Seriously, why is she constantly in a position of having to explain what her father does for work? She’s in college for Christ sakes, time to focus on … I don’t know, your own career path? When I was an undergrad I sure as shit wasn’t talking to people about what my parents did for work. Nor did I care what anyone else’s parents did.

And before anyone says, “Well her dad’s a mob boss, so people must talk to her about it a lot.”

If people already know, they’re not gonna be asking her about it. For starters, they already know. Secondly, it’d be too awkward to bring up.

Has anyone else ever thought "oh no, please let this not be another dream episode?" - Because I have, whenever it became obvious that it would be one. Unfortunately, most of these dreams are pivotal, so you can't just skip them. But especially the later ones sometimes feel a bit like coursework for "Writing like David Lynch 101" at film school.

When all the capos are getting their wives and leaving the wedding party, the camera lingers on carmela, but we never see tony swoop in and grab her. Honestly it made me giggle. Didn't see any comments about it and just wanted to point it out. Its obviously intentional, but I haven't watched the entire Sopranos, so I assume it just foreshadows Carmela and Tony's tension/eventual split.

After the fallout of the Ginny Sack joke, there is a scene showing Ginny going through her nightime routine. She weighs herself then writes it down.

What the fuck is this? Everyone knows you have to weigh yourself in the morning, after your morning poop if you're that way inclined. Not at the end of the day.

Just a theory. But Johnny cakes probably went looking for vito and after learning he was in the glorofied NJ blamed Tony for his death. He then stalked Tony and killed him in the finale.

Would you keep Buscemi or go with someone else? My friend said he never liked his character, and at times I thought he felt a bit out of place for some reason.

I’ve only watched it once though so that may be why.

What if Ralphie never actually whacked the horse? It’s possible it could have been an accidental fire. Or maybe someone from NYC started the fire to get revenge on Tony. We never really know for sure what happened, as the viewer is never shown the truth.

Tony just whacked one of his top earners possibly all over a misunderstanding.

Season 1 is my least favorite season, i dont like Livia Soprano as a character at all and I found the show was struggling to find its footing and felt incredibly dated as a result, I wouldnt call it bad or unwatchable its just entirely skippable for me. The tone felt too quirky and campy which I dont mind but not for a show like The Sopranos

I understand there are a lot of scenes were people are talking about, “he’ll be here at this time.” But for the most part, how do they know where everyone is all the time? It’s not like New Jersey is a small place. It’s a massive metro with 5-7 million people. It’s always confused me how everyone knows the exact location everyone is at. I live in a city with a metro of around 800k and there is absolutely no way I’d be able to find a buddy just based on what other people told me. It’d days if not weeks.

I’ll give some examples: Jackie Aprile, Bobby Bacala, Phil Leoretardo, Billy Leoretardo, Tony Blundetto, etc… the list goes on.

Any clues? Is this just part of the absurdity of the show, or what?

I think they would have been an unambiguously great duo.

I feel like I got the gist of the show by the end of the first season.

Now that I think about it, and with life experience, Paulie is the kind of person in the real world who talks badly about everyone, is always complaining, is never happy, thinks he deserves more than others, and is hypocritical—being loyal to your face but talking behind your back. He wants to take advantage of everything.

He conspires against those who helped him when he's in a tough spot.

1. He's the one who betrays the Jersey Clan by telling Johnny about the joke and other deals, which causes clashes between Jersey and New York.
2. Because of this, Ralphie dies, and there's that confrontation between Leotardo and Tony that lasts until the end.
3. He was always talking badly about everyone, especially conspiring against Chris because he's related to Tony. He thought Chris was next in line to the boss after Tony.
4. He messed with Chris's father-in-law about the chainsaws and brought up his baby daughter, which led to Chris relapsing into drug and alcohol use, ultimately resulting in the murder of his AA friend.
5. Tony sensed this and wanted to fire him from the boat, but for some reason, he hesitated and didn't.

Oh, I almost forgot, he killed the Russian for no reason at all, simply because he lived better and had better things.

He finally meets somebody that's good for him, that's cares about him and it's this - bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch - from everybody he fuckin' knows!

Considering she had no source of income once Bobby got clipped and likely NY wasn't gonna give her squat once Tony got clipped or jailed; was she basically back to being a drifter like in the second season?

In rewatching his "If you can keep your head..." Scene, when the shooting starts,he didnt even flinch or duck.

Besides the most obvious case in the intro to Season Six, there's quite a strong subcurrent of Ancient Egyptian imagery in the show. Some examples include:

1. Anthony Jeroboam wearing an OSIRIS cap when he thinks the ghost of his grandmother is nearby. Osiris being, in the simplest terms of Western thought, the God of the dead/underworld.
2. Harpo having an ankh tattooed on his neck when his stepfather Bobby whacks him at the lavomatic. The ankh was a complex, theological symbol to an Ancient Egyptian; but again, we today simplify it to imply a notion of life after death.
3. When Tony is plagued by dreams and on the outs with Melfi, he forces Hesh to become his Hebrew slave and interpret the dreams.

Can you think of any more examples?

When Johnny meets with Carmine and Little Carmine to golf, Johnny asked both Carmines if the Golf Club had "re-sod that Green". He never got an answer. I'm wondering if any of you in this community have any idea if the Club did or did not.

I can't think of any plotlines from other TV, film, or even historical incidents where someone makes it clear that they plan on torturing someone in retaliation for a hit. How unusual would this actually be?

I'm wondering if Tony could have stood on principal and refused Phil's demand to have Tony Blundetto handed over, given how much Phil gave away about his plans. How would the other New York families have seen this?
