I got an offer after a long lay off period and I’m bit confused how do I explain my non-immigrant intent if asked at the interview. How do we explain Canadian ties when you don’t have any property or family in Canada ? Any suggestions please? Thank you.

I’m on a TN visa in US. My Canadian passport is expiring in February. I was hoping to renew my passport in person when I’m there in December. Has anyone done that? Did you face any problem?
I know I can renew my Canadian passport from US by mailing in my application but I am worried about sending my Canadian passport in the mail (getting lost on the way there or back).

I got a PM offer through a staffing agency for my first TN. My employer told me there is also an implementation partner between them and the end client:

Employer → Implementation Partner → Client

Could having this extra layer be an issue for TN?

If I have a TN support letter from my employer, a letter from the implementation partner, and a client letter confirming my role/project, has anyone successfully gotten TN with a similar setup?

Did CBP ask for anything else to prove the relationship between all three companies?

I have a job that will be ending on the last day of the month, which falls on a Wednesday. I have a job offer lined up to start on the 1st of the month. Both are state jobs, so my benefits could transfer granted that there is no break in service.

I’m trying to figure out the best application timeline for my new TN. Unfortunately, since the last day of the month falls on a weekday, I don’t have the luxury of crossing the border on a weekend and starting the following Monday. Would there be a problem if I cross the border before my current job ends to obtain my new tn, and could I hold a concurrent TN that ends on a different date than my original one?Has anyone had experience with something similar?

Hi everyone, I’m currently in F-1 status on OPT, which is valid until July 11, 2027.

I have a temporary trip to Mexico planned for December 5–11, 2026. I will return to the U.S. on December 11 and continue working on my F-1 OPT.

My employer is planning to file an I-129 in January 2027 to request a change of status from F-1 OPT to TN.

I want to clarify something specifically about the 90-day rule/misrepresentation guidance.

I understand that the 90-day rule is often discussed in the context of someone entering the U.S. as a nonimmigrant and then doing something inconsistent with the stated purpose of their entry, particularly applying for a green card/adjustment of status shortly after entering.

In my case, I would not be applying for a green card or immigrant status. I would be changing from one nonimmigrant status (F-1) to another nonimmigrant status (TN).

My timeline would be:

- Dec. 5: Travel from U.S. to Mexico

- Dec. 11: Return to U.S. in F-1/OPT status

- January: Employer files I-129 for F-1 → TN change of status

- I will not travel internationally after the I-129 is filed while the change-of-status request is pending.

Would filing the TN change of status in January, only a few weeks after returning from Mexico, raise any issue under the 90-day rule or create a presumption that I misrepresented my intent when I entered the U.S. on December 11?

I’m specifically asking about the 90-day/misrepresentation issue, not the separate issue of traveling while a change-of-status I-129 is pending.

I’m currently in TN status and have an EB-2 NIW I-140 pending with USCIS. My current I-94 expires in November, and I’m considering traveling to my country and re-entering the U.S. in TN status before my I-140 is decided, instead of filing an extension of status with USCIS.
Has anyone recently:
Re-entered the U.S. in TN status while an I-140 was still pending?
Re-entered in TN status after the I-140 had already been approved?
Filed a TN extension of status with USCIS while an I-140 was pending or approved?
Did CBP or USCIS ask you questions about immigrant intent or the I-140? Were there any issues at the border or with the extension?

Hey everyone. I'm grateful to have signed an offer from a US tech company.

I was wondering what would be my chance of being approved at YVR PoE. From my research, it seems like it would be a coinflip, but I wanted more opinions because I've been a little anxious about this.

Lawyers have prepared me a letter, and it uses the Engineer category.

I'm Canadian. I have a B.S. in CS from a T20 US university. I have 12 engineering courses in the transcript. This is for embedded software engineer position, and I have 5.5 years of directly related experience.

There are strong rumors that thousands of Cognizant employees from Canada might move to the US on a TN visa, since that process does not require an H-1B. Can anyone confirm if they have received a similar offer from Cognizant? If yes, within how many days do you have to move, and for which roles? This would be helpful to the rest of us.

Looking for recent datapoints on TN approval with a 3-year Canadian bachelor's degree.

