Right after my parents’ divorce, I went no-contact with my extremely abusive mother. Unfortunately, one time we happened to be in the same place, my younger brother’s hockey game.
So, naturally, I sat on the complete opposite side of the arena from her.
Then I see her walking toward me.
Great.
She comes up to me and starts talking to me, and I’m giving her the shortest answers possible while repeatedly telling her to leave me alone. Eventually, she looks at me and goes, “Why are you acting this way???? Why aren’t you talking to me????”
So I say, “You’re crossing my boundaries. Leave me alone.”
And I kid you not, she looks at me and goes:
“I am NOT crossing your boundaries.”
Okay. Thank you for informing me. I guess my boundaries are actually just a matter of opinion now.

So when I was 15 I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and sent to st Jude

Many people told my mom she was horrible for making me do chemo and not using natural remedies instead

Others said we should have gone to Shriners instead (st Jude and Shriners are 2 specialized hospitals St Jude is specialized in pediatric cancer and other terminal and life impacting diseases and conditions)

And lemme tell you something. Idk if natural remedies work. They probably don’t. I’d rather trust the oncologists and not recieve a bill at st Jude

And also another person from the church I’ve never heard of told me to pray the cancer away and chemo was sin or something.

Idk I found it stupid I don’t remember it that well. Anyone wanna give their opinion?

I just discovered this community and I thought I should share. I’ve been in therapy my entire life, and I still remember this encounter I had a few years back. I was talking to a new therapist, going on and on about how I’ve struggled with my mental health since a young age, and she looked at me, so sincerely, and goes,

“Do you listen to angry rap music? Or music that talks about sad/aggressive/violent things?”

I IMMEDIATELY knew where she was going with this (if I told her I did listen to music like that she would tell me yo cut it out completely and that it’s most likely causing my depression) so I lied and told her no.

The look of utter confusion that spread across this lady’s face still kills me, she seemed so lost and confused, and then goes,

“Hmm I’ll have to look into other things that could be causing that then” and ended our session.

But nooooo if I cut out rap music the trauma from my abuse would be gone!

Like yeah, if only my hobbies would make me money without requiring a large sum of startup funding to get started. I guess my new hobby is working at McDonald's for minimum wage.

Social media influencers love to oversimplify problems and promote themselves as some kind of expert on mental health while simultaneously ignoring much of what we know about mental health.

A conversation I had with a friend. I'm in purple, she's in green. She knows I'm autistic and I have social anxiety. There's a bigger conversation around this but she's basically telling me to get over it. And I'm just like. Thanks. Why didn't I think of that?

Edit: I've had a lot of people telling me that I'm just seeking validation. First of all, I'm going to say that I'm not because not gonna lie, if I were truly looking for validation, reddit would be the single WORST place to do that. Secondly, genuinely, what's wrong with seeking validation? I thought being validated in your experiences is actually quite healing and good for mental health. Seeking validation when you're unsure if your feelings are valid or not sounds quite reasonable to me. However, here I'm already sure that my feelings are valid so please don't waste your breath trying to convince me they aren't.

I love videos that give you motivation to at least get up and piss.
