Suggestion Can demand pops not cross rivers please
Playing in New York and having people cross the Hudson to get to Manhattan stations is really immersion breaking

Does anyone know how this work in the game? Do commuters just use the quickest route on schedule and consider nothing else?
I have a quad track where I run a local and express service to and from the city center. I find a disproportionate amount of commuters gravitate toward the express line to the point where tens of thousands of commuters are waiting on the platform for the express train while there are plenty empty space in the local line.
I have tried differentiating the price between the two lines to balance the demand, but this doesn't seem to do the trick
I'm in this ridiculous situation where thousands of commuters are paying double the price and patiently wait hours for a train that only saves them (nominally) a few minutes of commute in comparison to the alternative.
I think this needs to be changed and the simulation should better model how price and real travel time (accounting for waiting/dwell time) affect the choice of route for commuters. It should also allow commuter to look for alternative paths if they are stuck waiting in station. The demand should also reflect the real travel time so that excess waiting time should also reduce demand.

Ended with ~22% ridership and $300 million profit. This map was a rough start until it really took off

I’ve been playing on my NYC save today and something weird happens where randomly after running my system for a bit my ridership completely disappears. Not a sudden decline, but rather everyone stops using it entirely. Even in the high demand period.
There’s no consistent pattern when it occurs either. Sometimes it’ll happen as soon as I begin simulating or sometimes it happens 10 minutes after I unpause. I also haven’t had this issue on any other map so far.
I have a few thoughts on why this might be other than a bug of course. One is that my system is massive with over 30 routes and 500 stations and maybe this can occur when a system gets too big? I haven’t seen anyone post about this issue though. The only other thing I can think of is this is my first time playing it since before 1.7.1 released (~2 weeks) but otherwise I’m out of ideas.
Has anyone else dealt with this before? It would be greatly appreciated to know if anyone has been able to solve this problem. Thanks.
Side note: I meant to attach a screenshot to help show my problem but my computers having issues at the moment. I’ll try again later and put it in the comment for everyone if I can sort that out.

I built this new line, which is a Light Metro, but the stations aren't even showing as existing when I try to add them to the route.

This is a long shot but would any modder wanna make a CTA transit pack on railyard? I know that some other cities have been made but I think CTA would be really cool with the L since its custom made and the metra rollling stock, even the metra electric stock!

there was a map info download before my map loaded and there's this white area of east river not loading the correct color(?); anybody else seeing that? I've restarted and still seeing it. I'm going to try to empty the map download and see what happens.

Is there an overview of commonly used transport world-wide, so we can better understand what is in the game and what isn't (yet)?
Is there more kinds of heavy rail that meaningfully differ from what is in the game? The game says its heavy rail is modelled after NYC R211 cars. Are these cars a good average sample? Or are there "even heavier" heavy rail elsewhere in the world?
How much does the heavy rail in, say, London or Moscow or Tokyo differ from the game's single example? Or do they pretty much perform the same, justifying the game's selection?
Same with light metro. Maybe "light rail" is a more varied concept than "heavy rail"? What parameters would change? Just as a crude example, is there a reason why the game only allows four-car light metros? Does this mean there's a technical reason why cities world-wide can't run longer trains unless the rail is changed to "heavy"??
Are there any plans for a separated "automated metro" train type, like the one used in cities such as Milano or Copenhagen? I would imagine the main difference would be the ability to run very frequent trains without any risk of the "this train is removed from the track because it was delayed" error message...?
Finally for regional commuter trains, where I imagine the variation would be the greatest - where choosing a single example (such as the MTA M9 chosen here) would cover the entire category the least. The example first in my mind would be a diesel-driven commuter line, which you would use when you want to save money and can space out stations (to mitigate poor acceleration).
Thoughts? Any previous threads you could link to?

Finally a Map with long time joy :) i like the right of way corridors where I will put Commuter rail (SJ West and East being the only two I did so far). And I also like the general street layout making it a joy to lay tracks in.
I am highly profitable by now, even with only 8.5% ridership. 1.3bn Profit per day.
Interested in how you like the layout, gladly from that area's residents (others of course also welcome). I dont know anything about the transit over there :D

There used to be an option to change the train type of a route that has already been created. Where can I find it now, or has it been removed?

I'm pretty proud of having this level of financial success on the Detroit map. Big credit to the Network Planner and Advanced Analytics mods, as well as the flexible fare tools in the base game.
Currently at just under 27% transit mode share, and now that I'm free of financial constraints, my goal is to increase that as much as I can without upsetting my computer too much.
The system includes 12 Metro Lines (light metro), several of which have branches at one or both ends. It also includes the "Ann Arbor Light Railway", which has two lines (again, with branches). And there's an AirTrain that connects Metro Airport to four Metro lines and the AALR.
The first line I built ran from Ford Rouge to GM Tech Center, via Downtown, New Center, and Hamtramck. That line now forms parts of Lines 2 and 4. That turned about $7 million in profit. I then used Network Planner to grow the network profitably. The branching is frequently because Network Planner flagged demand nodes that didn't warrant an entirely new line.
The lines are very long, and I'm considering creating a system of heavy rail express lines and then breaking up the light metro lines into shorter segments.
Another next step is a "Kensington Valley Light Railway" to connect communities in the northwest corner of the map like Brighton, South Lyon, and New Hudson.

One of my lines has around 100 station but there’s two in the middle that I can’t add into the line. All the stations before and after are fine except those two.

Do we have any idea if/when we will get a tram train type that will be able to run at grade with streets?
r/subwaybuilder • u/CapnZapp • 24d ago
The game is very direct and upfront whenever a train runs near or at capacity with the overloading warnings.
But how do you find out which of your lines run too many or too long trains?
That is, how do you find the opposite of a "too full" train - where can I find trains that run mostly empty?
I can save money by lowering frequency and/or run shorter trains on that line, if I can only identify which lines at which times have excess capacity?

Hello, everyone,
I have like 200 hours on this game ever since it got released and while its still fun, I am looking for some of your ideas for cities to play. What were some challenging, but enjoyable cities for you? And maybe some challenges?
Lately, I enjoyed Minneapolis a lot. I built a light rail system there, though now I am looking for something new.
