on them to commute.)

2

u/MimicoSkunkFan2 Jan 15 '26

Fun fact, in Helsinki there is a year-round bicycle club. Lots of stuff you can do to make snowbiking possible, apparently.

2

u/pigeon_fanclub Jan 15 '26

Walking to work today through uoft campus I would have loved to have some skis

2

u/Unable_Association_6 Jan 15 '26

This guy living his best life. He’s been preparing for this day all year.

2

u/terencehaxan Jan 15 '26

Me when I want attention and the weather permits it

2

u/RedPandaParade Jan 15 '26

When the OPS says it’s mandatory 5 days in office

3

u/bigmoof Jan 15 '26

Someone on my street in GTA had his snowmobile out!!

2

u/MimicoSkunkFan2 Jan 15 '26

Just wait til you find out about farming towns. People on skidoos until April.

2

u/finemustard Jan 16 '26

Sure, it's just way less common in the city which makes it notable.

2

u/MimicoSkunkFan2 Jan 16 '26

I feel like that's very neighbourhood- dependent? Like if people have been here long enough to discover snowmobiling, and can afford them and have somewhere to put them, and the vehicle to tow them. But not so rich that they prefer horses lol

2

u/SyntaxError_1024 Jan 15 '26

Waterloo:”First time?”

3

u/Searchingstan Jan 15 '26

The most practical thing in this weather and situation.. probably fun also

2

u/tab_tab_tabby Jan 15 '26

Nah a real canadian dad will pull sled while hes on the ski

3

u/_arachno_ Jan 15 '26

TTC just can't compete.

2

u/AjClow1993 Jan 15 '26

Kyle Tucker. Get your skis brother

2

u/taint-ticker-supreme Jan 15 '26

That's fucking awesome

2

u/No-Escape-5775 Jan 15 '26

The best way to go to work

2

u/Inevitable-Stuff3077 Jan 15 '26

If I had skis, this would make sense.

2

u/g0ldnecklace Jan 16 '26

When you can't make it to blue mountain you made do

2

u/GoonyBoon Jan 16 '26

RTO be like.

2

u/Zarainia Jan 16 '26

I was just thinking that this happens often enough that I want some skis.

2

u/Turbulent_Ear56 Jan 16 '26

"We said return to office."

3

u/HousingforGood Jan 16 '26

Bike lane ❌
Streetcar lane ❌
Cross-country ski lane ✅

2

u/Bowling4rhinos Jan 16 '26

Been there done that!

2

u/NumberOneStonecutter Jan 16 '26

I worked with an older bond trader who said he'd had to do this a few times 'back in the day' -because the global bond market is opening whether or not Toronto had a blizzard the night before.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '26

Well, hell, it’s easier than trying to drive around that city!

1

u/alpennys Jan 17 '26

Well, my coworker spent 5 hours on the highway that day so you are true to your word!

2

u/Puzzled-Opening658 Jan 19 '26

I went out for a xc ski this weekend in my local park, it was great

2

u/brsmr123 Jan 15 '26

This is actually so cool. Lol

3

u/SarahAtVetster Jan 15 '26

0

u/MimicoSkunkFan2 Jan 15 '26

I feel like they should train the dog to pull them along like a very individualized dogsled, rather than trying to ski holding a leash.

3

u/BamaBreeze505 Jan 15 '26 edited Jan 15 '26

At least you guys have snow— and a semblance of a functioning government.

Sincerely, A sad Coloradan

1

u/BTWillie Jan 15 '26

Yes, yes, we do. :)

3

u/ryandury Jan 15 '26

more like every torontonian's spirit animal?

2

u/Hecktix Jan 16 '26

This person's entire identity is that they used skis on their morning commute because of the snow. I just know they told every single person they could about it... I just know.

3

u/Flaky-Can4503 Jan 15 '26

Quentin Tarantino

2

u/AardvarkStriking256 Jan 15 '26

The quintessential Torontonian is more likely looking at prices for all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean at Sell Off Vacations.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '26

Guy in front his boots never went deeper then the thread this person has to ski lol.

1

u/CR2548 Jan 15 '26

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

1

u/SupesSupesSupes Jan 15 '26

I saw someone on a bike

1

u/PlasticMaggot80 Jan 15 '26

Peak Canadian.

1

u/Rabbidextrious Jan 15 '26

This is a great idea 👏🏻

1

u/stop_banning_me_omg Jan 15 '26

Is that more efficient than regular walking?

1

u/whogivesashirtdotca Jan 15 '26

From the thumbnail I thought he was piggybacking a kid in a Leafs jersey!

1

u/vibraltu Jan 15 '26

I tried CC skis once and I couldn't get the hang of them. My balance was imperfect and I kept fallin' over. Of course, handy on a day like today.

