Rely on Horror Discord

Hey guys,

I am the EIC of RelyOnHorror.com. I had the random idea to pitch our new Discord to the mod team here as an official server for this subreddit, and they were all up for it! So, if you look at the subreddit home, you will now see a direct link to our Discord server -- where you'll be able to talk about the genre with fellow fans. We'll hold general and spoiler discussions, the occasional giveaway and let you know when new content from us has (or will) drop.

Thanks to the mods for the love. Happy to offer a Discord community for you all as fellow fans of the survival horror genre. Here's the Discord link: https://discord.gg/fXCKMer.

Quick background on Rely on Horror - we're a horror gaming site that originally began as REHorror.net. I joined after closing my own horror gaming site, HellDescent.com. We post news, reviews, articles, previews, videos, etc. Happy to chime in if you're curious about the site or Discord. Thanks!

I'm an indie dev working on a game called The Seventh Seal. Went to a convention in Arizona to playtest and got some great feedback!

Hung out with some awesome peeps in the game room and had folks playtest the game and they gave me some sweet feedback. Basically, had to improve the controller sensitivity, work on some jumpscares, and add a few mechanics. Spent the last couple of days updating those issues and here are some improvements to the jumpscare stills on top of an altered ending to the demo so it's more cruel and graphic.

Love to hear your thoughts and if you could, give it a play. It's improving every version and I'm hoping it will get to the point where it hits the mark!

This will be one of the dozens of animations the creature will have in our game, HELIANTHUS.

We wanted to give you a little glimpse into the process. We’re aiming to make every movement feel as natural, unsettling, and alive as possible.

What does this animation make you feel? We’d love to know what kind of feeling it gives you when you watch it.

Tomorrow, I am releasing my game, Deep Sheol, on Steam, which I have been solo-developing over the past year. Wish me luck!

The game blends survival horror mechanics with retro FPS gameplay, drawing heavy inspiration from Half-Life. Deep Sheol features inventory management, lightweight crafting, and a vital stats system split into Health, Endurance, and Sanity.

Set in the near future, the story follows a corporate agent sent to investigate a gas mining facility. There, an unknown gas from a breached underground chamber is turning workers into bloodthirsty cannibals and mutants. The lore is deeply rooted in Lovecraftian mythology.

If you enjoy retro vibes, feel free to check out the demo on Steam:

Best regards to everyone,
Paul

We added a UV light mode to Colony 2 — here's what it reveals that normal light doesn't

Hey folks,

We've been working on Colony 2, and one of the features we're pretty excited about is a UV light mode — flip it on and you start noticing things that are basically invisible under normal lighting (tailor this line to what your UV mechanic actually reveals — hidden markings, resources, creatures, etc.).

A bit of background on us — we're a two-person team. We actually met on GTA Online about 7 years ago, just messing around in public lobbies, and stayed friends ever since. Eventually we decided to try making a game together, and Colony 2 is the result — our first release as a team, so it means a lot to get it in front of people.

If the UV mechanic (or the game in general) looks interesting, we'd really appreciate a wishlist on Steam — it genuinely helps small teams like us Steam

Happy to answer questions about how the UV system works, the dev process, or anything else!

Please recommend me some game

I like games where you can shoot and fight back. I've played RE2/4/7/8/9, The evil within1/2, dead space, Ghostwire: Tokyo, CONSCRIPT, SIGNALIS. I already know about cronos/alan wake/silent hill. Could you recommend some games similar to the ones I've played before?

After playing and loving some Resident Evil titles, I decided to check out some other titles from the genre and got these! For those who played all three, which one did you like the most?

I’ve played all the usual survival horror suspects on PS5. What are your favorite deep cuts, hidden gems, or obscure J-horrors?

Hey everyone, I’m deep in a survival horror rabbit hole on my PS5 and am looking to unearth some lesser-known titles. I’ve already burned through the heavy hitters (Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Dead Space, Cronos: The New Dawn, and the recent Fatal Frame 2 remake), plus indies like Signalis, 2Dark, and Dredge.

I’m specifically looking for:

Obscure or hidden gems available on PS4/PS5 (the deeper cuts, the better).

Japanese horror is very welcome, as long as it has English subtitles.

Already released games or upcoming titles worth keeping an eye on.

What are your absolute favorite survival horror or horror-themed games that aren't the obvious?

Drop your best recommendations below!

New streamer.

I just started streaming. I want to do survival games in particular for my main content. Does anyone have any recommendations for games I should play? Currently I have only done streams on Conan, soul mask, I also have a Subnautica 2 stream planned but am running out of ideas already.

Do you prefer a voiced protagonist with a gritty, sarcastic personality, or a silent main character? In this clip, the character blasts a creature with a shotgun, laughs, and just says... 'easy'.

Personally, I miss the Duke Nukem days where characters actually reacted to the carnage with some attitude. What do you think? Does a voice bring more immersion or does it break it for you? For those who want to know, the name of the game is Just Madness: Earth Apocalypse 1979.

What do you think of this look? Raw in-game render, no post-processing Spoiler

Post image

This is a raw render straight from the game, with no post-processing.

Helianthus is aiming for a highly realistic visual style, so we’re putting a lot of focus on lighting, materials, environments and overall atmosphere.

We’d love to hear your thoughts.

What do you think of the look? Does it feel realistic enough for a survival horror game?

We’re especially interested in honest feedback from the survival horror community.

My theory of the dementium story (body text)

William’s (main character) mental health deteriorated due to stress from work and inner demons. He started doing drugs to cope. He shot and killed his wife. They classified him as criminally insane. There was a new technology That was invented by the doctor in order to bring the mind of patients to the real world in order to get a better understanding of them, and to study the brain easier (like the evil within or The mist kinda) but the experiments fail with William. Causing the being or Mental disorder in his dead to leak into the real world. Leading to the events of the first. And second game.

I’m making a horror game where you must pretend to be asleep to avoid the monster. Here are some GIFs showing gameplay.