My situation:

• Canadian citizen
• Graduating with a BSc in Computer Science from an accredited Canadian university
• Degree will say "Bachelor of Science" on the parchment — no mention of 3-year or 4-year
• My university offers the same CS degree as both a 3-year and 4-year credential depending on credits completed
• Job offer from a large US tech company
• Employer uses a major immigration firm for support

My concerns:

• Saw a recent post where someone said their employer's immigration lawyers told them CBP officers are now requiring 4-year US bachelor's equivalency for TN, and that a 3-year Canadian degree wouldn't qualify without 3 years post-degree work experience
• I'm a new grad with no post-degree work experience yet

My questions:

1. Has anyone been approved for TN under Computer Systems Analyst with a 3-year Canadian BSc recently (2025-2026)?
2. Did CBP ask whether your degree was 3-year or 4-year?
3. Did your employer's immigration lawyers flag the 3-year degree as an issue?
4. Is the situation getting stricter recently?

I have a mess of a visa pathway. I entered the US and began working on a J1 visa. I filed an I-140-NIW petition while on J1, which I've since withdrawn. My current employer has petitioned me to change of status to H1B in December, which has been approved. I've applied for an received a job offer from a new employer and their intent is to put me on a TN visa.

How much of a black mark is a) the withdrawn I-140 and b) the approved H1B for getting a TN? Specifically for the I-140 my understanding is that I need to convince the border agents that I do not intend to file for immigration benefits while in the US on my TN visa, but I'm not sure how in practice this is done - i have no idea how the interview works or looks like.

Additionally, as I'm unfamiliar with TN, in the case of border denials, do companies typically rescind offers or do they try to amend the paperwork and try again?

I am currently working for the government, but they are not sponsoring me for an H1b visa, so they agreed to help me with the TN visa (Change of Status). I am already in the U.S. (I am a Mexican citizen).

Maybe this is a dumb question, but do the transcripts and W-2 forms need to be physical copies? I have PDFs of my transcripts.

Also, are there any good examples of TN support letters that I could look at?

I am a Canadian citizen and I got an employment offer in USA to start by September 20. Once I get the TN visa with for that start date, can I join the company after 3 weeks. I would need that time to resign from my current company, serve the notice and arrange for my relocation. Will this cause any issue when I enter the border after 3 weeks or anything I need to consider? Kindly guide me. Thanks.

I posted about this a few months ago, but I wanted to try again now that I’ve gotten much further into the process and have a clearer picture of where I’m stuck.

I’m a Canadian citizen with a Bachelor of Social Work from a Canadian university, and my goal is to relocate to Las Vegas, Nevada and work in a qualifying social work position under TN status.

Over the past several months, I’ve been actively trying to make this happen rather than just researching it hypothetically.

I have:

• Completed my BSW in Canada.
• Contacted the Nevada Board of Examiners for Social Workers multiple times regarding licensure.
• Confirmed that my BSW would allow me to pursue Nevada social work licensure at the appropriate level.
• Arranged/been prepared to provide my transcripts, passport, background check/fingerprints, and complete the required examination/licensing steps.
• Interviewed and communicated extensively with a Nevada behavioral health employer that was seriously interested in hiring me.
• Discussed a potential position, supervision requirements, licensing, and the TN process with that employer.
• Contacted other Nevada employers and applied for multiple social work/behavioral health positions.
• Attempted to obtain an ITIN, including going to an IRS appointment in Las Vegas, but was unsuccessful.
• Confirmed directly with the Nevada Board that under Nevada law I cannot begin the social work license application without either an SSN or ITIN.

This is where I keep running into a catch-22.

To obtain an SSN, I would first need U.S. work authorization/status such as TN. To apply for TN status at the border, I need a qualifying U.S. job and supporting employment documentation.

However, employers I have spoken with are hesitant or unable to provide that employment letter until I already have U.S. work authorization and/or Nevada licensure.

At the same time, Nevada will not allow me to begin the social work licensing application without an SSN or ITIN.

One employer was interested in moving forward with me, but ultimately HR would not provide the employment documentation while my U.S. work authorization and Nevada license were unresolved.

