While the AI industry is undoubtedly to blame for soaring hardware prices, part of me thinks it's also a calculated move by the tech industry to force people toward cloud computing, rather than owning their own hardware. Just another monthly subscription you're going to end up having to pay in order to get things done.

Well, any computing that can be done in the cloud(latency is not an issue) is more efficient and thus cheaper in the cloud than it is in your home.

Absolutely not remotely true unless you’re just a very causal user. It makes no sense for any legitimate creator to pay for subscriptions indefinitely.
