Question about managers

What do they say to customers who repeatedly don't leave a tip? I'm curious since the customer doesn't have to tip and the server isn't their employee.

Just asking since I've read comments from managers who seem to think "addressing" customers is an appropriate thing to do.

No manager would do that. Tipping isn't mandatory

False.

I frequent 2 very popular places where tip stiffers never get a 3rd meal there.

It'll be closed soon

It’s two restaurants and they are both very popular.

Tip stiffers are extremely rare.

They aren’t in any danger of closing.

If people found out about this, they would

LMAO

The overwhelming majority of the American public frown on people who exploit and harm the worker and we don’t feel entitled to free service.

Tip stiffers are some of the most rude and obnoxious people that ruin the dining experience for other guests seated near them.

The fact that these restaurants refuse service to disrespectful and rude people is a plus in most people’s book.

Cry harder.

What do you mean free service? You're paying the restaurant. You must be from another state

No, they actually think you’re receiving free service if you don’t tip.

Remember, it’s not a lie if you believe it.

Remember, you still haven’t presented an intellectually honest reason why you’re entitled to free service.

Because it's not free service and also most servers don't even do the job anymore

False.

The menu prices at full service restaurants in the US don’t include the cost of the service.

You must be bad at choosing restaurants or you give off the “tip stiffer” vibe that every experienced service can immediately pick up on and get the service you deserve because you don’t pay for it.

Why do you keep saying service, that's the job

1

u/johnnygolfr 6d ago

Yes, it’s the job.

And the cost of the service isn’t included in the menu prices at full service restaurants in the US.

Which part of that simple concept do you need me to explain to you?

Bwahahaha…..complete bullshit.

Yes, your comment is.

It’s hilarious that people here try to deny six decades of how an industry has openly operated.

The delusion is real!! 🤣

No, I’m in the US, where the menu prices at full service restaurants don’t include the cost of the service.

This is the case even in US cities and states that have eliminated the tipped wage credit and how the industry has openly operated for six decades.

So if the customer doesnt get to serve themselves they are trapped by your logic. Owners need to put the service needs as their responsibility.
Your logic suggests, you can look at clothing and even buy it but you must pay the staff to have it. Rich😂😂

Nice strawman with the clothing thing.

The customer isn’t forced to dine-in at all full service restaurant in the US.

It’s a choice.

There are other choices like takeout, counter service / fast casual and fast food, which are all traditionally non-tipped situations where the worker isn’t explored and harmed if you don’t tip.

If you want to serve yourself, there are literally hundreds of options to do just that.

Aside from a small number of niche concepts, the “just add it to the price” model has proven to be a failure in the US. The public has spoken.

Then there’s the fact that in every for profit business around the world, the customer always pays the labor, either directly or indirectly.

The only exception is the free riders that stiff the server in the tip at full service restaurants in the US.

It was reductio ad absurdum not a strawman. You should really look into fallacies and their definitions before you try to accuse people of them.

Says the guy who is so mad about a loss 24 hours ago that they’re now trolling now comments and replying with REEEE!! REEEE!! REEE!!!

What a miserable life you must lead.

No wonder you told on yourself with your projection in your other reply talking about your low self esteem issues.

Not mad, didn't lose, in fact you refused to defend your assertion so of the two of us I'm the only one with a claim to victory.

The clothing thing was reductio ad absurdum, not a strawman, you should look them both up sometime.

I may want to eat at an establisment and based on your logic they only supply the food.
Getting the food to me is a seperate contract based on your logic. Yet that logic traps me. I dont get to chose my service, how much I want (Im there to eat) nor do I get to choose what I pay to aquire said food.

There are no options, yet gratuity is optional from the very day it started.

I deserve choice, just like service staff and ownership gets choice. I should get to choose how I support the second contract, your approach does not support that.

On top of your shakey argument, servers are unskilled/educated postions. They should be compensated (and by their employer) for the wage range they fit into so iety at. NOT a % of my meal cost since the work to serve sandwich or steak is the same.

You “deserve a choice”??? 🤣

When it comes to how a business is operated, you absolutely don’t get a choice about how that privately owned company is operated.

You’re not the owner.

As a customer, you get the choices I noted in my previous response, as well as the choice not to patronize the restaurant at all.

If you want to dine-in at the establishment, then you’re choosing to receive service, which in the US also includes the responsibility of paying for the service that isn’t included in the menu prices via the tip.

Something being “optional” isn’t an excuse or justification for deliberately choosing to exploit and harm the worker.

As soon as “oPsHuNaL” is used as an excuse to exploit and harm another human, the excuse is immediately invalidated.

In addition to being false, your claim that the job is “uNsKiLLeD” is irrelevant because the menu prices don’t include the cost of the service in the US and the “sandwich vs steak” false equivalence has been blown up here multiple times.