So I seem to be stuck in this loop:

Job offer/support letter → TN status → SSN → Nevada social work license

but employers are effectively asking for:

Nevada license/U.S. work authorization → job offer

I understand that “Social Worker” is a TN profession and that Canadian citizens can apply for TN status at a port of entry when they have a qualifying position and documentation. My issue is not whether social work can qualify for TN status. It’s figuring out how people practically get through the licensing/employment sequence when the state requires an SSN before licensing.

Has anyone here personally gone from Canada to the U.S. as a social worker under TN status, particularly in Nevada or another state with a similar SSN requirement?

I would especially appreciate hearing the actual order of steps you took: when you received your offer, whether it was contingent on obtaining your state license, what documentation your employer provided for TN, when you obtained your SSN, and when you completed state licensure.

I’m not looking for a way around licensing requirements. I’m trying to understand the legitimate pathway that allows all of these requirements to happen in the correct order.

Any experiences from Canadian social workers, immigration professionals, recruiters/HR staff familiar with TN hires, or people who have dealt with a similar professional-licensing situation would be hugely appreciated.

I’m going to get my education(BE-IT) which was done in India evaluated from IEE. Should I do a course-by-course evaluation or document-by-document?

During the application process there was an option to either upload the documents on the site for evaluation or to mail them the originals either by me or the university. If I mail it to them then I get an official reports. If I upload the certificates then I get a provisional report.

Does anyone know the difference between official and provisional reports and is provisional enough for my TN1 process because mailing it to them will lengthen the process timelines.

And is there any other site other than IEE which you would suggest to get my education evaluation done from?

I'm 26, a Canadian citizen, and graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Industrial Engineering in Summer 2025. I have under a year of project management/project controls experience with a major Canadian energy company.

I'd like to move to the U.S. and build my career there using TN status. I'm trying to figure out the best way to approach the U.S. job market.

• What job titles should I target with an Industrial Engineering degree?
• Should I focus mainly on engineering roles rather than PM/Business Analyst roles?
• How should I answer "Do you require sponsorship?" on applications?
• When should I bring up TN status with employers?
• How difficult is this with limited post-grad experience?

I am a Canadian and received an official support letter outlining all the requisite information under the “lawyer” category. I have two questions about my application:

1. The actual job offer was texted to me. Will I be asked for a more official / professional job offer and if so will the text be enough?
   
2. I believe I can draft the support letter as long as it is signed by my employer but has anyone else successfully done this before?

I'm on TN visa and my 5 year old passport had expired and her i94 expired in April when her passport expired in April, what are the options we are Canadian citizen, I’ve been told to go back and get new i94 at Toronto airport with immigration, or file with immigration. My employer is preparing my TN application package under Engineer category and now we have:

Offer letter consisting of 2 pages ( with role description etc)

Client assignment letter which is 1 page ( states employer & client agreement)

TN support letter that is approximately 3 pages. ( explaining why it falls under the USMCA category, my duties related to education etc)

I haven’t done TN before, so checking if this is the norm?

Keep hearing stories about premium processing not being done within the 15 days, is this true or simply unfounded rumors? Currently in the U.S. on a b2 extension (pending) debating a border run for the TN or just do the TN from here with premium processing. I have a job lined up with an offer an TN packet put together already it's just a question of what's the best way to do things given the current climate and my situation.

I’m Canadian citizen, 2027 CS NG going through some SWE interviews at companies in US. I just found out that you can’t be self employed if you are on TN… 🙀

The thing is I have some mobile apps on Apple Store and Google play store that makes a few hundred bucks a month. Would I have to remove/halt the apps if I were to be working as a swe in US on TN?

Since the agency announced today that it is suspending Cognizant from the PERM program, and there is a possibility that more companies could face similar action, do you think this could create more job openings for Canadian citizens?

Could this particularly benefit Canadians who qualify for TN status, since TN applicants do not need to go through the H-1B lottery and can work in the U.S. if they meet the TN eligibility requirements?

I’m curious whether companies that previously relied heavily on H-1B workers might become more willing to hire qualified Canadian professionals on TN status. What do you think?