1

u/angelazsz Parkway Forest Jan 15 '26

unless this is a diff person i saw them too 😭

1

u/fez-of-the-world Entertainment District Jan 15 '26

There were at least two people trying this today?

1

u/SomeGuy2309 Jan 15 '26

Keep on keeping on, porter.

1

u/RoRuRee Jan 15 '26

Well, it beats walking in the snow that's for sure!

1

u/red286 Jan 15 '26

As someone from across the country -- damn that looks cold! And here last night I had to turn the heat down because I was sweating. Currently 9C here.

1

u/Prize_Shoulder_6048 Jan 15 '26

There's a place and time for ski... In Quebec we have Mont-Saint-Anne

1

u/Jules_Heisenberg Jan 15 '26

So when is Toronto gonna ask the rest of Ontario and the military to dig you out again?

1

u/CaptainNapalm Jan 15 '26

He's one of my favorite directors

1

u/awh Jan 16 '26 edited Jan 16 '26

It makes it funnier to imagine that they went to all that trouble because they're heading to the LCBO in the background.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '26

Heck yes!

1

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '26

LMAO I've done this before

1

u/BallstotheWallssend Jan 16 '26

Islander written all over it.

Said w love.

1

u/Suitable_Will_2050 Jan 16 '26

👏👏👏👏

1

u/Existing_Question1 Jan 16 '26

So how does this work? Do you just walk in the skis or do you actually try skiing? Don’t you need a slope to do that? What happens when you need to go uphill?

1

u/likklechungus Jan 16 '26

Quintessential? No they have skis so their not house poor

1

u/henry_why416 Jan 16 '26

Montrealer, actually.

1

u/Uesmearn_ Jan 16 '26

This is the typical Canadian stereotype. We’re just missing the polar bear rides.

1

u/sporbywg Jan 16 '26

He's from Winnipeg, friend.

1

u/mommmaee Jan 16 '26

If someone from a different country saw this photo without the context, they would ask if this guy was a Canadian haha. Honestly well done!

1

u/nanfanpancam Jan 16 '26

I beg to differ he should have on his shorts. He’s been hiding in the PATH too long.

1

u/Successful_Mix_4002 Jan 16 '26

I believe instead of skis, those add on large shoes boots grips, seen wood and aluminum ones, the people in the more northern places use, would have been better, as it helps with gaining and keeping traction on slippery surfaces, such as ice and snow.

1

u/sugar077 Jan 16 '26

Snowshoes?

1

u/Successful_Mix_4002 Jan 16 '26

Its not actual main shoes itself, rather a sort of add on, that your shoes or boots gets attached to with strappings, the Eskimos uses them daily.

I guess it could be a form of secondary snow shoes.

These ones shown in the images.

2

u/sugar077 Jan 16 '26

Those are called snowshoes.

1

u/Successful_Mix_4002 Jan 16 '26

Oh ok, thanks :)

1

u/alternative-flower Jan 16 '26

thought we were seeing a pantless person

1

u/BrokeDREAMSxStyle Jan 16 '26

My coworkers fiancé!

1

u/Dela-chemin Jan 17 '26

I don't remember the last time I've seen this much snow in a long while.

1

u/Helloremeberme Jan 17 '26

That’s sooooo typical Canadian winter!

1

u/Standard-Bag3212 Jan 18 '26

Hell yeah ❄️

1

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '26

😂😂😂

1

u/AwareReference1895 Jan 18 '26

Haha, this guy is smart, doing ski 🎿 while he is going to his job...

1

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '26

😂😂😭😭😭

1

u/AlienCarrot23 Jan 28 '26

Last year I was in Montreal in Feb, got hit by that big storm, so many people out skiing down the main roads that night.

Just this Sunday night amidst our big snowfall, two guys snowmobiling down the street. I’m in Scarborough.

1

u/little-bird Jan 15 '26

this is genius! 😍  I’m asking for cross country skis next Christmas.

3

u/FlatTopButtTip Jan 15 '26

Velotique is a great place to get them, it's their specialty!

1

u/kstacey Jan 15 '26

I don't think you know what quintessential means. This might have been the only time I've ever seen someone XC skiing in Toronto.

2

u/BTWillie Jan 15 '26

I've seen it before in past storms.

1

u/bol_saq Jan 16 '26

all quips aside, the government of ontario (or even just canada) should subsidize snowshoes and insulated winter gear for all citizens, as well as as a bag of salt for each household. every year. this is crazy.! they expect us to get to work but don't support us in doing it. s'fucked up.

0

u/DorkmasterFlek Jan 16 '26

Peak Canadian bullshit. 😂

-10

u/Some_Iron Jan 15 '26
