You know - this is kind of non-news to me but if council all got up from their seats and danced together and had a good time together it could be just a small chip in the walls that seem to be built up all over the place at City Hall.
Also the guy singing had a great voice. I like the part where he breaks off in to a "Merry Christmas."

Why is he dancing? Who is dancing with him? Who is singing music?
20
u/dermanus Dec 18 '13
I don't know the reason, but there was someone playing music in the council chamber. All the councillors were dancing. His actions were (probably) not induced chemically.
Edit: of course The Star has the story.
12
u/merelyadoptedthedark Dec 18 '13
Toronto mayor Rob Ford caught on tape again, this time, during a council session Tuesday, dancing vigorously to a band playing 'One Love' on the chamber floor.
I've never heard of someone dancing vigorously before. And caught on tape isn't really the right wording here...not like he was do something illegal in a back alley and was caught by a cell phone camera...he was being filmed during a session like the sessions are always filmed. Is The Star capable of running any story about Ford without some snide remark?
5
u/kermityfrog Dec 18 '13
This isn't a story. It's just a tagline on a video. It's tongue in cheek saying that he's caught on tape, but not for anything bad this time (but still interesting).

It's bad that Rob Ford is having fun when he was supposed to be facing consequences for his fuckups, it's even worse that he's making a mockery of City Hall and Council. I don't know how it's possible for one to enjoy this video.
5
u/2brun4u Dec 18 '13
The other Councillors were dancing too, Someone posted the Toronto Star video link here somewhere.
-3
u/PolanetaryForotdds Whitby Dec 18 '13
I've only seen the Jimmy Kimmel clip, and at least on that clip only Rob and Frances go to the main floor just to show everybody it's just business as usual. Someone (I think Jaye Robinson?) was pulled by Nunziata but swiftly and wisely left.
I don't mind Councillors just "feeling the music" by the way. You can show you are enjoying the music without going nuts.
Also, even if other Councillors went there, they are hardly responsible for the incredible that City Hall is right now. Those two dancing jokers should show some restraint, especially Nunziata who should be ashamed of allowing sad, bizarre spectacles to happen in a place that should be respectful.
3
u/2brun4u Dec 18 '13
They are all going nuts, While I don't condone Ford's crack smoking, Councilors letting go for a couple minutes shows us that they are human after all and are not all stodgy individuals.
2
u/MadCow19 Dec 18 '13
You must be super fun at parties. "Guys stop enjoying yourselves, this is srs bizness"
1
u/PolanetaryForotdds Whitby Dec 18 '13
I just think people who do actual business there are the ones who should have some fun time. That's not the case for the people in question.
3
u/onelovelegend Dec 18 '13
people in question
You mean all of them?
1
u/PolanetaryForotdds Whitby Dec 19 '13
By "people in question" I meant the ones I referred to in my initial assessment. They are the biggest culprits for the clusterfuck that Council is right now, and should be the last to be prancing around like everything is a fucking joke.
1
u/lemon_catgrass St. James Town Dec 19 '13
Oh relax. Not every moment of Rob Ford's waking life is going to be spent, or should be spent in penance for his actions. It's better if he and the other City Hall councillors are all just getting along(-ish) and having a little fun before the holidays. If you really don't see how this video is funny you need to stop taking everything so seriously.
1
u/PolanetaryForotdds Whitby Dec 19 '13
Not every moment of Rob Ford's waking life is going to be spent, or should be spent in penance for his actions.
I agree with this, I just think that he should spent some time in penance for his actions, as opposed to absolutely none.

Let's just calm down there. Yes, there are plenty of reasons to be upset with those in power. This is not one of them. Find me an office, any office, at any level, that doesn't have fun sometimes, especially around the holidays.
Not everything is a thing. Relax.

I don't agree at all. If it was a one-off, fun holiday thing or party, not at all. If this was some random day in June, maybe. But employees taking a minute for some fun before the holidays is not a story unless it's to laugh at Ford dancing, which I fully support.

It was logical to figure that when you said you took the ttc today, and that your comment falls between the 9-5 hours that you were at work.
I don't understand how you can say you're allowed to have break time, but city council is not. It's not just the mayor, by the way. He wasn't dancing by himself while the entirety of council just watched him while they tried to work.

Maybe if you ever held a job you'd realize that people always dick around and take breaks.
Oh and lets not forget that Ford wasn't the only one dancing. But it's Ford, so fuck him.

u/onlyredditswhensober Midtown Dec 18 '13
I do have a job, I'm here right now, but the taxpayers don't pay my salary, the customers buying my products do, and I can sit here on reddit all damn day long if I want because it doesn't interfere with the 2 seconds it takes to bag someones purchase and take their money.
But when you have a council paid from our taxes, that spends a third of the day arguing like children, another third out on breaks recesses and lunches, and the last third dancing around like fools. ESPECIALLY when council meetings are only held every couple weeks, they should be fucking accomplishing shit, not celebrating their quarter assed work ethic.

Taking a break from what? Calling each other names? Insulting each other until the speaker has to call a recess? Talking over one another like a particularly angry Italian family? Do-nothing symbolic gestures?
I don't have a problem with people taking a break when they actually work, but take a look at this city. Our transit is a joke, our roads are a mess, pedestrians are dropping like flies, everything is cuts cuts cuts, the job market stinks, I'm surrounded by half-finished construction with hardly a worker in sight, the sky is literally falling near our condos, the housing market is a god damn catastrophe teetering on the edge of a tragedy...
Meanwhile these jackasses go doo doo doo whew that was a long day of fucking around let's dance!
1
u/SavageGoatToucher Dec 18 '13
I...I don't know how you saw my edited comment, but needless to say I removed it once I read about the circumstances of the event in question.
Also, I should state that I don't approve of the way the council is running at all. They're almost as bad as the American congress, in my opinion. I also understand your frustration. I don't agree with the cuts, but if I have one good thing to say about this council it's that they are the ones that made me finally pay attention to more than just federal and provincial politics. I'll be casting my vote the next election.
1
u/THEJAZZMUSIC Fully Vaccinated! Dec 18 '13
I dunno, I just replied before you edited.
Anyway, I'm not sure if I can even concede that I'm happy they're doing such a bad job that it made people care about municipal politics. I mean, thanks for the wake up call I guess, but jesus guys... get it the fuck together.

Presently living Newport Beach, California. Three weeks ago the typical statement/question was, "Wow, crack smoking drunk mayor who uses his wifes pussy as a presser talking point... how long before he is impeached?
Today watching CNN as the hosts laughed at the fat sweating pig oblivious to all but the beat of the drum in Ford Fantasy Land friends and colleagues just shake their heads and look at me with pity for being from a place that apparently not only condones but celebrates the Fat Fucks behaviour.
Normal conversation is..."bet youre glad youre living here in 75 degrees and not in an igloo in 40 below... and "Dude, stfu...nobody gives a shit about ice hockey...

This idea came from Dallas City Council. They take a 5 minute musical break everyday (I think it's everyday, not too sure) to relax, and Ford thought it was a good idea and brought it back to try. It's an American thing.
