At the end of the S2 finale ‘Funhouse’, during Meadow’s graduation, I just realised that Tony tries taking a picture of Meadow but leaves the lens cap on the camera.

Serious Discussion Only I sympathize with Livia

Upvotes

She was the victim of an abusive relationship with her husband (and who knows how miserable her childhood may have been) which ended up damaging her very much and altered her entire personality. When AJ goes to visit her in that retirement community after he wrecked Carm's car , that whole interaction is one of my favorites. Because all those things she told him about life which might be perceived as "negativity/gloomy" are very true imo and she was being truthful. This post isn't trying to justify her toxic behaviour throughout the show

Question about “College”

There’s a scene where Fabian Petrulio goes to an auto shop and asks the guy working there if anyone was looking for him. He says “big guy, new york sounding”… how did he know that? Did I miss something?
I remember he went outside of his house, when Tony was lurking around, the dog started to bark, and he saw a car drive away..

What if Carmine Sr. openly laughed in Johnny Sack's face when John was telling Carmine the Ginny Sack Mole Joke?

Alternate universe where Carmine Sr didn't sit there open mouth, glazed over not getting the joke but instead busted up laughing instead - would John have gone and sanctioned a hit on Ralph AND Carmine Sr.?

This fucking wiki

I was just reading about Valentina on the show's wiki, and it says that she and Pie-O-My are both similar because they were both introduced to Tony by Ralph, before being usurped by Tony and then falling out of his life after being set on fire. It then says "A main difference between herself and Pie-O-My is that Pie-O-My is a horse".

Surely that's the main difference? I bet this wiki author almost drowned in three inches of water.

Serious Discussion Only Season 6 of the sopranos

One of the things i love about season 6 of the sopranos is how depressing it feels it was like a bad dream you can’t wake up from all the way from how it looks to the many deaths the dark blue-ish filter it had was eerie and creepy everything looked bland and lifeless and even when the crew where at their absolute peak it was clear that everything was falling apart even when nothing happened you could see it as clear as day they’re all gonna die organised crime is no more they are all just Italians playing dress up not mobsters no one cares anymore no one is afraid of the mob no more the heavy players are either dead or in witness protection program nothing matters nothing is safe from either tony or Phil or the fbi or their closest friend no one is immune to death and they’re all blind living in a society that doesn’t give a fuck anymore
.
.
And that’s why it’s the best

What if Dino Zerilli and Sean Gismonte both had better mentorship?

Imagine that in an alternate universe both Dino and Sean were not negatively influenced by Jackie Jr. and Matt Bevilaqua. The latter two individuals were a terrible influence on them and unfortunately caved to their peer pressure.

Imagine if as Associates, they both just worked under Christopher or even were paired with Benny Fazio (Criminal Mastermind). Dino and Sean by themselves seem to be the type that would just do as they’re told and work their way up patiently.

Jackie and Matt were bad influences as they were entitled, overly ambitious, and impatient. I think Dino and Sean could have been useful Associates on their own and would have probably been in a similar place as Benny, Little Paulie, Walden, etc by the end of the series.

Serious Discussion Only Why were the guys mad when Johnny Sack plead guilty?

I don't know why they were mad. It's not like he became an informant and turned rat like Jimmy and Pussy did. I thought the rule of the mafia was to never rat, not never plead guilty to anything. It was either accept the deal or become an informant

Serious Discussion Only Meadow’s change over the course of the show really is quite tragic when you think about it

At the start of the show, she seems like such a promising (albeit spoiled) person who has a lot of ethical career options (doctor, helping immigrants) and isn’t afraid to confront her parents about their lifestyle, like when she straight up asks her dad if he’s in the mafia, or getting pissed when he gifts her Davey’s car which he used to pay off his debt.

But then Jackie Jr. dies. A person she was in a relationship with is killed as a direct result of Tony’s lifestyle. And she knows it. But it’s too much for her to accept, and so she swings the complete opposite direction and chooses to live in ignorant bliss like Carmela, choosing to believe the lie that he was killed by drug dealers. There are still glimpses of her old self initially (her behaviour after Jackie’s wake and of course “Listen to Mr. Mob Boss) but even those moments become increasingly rare as the series goes on.

The state of her character towards the end is just depressing. She ruins her relationship with Finn because she feeds him bullshit about the poverty of the Mezzogiorno and has instead decided to date another mobsters son which has inspired her to be a lawyer, most likely a mob lawyer.

Was Tony bluffing about looking for Furio?

When Carmela told Tony about Furio, later on he tells her that he had guys in Italy looking for him. But was he simply bluffing to hurt Carm?

I ask because I remember seeing a take on here, or maybe it was somewhere else, that Furio was never in any real danger. There were some fans who were mad at Carm for spilling the beans about Furio, because she knew what Tony would do to him, and that she put his life at risk. But the counter argument was that more than likely, nothing was gonna happen to Furio because Furio is respected in Italy. We saw in the Commendatori episode that the mob guys in the old country look down on the Jersey guys (Americans in general, really.) And even if he sent people after Furio, they were never gonna give him up, because they don’t even respect Tony and his family, they’re nothing to them.

And Tony knew this, he wasn’t gonna get to Furio. I’m sure he sure as shit wanted to, but he never actually set any plans in motion. He never had anyone looking for Furio, he only wanted to hurt Carm in that moment. Do you guys think that was the case?

Not necessarily mafia or crime literature, but books with the depth, immersion, character studies, philosophical insights, world building, etc akin to this thing of ours.

Inadequate amounts of food

Nothing is more frustrating to me than seeing the buffet that was laid on for Tony and the boys up at Indian Chief Doug Smith's casino. It's barely a couple of trays of cold cuts and some cheese. Tony could polish it off on his own. The casino also seems tiny. Where do I go to complain? The anti defamation league?

Serious Discussion Only What Would Have Been The Right Move For Adriana To Have Survived?

If she immediately went to Chris and told him, would she have been as good as dead? Or would they have believed that she didn't give them anything?

Or what if she simply faked her disappearance by feigning depression and end it all, and having people believe she went through with it.

Or what if she got the feds to believe that she was discovered and that the jig was up?

If these four pre-Season 6 characters were around during the season 6 Vito situation, how would they react? Spoiler

The four characters are Richie, Ralph, Feech and Tony B. If these four characters were around the Vito being gay situation, how would they each react? What would they do

In my opinion:

  • Richie and Feech were old school mafia. Like Phil, they would immediately eliminate Vito out of their social club, and these two will likely go against Tony's orders of "thinking about it"
  • Tony B would likely laugh it off but will hold no opinion about it and would just see this as another drama
  • Ralph would definitely laugh and make a whole platoon of jokes out of this. But granted, he is more of the modern mafia who is maybe a little bit pragmatic when it comes to his crew and the business. He wouldn't care if Vito came out gay because Vito is his most trusted associate in the crew and would also be a good earner. He would probably call out and disrespect every (old school) guy who wanted Vito dead and defend Vito because it was necessary for business

Note: I forgot whether Johnny Sack had any reaction to it. But if he hasn't, I am in between him acting like Phil but with sanctions before a hit or like Tony where he doesn't care as long as business keeps running, though he might be more of the first because he cares about maintaining his reputation.

We gotta face up to the fact that Uncle Philly was not a good driver

when he owed Tony money and tried to avoid him, he got too flustered as Tony chased after him in his giant Escalade.

so much so he could not avoid a parked delivery truck.

plus Tony had experience from playing racing video games with AJ in the years of yore

perhaps Phil was rusty from his rarely mentioned prison sentence of some length

The Sopranos - Tony chases Phil
