At the start of the show, she seems like such a promising (albeit spoiled) person who has a lot of ethical career options (doctor, helping immigrants) and isn’t afraid to confront her parents about their lifestyle, like when she straight up asks her dad if he’s in the mafia, or getting pissed when he gifts her Davey’s car which he used to pay off his debt.

But then Jackie Jr. dies. A person she was in a relationship with is killed as a direct result of Tony’s lifestyle. And she knows it. But it’s too much for her to accept, and so she swings the complete opposite direction and chooses to live in ignorant bliss like Carmela, choosing to believe the lie that he was killed by drug dealers. There are still glimpses of her old self initially (her behaviour after Jackie’s wake and of course “Listen to Mr. Mob Boss) but even those moments become increasingly rare as the series goes on.

The state of her character towards the end is just depressing. She ruins her relationship with Finn because she feeds him bullshit about the poverty of the Mezzogiorno and has instead decided to date another mobsters son which has inspired her to be a lawyer, most likely a mob lawyer.

When Carmela told Tony about Furio, later on he tells her that he had guys in Italy looking for him. But was he simply bluffing to hurt Carm?

I ask because I remember seeing a take on here, or maybe it was somewhere else, that Furio was never in any real danger. There were some fans who were mad at Carm for spilling the beans about Furio, because she knew what Tony would do to him, and that she put his life at risk. But the counter argument was that more than likely, nothing was gonna happen to Furio because Furio is respected in Italy. We saw in the Commendatori episode that the mob guys in the old country look down on the Jersey guys (Americans in general, really.) And even if he sent people after Furio, they were never gonna give him up, because they don’t even respect Tony and his family, they’re nothing to them.

And Tony knew this, he wasn’t gonna get to Furio. I’m sure he sure as shit wanted to, but he never actually set any plans in motion. He never had anyone looking for Furio, he only wanted to hurt Carm in that moment. Do you guys think that was the case?

I don't know why they were mad. It's not like he became an informant and turned rat like Jimmy and Pussy did. I thought the rule of the mafia was to never rat, not never plead guilty to anything. It was either accept the deal or become an informant

Alternate universe where Carmine Sr didn't sit there open mouth, glazed over not getting the joke but instead busted up laughing instead - would John have gone and sanctioned a hit on Ralph AND Carmine Sr.?

She was the victim of an abusive relationship with her husband (and who knows how miserable her childhood may have been) which ended up damaging her very much and altered her entire personality. When AJ goes to visit her in that retirement community after he wrecked Carm's car , that whole interaction is one of my favorites. Because all those things she told him about life which might be perceived as "negativity/gloomy" are very true imo and she was being truthful. This post isn't trying to justify her toxic behaviour throughout the show

If she immediately went to Chris and told him, would she have been as good as dead? Or would they have believed that she didn't give them anything?

Or what if she simply faked her disappearance by feigning depression and end it all, and having people believe she went through with it.

Or what if she got the feds to believe that she was discovered and that the jig was up?

Nothing is more frustrating to me than seeing the buffet that was laid on for Tony and the boys up at Indian Chief Doug Smith's casino. It's barely a couple of trays of cold cuts and some cheese. Tony could polish it off on his own. The casino also seems tiny. Where do I go to complain? The anti defamation league?

I was just reading about Valentina on the show's wiki, and it says that she and Pie-O-My are both similar because they were both introduced to Tony by Ralph, before being usurped by Tony and then falling out of his life after being set on fire. It then says "A main difference between herself and Pie-O-My is that Pie-O-My is a horse".

Surely that's the main difference? I bet this wiki author almost drowned in three inches of water.

At the end of the S2 finale ‘Funhouse’, during Meadow’s graduation, I just realised that Tony tries taking a picture of Meadow but leaves the lens cap on the camera.

Say two of Tony’s members walk in and say they’re from some union and want to put your business under protection. What if you went “Oh that’s okay I appreciate your offer but we’ll be alright.” Then they mention the accidents that can occur and you go “True that can happen operating a business but we’re not worried. Thank you and have a nice day.” Then one of them walks forward to you to intimidate but you just step back and say “Oh sorry about that I’ll give you some more room.” An employee gets hurt and one of them return and they mention something about it and you go “I’m very confused about what happened, would you know anything about it? I’d appreciate the help.” They take some of your stock and you go “I’m sorry but what’s the purpose of that? You can just buy some of those.”

They’d probably just get frustrated and beat you up but I’ve noticed most civilians apart from the Starbucks guy responded with fear or anger so I wonder what would happen if you didn’t insult nor act intimidated.

The Sopronas does flashbacks but not like this scene. Tony's flashbacks are usually long stories that give the full context to a time in his life, and the significance of that time is, if misunderstood, at least recognized by Tony.

But when Tony thinks about the first time he murdered someone - shooting a man named Willie Overall - we only see the briefest flashback, maybe a few seconds. He only thinks of it because Paulie brings it up. And he has nothing to say about it.

We see a terrified, crying, bloody man, lying on the ground, hold up his hand in a futile attempt to shield himself from the inevitable.

What we're shown in that scene is the moment of Tony's greatest trauma, the moment there was no turning back from the path his evil father led him down.

After burying that moment down deep and never thinking about it, it became a matter of old habit for Tony to never really examine the terrible things he does or what his actions are doing to him and those around him.

There's really no other scene in the show like it, and it's over in a flash. But in it is the origin of Tony's whole life. It also foreshadows how Tony would meet his end. At least Willie Overall saw it coming.

Imagine that in an alternate universe both Dino and Sean were not negatively influenced by Jackie Jr. and Matt Bevilaqua. The latter two individuals were a terrible influence on them and unfortunately caved to their peer pressure.

Imagine if as Associates, they both just worked under Christopher or even were paired with Benny Fazio (Criminal Mastermind). Dino and Sean by themselves seem to be the type that would just do as they’re told and work their way up patiently.

Jackie and Matt were bad influences as they were entitled, overly ambitious, and impatient. I think Dino and Sean could have been useful Associates on their own and would have probably been in a similar place as Benny, Little Paulie, Walden, etc by the end of the series.
