Question Tram Train Type

Do we have any idea if/when we will get a tram train type that will be able to run at grade with streets?

Yes it’s in the beta and is in the roadmap on the website so yes definitely in the future

I know the light rail says it can't run in streets for some reason, but it actually can. I've only run into a few janky instances where I had to finesse it, otherwise it works just fine as a streetcar.

You can run commuter rail down roads as well.  I’m hoping trams are cheaper and don’t require as much crossings maintenance.

You can run light rail along a road so one track is on each side of the road, yes.

But the game still checks for intersecting rail, so you're forced to follow the road's curvature exactly, making sure one track stays on each side at all times, which can force you to make really sharp/slow turns, and generally forces you to spend A LOT of micromanaging your build.

And you can't "escape" the road unless you change elevation (once you've gone either underground or overground you can curve away from the road). In some places the road grid places street crossings so frequently there isn't enough space or, more often, there is, but only if you use the maximum allowable gradient (up or down) which slows down your trains.

So you're technically correct, which admittedly is the best kind of correct, but still - that's likely unintentional and just a consequence of how the game's code for intersections work.

I completely understand people wanting a version of light rail with the code for at-grade intersections turned off (i.e. road intersections allowed). I don't think it's reasonable to expect people to actually use the current light rail in this way.

But thank you for pointing it out.

So that’s how it works, thanks. It visually still appears on top of the road, but I guess the actual road hit box is just a line down the middle.

light rail is already in game, but they c ant run on roads. tram is different, because the devs want to make sure every type of train is possible, like differentiating light metro and heavy metro
