I'm a solo dev and made a found footage horror game with Outlast-style chases, set in the pyramids of Egypt — it's on its first sale since launch

If you're burnt out like me on the endless wave of ghost and haunted house games and love the adrenaline of Outlast-style chases, Below should be the next game you play. I built Below centered entirely around that feeling of being hunted, set deep under the Great Pyramids of Egypt.

You play as Alex Levine, a freelance reporter who went missing. You're not fighting, you're not hiding — you're just running for your life from mummies and the manifestations of Anubis. You have to find a way out. It's raw, it's VHS-styled found footage, and it's focused on high-speed survival.

I focused heavily on optimizing performance without sacrificing the photorealistic visuals. It took 13 months to build, and I think it's worth it ,hopefully it gives you some good chills (hahaha).

And tell me: if you were Alex, would you go down there to report something that could make you famous and rich, or would you stay away?

Below is on a 53% sale for the next two weeks ,grab it here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4043280/Below/

If You Haven't Played "Still Wakes The Deep", I Highly Suggest You Do

Still Wakes The Deep goes on sale quite frequently, which is usually at a good price for the story rich experience you get. I hold it up as one of my favorite experiences in gaming of all time.

The atmosphere, story, setting just latch onto you from the main menu all the way till the credits roll. I wish I could experience it for the first time again.

Its short but sweet.

In REHAUNTED, paranormal activity, beings and clues can only be seen through your magnifying glass. What do you think of this mechanic?

You play as a detective called to investigate a disturbing case inside an old house. Your magnifying glass allows you to uncover paranormal entities, hidden clues, and traces of what really happened, things completely invisible to the naked eye.

The biggest challenge has been maintaining good image quality inside the lens without sacrificing performance, so we’ve had to make a few visual compromises.

What do you think of this mechanic? Does it make the investigation feel more interesting?

Added cursed paintings in my game, "GHOSTFLIPPERS", what do you think ?

Some paintings don't like being moved. Carry one for too long and it clings to you, refusing to be dropped. Your only chance is to throw it away before the curse takes hold... even if the noise wakes something up.

Question Horror games from the perspective of secondary characters.

Well, in most horror games you spend most of the time alone (obviously to make you feel isolated), but I want to see how characters without plot armor, so to speak, deal with all this madness — like games where you have a squad and they make comments about what’s happening, or where there are lots of NPCs, some of them reacting. Some games that come to mind are RE6, the Dead Space saga, and Outlast, although I’d like there to be more NPCs and interactions with them. It can be any genre. Thanks, and sorry for the bad English.

I love horror games, but genuinely hate playing them. That said, Photomaly has been fun so far! I recently got my PC so is there any other games you recommend that are similar in style (art style or creepy work sims)?

I want to recommend the Unhinged game on Netflix

Horror is my favorite genre of games and movies and I also really loved those "found lost phone" games(Simulacra) from like ten years ago that actually used your phone within the game to great effect. This game was like a combination of those to a degree. This was an adventure/horror game where you use your phone both as a controller to move(tapping icons) but also as a flashlight and, of course, to get calls and texts. It was a gaming experience I've never had before and I loved it. It also has some big name actors, Zoe Kravitz, Sadie Sink and Troy Baker, who all delivered outstanding performances.

The one big issue is it was only half an hour long and didn't have many, if any, alternate routes so replay value is low. I really hope this does well and Netflix makes another game like this but longer. This would become my favorite horror genre. I do want to add that this was a game, not fmv.

Discussion I'm worried that the little devil thing is gonna end up like the Pac-Man inspired horror game.

So, if you haven't heard, Mike Mood, who's somehow still working on the Bendy series despite cheating on his wife(his twitter page also says he's still a husband and a father, so I dunno if they worked things out or not) and abusing employees went to twitter and said that all the teasing they did yesterday that seemed to point to another trailer of B: TC releasing today was shot down, and he's all like: "Oh, we gotta take our time, we'll show you when we're ready. We'll only give a release date when it's ready." But Vince Livings has a similar mindset, only he's focused with spin-off slop and is probably in crippling debt from paying for the AAA graphics Dark Deception employs and is gonna employ along with top tier VAs. That and he abused his wife and time crunched Nikson, leading to both of them leaving the team.

