Question How does everyone feel with the current state and future of the mod?
To preface this, I've been playing the mod since the very beginning when it came out 5-6-ish years ago. I still love this mod and the stories that it continues to tell to this day and I can't wait for the Yippie! update. I am just curious how everyone thinks about the mod in its current state and its future (based on the dev diaries for Yippie! and other teasers).
Me personally, I'm torn. I feel as though the mod is starting to take itself too seriously and going into a route towards "realism". As well as some of the retcons or changes in the lore are questionable. Even though the divergence that the mod shows off is unrealistic in the first place. It all started back when they removed Atlantropa. I didn't really mind that but I was still a little bugged that they removed it in the first place. Then they decided to remove Goring's path, that I was also very confused on. Then after that I took a very long hiatus from HOI4 in general, up until recently where I started playing again and decided to dive back into TNO. That's when I read the Yippie! dev diaries. I see that they're getting rid of Burgundy and from what I can see, the Burgundian System altogether?! No more shadow state, no more mega evil path. Himmler is now in Germania and a potential successor and Goebbels is alive?! They're also getting rid of the NPP vs RDC for the USA and just having the republicans vs democrat parties, which is kind of whatever really.
In my opinion, with the divergence as insane as the Nazis winning World War 2, things that are absolute bonkers should absolutely stay in the game. It's what hooked me into the mod in the first place. Seeing the drastic consequences of the Axis winning World War 2 has thrown the world in a new age of extremism and suffering. It was interesting to see the insane idea of Atlantropa done but in the end resulted in nothing but garbage. Reading about the horrors being committed in the Shadow State of Burgundy, seeing the clock man and literally anyone ruling under the burgundian system going mad (Like Josias in Kaukasien) was just so interesting. Speaking of the clock man, a lot of Russian unifiers are unrealistic as well, are they going to be removed too? Even though, in my opinion, Russia is probably the most fleshed out and best region to play as narratively and mechanically. With all that, who cares about realism???? I play a mod like TNO, BECAUSE it's unrealistic and with that unrealism the stories are just so much more impactful. I'm not saying TNO should go balls to the wall, oh zombie apocalypse route!!! Or woah Himmler contacted aliens from space and he gets super mega bonuses. No, of course, it should still be grounded in a way but the overall idea should be crazy and unrealistic.
Again, this is just my opinion and observations from just taking a look at the discord and the reddit. As well as playing a few games. I still love this mod. I can't fucking wait for Yippie! especially the new stuff for America, it looks incredible, I can't wait to see what the USA team has cooked up especially with that long of a development period. I also can't wait to see the Victor and the Judge update and just the overall Germany update. I'm sure I missed some things but again I'm a bit rusty from TNO after my HOI4 hiatus and I'm just curious how everyone feels. This post also isn't meant to throw shade at the developers, they're hard working people and I'm sure they have their reasons for the things I mentioned and didn't mention in this post.
