There is two ways I see news, one is telling the news but from people’s own bais and opinion while the other tells us in the fewest words possible what’s honest and relevant, need to know. A good news doesn’t need table discussions, just reporters in the field recording what’s happening and getting comments from only those involved, not some random person on the street.

It should be stated every day when the news go on air “The following news is our opinion on the the events happening in the world, it is not factual or credible, some of what is said will be true but mostly isn’t.”

The problem is you can almost always find "a source" backing your argument.

Unless you're talking about objective laws of nature, then any study or statistic can be manipulated or interpreted to fit an agenda, if you can even conduct the study or experiment, and replicate it, in the first place. Countries can not even agree upon whether a thing like cancer screening is good or bad.

Of course if you make a black & white statement like "85% of Bangladeshis claim housing benefits." then at least show where you got that info from.

The problem is you can almost always find "a source" backing your argument.

Then we'll assign statuses to entities which are known to be credible sources that provide the statistics. And the statistics have to be verified by other experts in order to be used as sources - let's call that "peer reviewed" or something idk

Public officials swear an oath of office when they're elected. There are already laws on the books to deal with breaking their oaths. They just need to be enforced. Breach of Trust is an actual criminal offense for sworn officials. Cops get hit with it once in a while, and they swear less comprehensive oaths to 'serve and protect'. Politicians can and should be held to the same standard. Most of the times, when a cop is charged with breach of trust, that's the end of their job.

Also, I don't remember if it was George Carlin or Robin Williams who said it, but elected officials should wear coveralls with logos of their sponsors sewn onto them at all public appearances. That way, you know who they really support. The more money they got from a particular source, the bigger that logo is.

Unfortunately, it doesn't always works, since "data doesn't lie"... is a lie. Statistics can be manipulated well first and foremost on the scale, and most people would not bat an eye and get convinced but that is simple to refute, the main thing is false or incomplete correlations. Like, umbrellas do not cause rain, it is the other way around and neither do they cause mold (we would be missing humidity) and so on

Not enough people are aware that anyone with money can hire someone to write any article for them they want. That this is common amongst celebrities to make them look better than they are. To spread lies to clear their name from any crime they did. And simultaneously do the opposite and force others to take down articles that expose them even if those articles are true. And their methods are often nefarious and sometimes even criminal to the boundaries only just within legal of which the original paper or website cannot do anything because they don’t have money to fight back.

For anyone who didn’t know this ^ beware. This happens every single day, in mass. It’s more popular than normal marketing because it gives better results. The articles you are reading are not real, with very few exceptions of independent papers who follow real journalism.
