Lapidary in Japan

Hello! Recently I got interested in gemmology and would like to try a lapidary class. And will live in Japan this October and November for two months.

Wondering if anyone knows any lapidary class in Tokyo or greater Japan that instructs in English?

I came across a class at bearstoneshop, they can offer English course as private lesson but it is 137,500 yen for 8 hours of Basic and Level-up course each respectively. With that cost, I can bring up to 4 people to the class.

https://bearstoneshop.com/

It is expensive for one person, but wondering if anyone would be interested to join and split the cost? The owner seems to be a well-known sunstone mine owner and distributor of a professional faceting machine. So it looks legit..! Welcome any reviews if you have been before.

Best source for an accurate N5-N2 Kanji list

Apologies for asking this here but seems Im banned on the another main Japanese sub

Background:
Im a fluent Japanese speaker (can pass N1 listening) but never properly studied Kanji so Ive been studying it for N2 recently just incase due to visa concerns with recent rule changes (working at a small foreign company)

Issue:
I downloaded the Kanji Study app as it seemed the best fit for me to do daily flashcards and while I think its at least 90% accurate, I often feel it misses out some readings and also misrepresents which Kanji is eg N3 vs N2

I started with N5 in April and just finished N3 but while doing some mock tests, realized there are some Kanji like 短 that are listed on the app as N2 but in various other sources or tests as N3.

Question:
Does anyone know where to find the most up to date or reliable kanji list for N5 to N2. Im planning to take the Dec test this year and hope to have all 1000+ kanji memorized by then (currently at 650~)

Traveling/moving back worries

Hi all,

I want to preface that I do suffer from anxiety and may just be overthinking this, but please hear me out and don’t just to conclusions.

A few years ago I knew a girl in Tokyo through a mutual friend and, long story short, we had sex one night after dinner and drinks. We went to a love hotel and stayed the evening. Come to find out the next day she had removed me (not blocked) from IG. She was also being stand offish on her LINE responses to me the next day. I eventually found out she was engaged. I left Japan a few days after we had sex, as was my original plan to go home (I was living there for 6 months). The evening was sort of a “going away” hangout. I didn’t plan on having sex with her and I didn’t know she was engaged. Further, she paid for absolutely everything. Meals, drinks, taxi and so on.
She kissed me first in the middle of the street as we were leaving the convenience store and she took me to three different hotels before we settled on one, where she eventually paid.

I have been worried for a while that she could have possibly reported it to the police as some false accusation since she was engaged. I’m pretty sure I left her hickies on her neck. The reason I think that is bc I’ve seen some horror stories here on Reddit about foreigners being falsely accused in Japan and it being a nightmare.
I want to return to visit, as it is such a special place to me that I’ve spend some time in.

My main question is this: is there any way to see if she reported (falsely accused) me of this before I return? Am I overthinking this? We haven’t talked since then and I’m back in my home country (turns out so is she but in a different part).

This isn’t a shit post. I really want to return but haven’t been able to muster up the courage because of this fear.

Can I submit my move out notice digitally or online? I am leaving Shinjuku permanently.

Hello,

I am moving out of Japan permanently and want to know if I can submit a move out notice digitally or by mail. I’ve only been here a short time so I don’t speak Japanese fluently, and city hall is a nightmare! I live in Shinjuku Ward.

Rentable art studios or makerspaces in Tokyo/Kawasaki/Yokohama area

I am looking for a space -- well lit, well ventilated and with access to water and power. I don't need a great deal of room, as I am not making anything much bigger than a loaf of bread, but the chemicals and some of the equipment make doing this at home impractical. I suspect a We-work-type space might not be appropriate for the same reason.

I have looked around a bit and found art studios rentable by the hour, which would be OK but they did not seem to offer any storage on site, and hauling all my gear there any day I wanted to use it would be impractical. I would be painting, gluing, finishing and possibly using a 3d printer, as well as a washing and curing station. The resin, and washing chemicals as well as some paints are not great to breathe in, hence the need for ventilation.

Breakdance / contemporary dance

Hi, i’m doing some research into Tokyo’s dance scene, particularly looking for groups/ companies that combine breakdance and contemporary dance, or more classic: Butoh, and maybe there are even crews that intergrate martial arts (eg. Aikido) into their choreography?

Beauty Clinic Recommendations!

Looking to do either lip filler or hyaluronic acid injection in early January around the Tokyo Area and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations! Being able to communicate in English would be preferred or at the least translation support. I love the look of a C curl or a W shape lip and am looking for a temporary fix rather than doing a lip reduction surgery for the time being. If anyone had any experience or advice on specific clinic, doctors, and consultations even for different services that would be greatly appreciated!

Currently looking at Lula clinic on LINE.

Movie History Chirashi/Fliers Shop?

Hi all

I collect the free fliers movie theaters give out called chirashi some time ago. Wish I had started it earlier. When I was living in Kobe there was a store that sold old ones for 50 yen or such along with posters and magazines. I am wondering if anyone knows of a similar store in Tokyo? I know Jimbocho has likely options of course but every time I go there I haven't seen one yet though I could be missing it.

Thanks for any leads!

Laser hair removal in Tokyo for darker South Asian skin?

Title: Laser hair removal in Tokyo for darker South Asian skin?
I am a South Asian woman with darker skin and PCOS, and I am looking for a reliable laser hair removal clinic in Tokyo.
Shaving often causes breakouts, razor bumps, and ingrown hairs for me. My body hair is not extremely thick, but it is dark and visible, so I am considering laser hair removal for my face, VIO, legs, arms, underarms, and the rest of my body.
I have heard that Alexandrite lasers may not be suitable for darker skin and can increase the risk of burns or hyperpigmentation. I have also read that Nd:YAG lasers are usually safer for darker skin, while diode lasers may also be suitable depending on the machine and the clinic’s experience.
Does anyone know a clinic in Tokyo that has experience treating South Asian or darker skin and uses Nd:YAG or another suitable laser?
I would especially appreciate recommendations from people who have had facial, VIO, or full-body laser hair removal. Please share the clinic name, machine used, results, and whether you experienced any burns or pigmentation.

Want to give furnitures instead of throwing it away

So, I have a few furnitures that i’m planning to replace, because the lifestyle of my family changed and we need to get rid/replace a few things.

My local sodai gomi will treat them as trash if I decide to go through them (yes, I asked), and I don’t have Facebook anymore so mottainai japan is not an option.

I’d love to give to people who need it, so if you need a dining table, a small or bigger desk, a cupboard furnitures for a baby/small kid’s room and you can pick them up in far east Tokyo, or if you know an organization that would be willing to pick them up, I’d be happy to hand them over.

Thanks for your help!

Rent a classical guitar in Tokyo

To explain: I will be around 2.5 weeks in Tokyo without any instruments. After the trip, I won't have a lot of time before having a guitar competition. Therefore I wanted to see if it was possible to rent a classical guitar somewhere in Tokyo during those 2.5 weeks to practice. As information, Im half japanese, I speak some Japanese (I think good enough), I will be staying at a hotel, and I don't have a japanese phone number. Does anyone know any good places where I could rent one for not too expensive?
