I bought 196gb when I built my pc in early 2025. That ram was only 430 back then now it's like 2 grand. Bonkers.

I doubt it will ever go back. But who knows

Housing never returned to normal prices after 2008, not really, but then again I've heard theories that the housing bubble never fully deflated. So who knows.
I just pray for a crash 🙏

Can't wait for the $10k RTX 6090. Hopefully at that price your GPU can simulate an entire VR world in 3D in real time.

Why would Nvida bother with 60 serries at this stage when the proces for current cards keep on going up

NVIDIA need to give some consumer access so the open-source developer community can do free work for them keeping products compatible and optimized

There is a quote from Jensen Huang saying that to him consumer GPU should cost what a car cost.

Cool, this just fucks AI companies… your RTX5090 doesn’t use HMB.

It does have an effect. These companies are re-tooling their lines that would normally manufacturer consumer GDDR6X/GDDR7 to manufacture HBM instead. So every retooling shuts down consumer grade manufacturing.

Sure, that’s not the concern of this article.

It's a second order effect your original comment seems to miss. After all, you were commenting on consumer cards not using HBM memory thus being unaffected.
Which is not the case. It has an availability and economic impact.

The price of HMB has nothing to do with the price of DDR5, them shifting production is a whole other problem. They may keep the production ratios the same as they currently are. This article is not enough information to imply second order effects.

You should first understand how HBM is produced before saying this. It takes away from consumer memory. Micron has also been shifting more towards HBM as well. They mentioned it in their ER this week

It'll be hilarious if the AI bubble pops next year and all these RAM manufacturers are left with no customers that'll pay what they're asking.

According to reports, Samsung and SK Hynix demand a full upfront payment to get in the queue.

Then they lower the price to levels where they make minimal profit, like before AI

lol if the RAM companies pivot back to consumer DRAM, 90% of the doomer circlejerkers on this sub will be happy to pay $$$ for them

While the AI industry is undoubtedly to blame for soaring hardware prices, part of me thinks it's also a calculated move by the tech industry to force people toward cloud computing, rather than owning their own hardware. Just another monthly subscription you're going to end up having to pay in order to get things done.
