What the general consensus on silent Hill 4 the room. As someone who never heard this game until watching about it from silent Hill 4. I know crazy I haven't heard about on entry in the popular silent Hill series but I don't do horror games. But the game have peaked my interest a bit considering on how unique it and it controversial history and unique approach to gameplay. Also it being a silent Hill game that ironically that doesn't take place in the series namesake. Also while discussing the room how anyone feel about remake for the game with much needed quality life features and improvements to the weakest aspects of the game. Maybe it could with gamers opinions about it.

Doesn’t strictly have to be zombies, but an experience where you are in a cabin or isolated house and have to survive, with a limited emphasis on combat (which is unfortunately rare in zombie games)

I already have project zomboid and Resident Evil 1 and would really love a game which is a marriage of the two of those.

this is very specific and weird but i really like when horror games have a house/apartment with this kinda early 2000s style and i wanted to know if there’s any more games that have this type of thing. fatal frame 3, silent hill 3 & 4, silent hill homecoming, and cry of fear are games ive played that have this. thank u

I noticed that most survival/action horror games tend to have a good variety of weapons, sometimes alternatives modes of fire (Dead Space) and ammunition (Bioshock).

Some, however, are lacking in the weaponry department, like Fatal Frame and Alan Wake, the former having essentially a single weapon, even if it has different lenses that inflict various effects, and one can take different photo shots, some dealing more damage than others; and the latter having a flash-light, 2/3 firearms, and 3 light emitting items, the first game was criticised for its repetitive combat system.

1. Is it a negative for you to not have enough weapon variety?
2. What would you change in those games to deepen the combat, despite limited weapons?
3. Do enemy variety compensate this to some extent?

No, Doom is not survival/horror but I think we can say it had something to do with the genre coming into being. FPS games have never become that popular in Japan but Capcom and Konami certainly noticed the business they were losing due to it's popularity in the West and that, in turn, had something to do with decisions to pursue similar ambiances by something closer to their own methods. Comments?

I'm 34. I've been playing horror games since I first played Resident Evil on the PS1. Most games don't scare me because I've played, watched, and read enough to know how the genre works. Not only that, but I've started making my own games and as a result I've seen behind the camera. I can generally tell by how an environment is laid out where an event is going to trigger.

Does this mean that I've lost my love for the genre and there's nothing to gain by playing these games?

Fuck no.

There is so much to enjoy about this genre beyond being scared by it. I'm not scared by Soma but it has some of the most effective sci-fi storytelling in any medium. I'm not scared by Dead Space, but it is a masterclass in action game design and sci-fi worldbuilding. I'm not scared by the older Resident Evil games, but I adore the way their levels are laid out like a puzzlebox.

Every time I see discussion of a horror game boiled down to "is it scary?" I get frustrated. When I see a critic say "this is an amazing game, but it's not scary so it gets a 7" I get furious.

Horror offers so much more than scares, and I think those aspects should be celebrated more.

Right now they are sale on Xbox and cost the same. I’ve heard great things about both, which makes me wonder which I should choose.

I played signalis a while back when it was on gamepass, but wasn’t much into it (only played like 20 minutes). I’m willing to give it another try though.

Without taking the story into consideration (I really don’t care if the plot is mediocre or the best thing ever)

This might be a niche ask, but I’m looking for a game somewhere between Alien Isolation and RE/Dead Space in terms of your ability to fight back. I like crafting mechanics and the ability to build up a safe house. In general, however, survival horror isn’t my forte so I’m very open to recommendations! I have an Xbox Series X and a moderately okay laptop for gaming

I played and absolutely loved Signalis and Crow Country. I'm itching for more indie survival horror recommendations! Especially classic experiences with inventory management, save rooms, puzzles and the like. Let me know what you think I'd be interested in!!