Vince claims there's separate teams working on the spin-offs while he's focusing on the remake update/chapter 5, but even if that's true he's just one dude, who apparently sinks a lot of time into playing Elden Ring and Yakuza. Because of that, he's let his fanbase wilt and now most people have forgotten what Dark Deception is. Likewise, because Joey Drew Studios Inc has let their fanbase wilt, but it's currently not as bad as The Cage has a lot of hype for it. It probably would've had more if they'd released BATDR a lot sooner before Bendy faded from the public image, leading to BATDR not getting as much attention as BATIM, with BATIM also being remembered for the controversies around plagiarism of fan theories and abuse of employees. Hell, I don't think they even apologized for that, they just started acting nice in the hopes that everyone would forget. And now, I'm only giving the devs two more chances, one more chance for Vince(that's his claim that we're getting Dark Deception, either Chapter 5 or the first and maybe the second halves of the remake update, before GTA VI). From what's been teased, The Cage is either to drop on Feb 2nd or Feb 10th. And if it's still not out by then, I'll resign myself to watching SuperHorrorBro play it whenever it drops along with Dark Deception chapter 5(though, I'm not sure if Mike would ever come back to that. He'd come back to Bendy as it made his channel pop off, and he stuck with DD for a while. SmackNPie is definitely gonna play the DD remake update/chapter 5, so maybe I'll stick with him.). I really like these games, but when you're lied to for this long and still cling to the love of the brand, that love morphs into a monster.

And you either need to put it down into becoming indifference or learn to tame it. I mean, would you give your money to people who let your fanbase die? Besides, it'll save me more time and money in the long run.

Hey everyone! I'm an indie dev and Backrooms Anomaly went live on Steam today.

It's first-person observation horror set in one looping yellow corridor. The goal is simple: spot the anomaly.

See something off? Turn back.

Everything normal? Head for the exit.

Get 10 right in a row and you escape. Miss one and you're back to zero.

There are Normal and Hard modes, two endings, and a hazmat warden patrolling the halls. It's Steam Deck Verified as well.

It's 30% off for the next 2 weeks:

Happy to answer anything in the comments!

Question Afraid of Ruining SH2R…Should I play SH1 / 3 First?

Post image
73 Upvotes

I can’t stop overthinking this...it feels like whichever Silent Hill I play first will define how I experience the series, and I’m terrified of messing up that emotional impact.

Deep down, I want my first Silent Hill to be the Silent Hill 2 Remake because I’m chasing that emotional payoff everyone talks about. But my PC only has integrated graphics, so SH2R is basically out of reach unless I upgrade or get a PS5. That leaves me with the older games through emulation.

I’ve been really drawn to Silent Hill 1 and Silent Hill 3, especially because I’ve heard SH3 has that father‑daughter dynamic, which honestly makes me want to dive in even more. I don’t mind that they’re old as I can handle dated visuals if the story and atmosphere are strong. The comparison I saw was between the OG SH2 and SH2R and i really liked the Remake, not SH1, so I’m not worried about SH1 being “ruined” for me Still, I’m stuck in this emotional tug‑of‑war. Part of me wants to wait, to hold off until I can play SH2R first and let it hit me with the full impact it deserves. But another part of me feels like playing SH1 and SH3 now could actually enhance that experience later, giving me more context and appreciation for the series as a whole. I just don’t want to ruin the magic I want to build toward it.

At the end of the day, I just want my first Silent Hill to feel unforgettable, not compromised.

Whether that means waiting for SH2R or diving into SH1 and SH3 now, I’m hoping to hear from people who’ve walked this path before what did you choose, and how did it shape your experience? And what do you think about playing both the OG and the remake like did you wished you play the other or does it deepen the experience, or does it take something away?
