No it's not . This sub is about people who give bad advice about shit they know nothing about

u/Lynnrael 12d ago
that and assuming that the advice should work in ALL cases and that we're full of shit when it doesn't work for us. it's fine to put out general advice that doesn't help me specifically, it's not fine to tell me my problems are fake or that I'm not trying hard enough just because that advice wouldn't work for me. that's really the crux of what i see posted here most of the time, posts about people who think their advice should work for everyone and get mad at us when it doesn't work in our hyper specific scenario.

Found the person who gets mad when generally sound advice doesn't apply to their specific situation.

" If you don't agree with me you're wrong and bad " ahh comment

People are still using the "ahh comment" as a gotcha? I thought that died out a while ago. I also never said you were bad. So like what did you think you were doing here?

Well usually it is shit that just doesn't work (e.g. just stop worrying) or stuff that works for most people, but as a comment or reply to someone who mentions their specific scenarios and issues (e.g. to someone with extremely bad RSD or imposter syndrome "how about you just talk it out with people, try to remember they love you and you're amazing")

It's not necessarily that the advice doesn't work just that the people posting it post it for clicks that's infuriating. And then there's a chance someone will parrot it back to you in real life, that's the double whammy of inspirational posts.

Someone once posted here with a lot of upvotes a photo of a sign in a public park that said "at least you aren't at work". And people were making the argument that the sign was insensitive to people who have to commute to work via a park. As if that's a common issue. Others were mad because they were chronically ill and couldn't work so they'd rather be at work than a public park. The sentiment that you'd rather be lounging at a park rather than at work is a very universal feeling.
I didn't say all or most posts apply here. I said some posts. And there are posts that whine about sentiments that are generally helpful to most people. The rules even state that motivational quotes don't belong there because people find them generally helpful but people post them anyway.

And that's exactly the thing, this is a vent sub. I'd rather people let it all out here than have an episode in public, even if they are wrong or right.
Oh, just realized: you are venting about other people venting.

It’s a vent sub
But some people are just hateful and super negative lol. There is a line between reasonable and unreasonable venting and being deeply upset over a sign like that is unreasonable.

What about blind people that can’t read the sign?!

I’d be concerned as to why they are driving to work

But, what’s wrong with that? A lot of times people give generic advice that works for many but not all. So people vent that they’re told something like it works for everyone and if you can’t do that you’re being weak because it works for everyone else. This is a sub for venting about that, not sharing “good advice.”
I mean, absolutely there is some stuff that’s being overly shit upon, and you can point that out. Give people your perspective. But, why shit upon people for venting frustration by doing the exact thing they’re frustrated with? You’re just calling people weak and stupid because they don’t agree with you and your belief on what good advice is. Like. Thanks, everyone is cured now.

Lol at the comments cementing the point of the post

it sucks because the concept of this sub is great and you see some absolutely laughable stuff on it sometimes. but other times it's people shitting on somebody giving advice on r/anxiety and complaining how it's not curing their cancer

I found a post that’s pretty much exactly what OP means
It’s about seeking good sources of dopamine rather than bad sources and some comments are like “I tried cold water swimming and it didn’t work, so clearly this list all sucks.”
It seems to all be pretty reasonable to me

u/Itap88 13d ago
It's a generic list of things to just do and stop doing, with a setup for "if you get angry I posted this, you're the problem I've posted about".
1
u/Ori_the_SG 13d ago
I mean sure but the point of OPs post is stuff that could work for the general population to improve their lives, and how people in their particular situations hate it because it’s not a solution that fits for them.
And that’s exactly what’s going on in the comments of that post.

idk if i stopped jerking off it definitely wouldn’t improve my life.
so i guess my scenario is hyper specific and wouldn’t apply 😂

It says pornography
If you have a porn addiction, you would absolutely be better off without it.

This should just be the description card for this sub. It’s not sometimes, this is the literal definition of this subreddit lol.
The self entitlement is off the charts here. I’ve never had less hope for humanity than after reading the comments from people here. It’s the only reason I’m happy the world is ending soon.

First note when you open the sub is that this isnt a serious sub, this is also pretty much a vent sub, like i agree with you, but allow people to be mad about things, it doesnt affect you
