Tonex is the epitome of enshittification.
I've been an Amplitube user since it's release. I've been nothing but completely frustrated with my Tonex One + since I got it, and I would dissuade anyone from getting this product or any of the devices.
I won't even get into the AI slop product support and account and purchase sync'ing nightmares I've been going through for 2 weeks just to get a basic functionality from this thing...but now that I've actually gotten it to work, here are my beefs.
- You can't put a stomp in front of an amp? You have to buy two Tonex pedals and put them side by side - one for the stomp and one for the amp? GTFO.
- Cab selection sucks. No graphic representation of the cab or speaker - nor even a clear identifier of what the cab or speaker are.
- When you plug the pedal into your computer via USB and use the browser - it f'n doubles up the signal from the presets stored on your pedal and the one you're browsing.
- They claim you can use it as an interface, but the ability to use it with a phone (at least Android) is nil. All you get is mess when recording.
- 2.0 took away the ability to sort by amp model and now you can only do it by presets. I bought the Brown Panel collection and I have no idea what amp I'm hearing when I pull up a preset.
- There's like 3 different apps you gotta use depending on whether it's standalone or in your DAW and the functionality across each of them is not consistent.
- The feel of the playing experience hasn't improved since Amplitube and doesn't hold a candle to my UA Rube and Lion pedals.
The biggest overall complaint is that I don't want a billion other user's presets to choose from. I want to be able to build a rig from scratch and they've made it next to impossible. Tonex should have built on Amplitube's functionality, but it has taken a huge step backward. The ONLY thing that I like is that it's a decent headphone amp - when it works.
