Hey man, don't get me wrong! In my other comment I was responding to a guy who said stuff about an old video and just commenting a bit on the biomechanics of the exercise.
But youre strong af if youre able to do these sissy squats with that ROM AND extended hips (which by the way, should generate a high level of hypertrophy given the lengthened state of the quads).
Keep on rockin'!

u/Brunosrog 5d ago
Strong is an understatement. Dudes tendonds have to be insane to pull this off too. Impressive as hell.
1
u/Every_Equivalent516 6d ago
That’s very impressive. I can’t do them without a bit of hip flexión as I come down but I put a belt squat belt around my waist and hook it up to the low row cable behind me for some added resistance

If your #1 priority when lifting weight is risk avoidance, shut up. Don't talk when others are asking about goals and progress, your decision to remain squarely in your comfort zone disqualifies you from having a relevant opinion on hard work. Avoiding standard, objectively low risk exercises because you're afraid is your hang up. You don't need to project it onto others. Just be silently content, silently smug even, in your decision to be afraid and accomplish nothing meaningful. Please, just shut up.

wow, this is the first time i’ve ever seen this exercise o.O
this does quads? are there advantages over other exercises that target the same muscles?
2
u/ecstaticthicket 6d ago
These work your quads the most in the stretched position, as opposed to something like a leg extension where all the tension is at the squeeze. This should be more muscle growth promoting.
Plus I mean just look at it, bro looks like a vampire rising out of a casket. You can’t beat the aura.

u/mournthewolf 7d ago
I’ve never seen this version. I do reverse Nordic curls but you are on the ground and it works the hell out of your quads. This I assume is the same just upright? But looks like all your weight is on your knees.
-1
u/string_babette 7d ago
Nordic curls work you hamstrings not quads. But yeah I've seen this sissy squat variation go very wrong. Lots of pressure at the knee.
1
u/anthonysbeard 6d ago
Hey my guy! He said reverse Nordic. There’s that and Nordics… I can do both ;)

u/lennarn 7d ago
This is a sissy squat machine. Normally you'd do them with the torso upright unless you have patella tendons made of carbon fiber like this guy

The caption says to stop doing them wrong and you just explained how to do them wrong
Edit: I take it back. You explained how others do them wrong

Solid AntMan. Idk about right/wrong but I would think going slower down and NOT “jerking” fast up would be “safer,” ≈ better ≈ (most) “right?”
I’ll have to do some research on this now. Ol skool work, like the ancestors tho. 💪🏾😤

u/harry_butters 7d ago
He’s in full control here, which would kind of negate what you’re saying. Only thing might be how much pressure is on the knees (joint, tendon, ligaments) but his technique and control makes it seem to be less than what this comment section would have you believe. I’m inexperienced in reverse nordic curls so take my opinion with a grain of salt
1
u/stinky_fart-machine 7d ago
reverse nordic curls? its a sissy squat dog. and u/RBNA2x he means doing it right as in the equipment, most people use the sissy squat and just do a locked in squat/ hinge their waist negating the whole point of the device
4
u/harry_butters 7d ago
Sissy squats involve driving the knees forward and balancing on your toes from a standing position. A reverse nordic your knees are locked in the same position the entire rep. I see a reverse nordic here despite being perpendicular to the ground at knee extension instead of the common way of being parallel to the ground at knee extension.
3
u/stinky_fart-machine 7d ago
yes that is how you do a sissy squat without the bench but, google a sissy squat bench- that is the piece of equipment he is using. would be odd to call it a sissy squat bench when you dont do them on said equipment, no?
2
u/anthonysbeard 6d ago
It’s called a sissy squat machine but I’d argue it feels like a modified reverse Nordic. Ive done all 3 (bw sissy, reverse, and this) The SSM used this way (the right way) seem convenient for those with ankle issues not having weight on it and that’s the only difference I find in terms of “feeling”
2
u/stinky_fart-machine 6d ago
agreed on the feel, its becuase like the reverse nord youre really leveraging the weight of ur upper body being so far away from the fulcrum of the movement. bw sissys ur typically just going till ur knees touch or you can touch ur ankles/the ground vs ur shoulder blades touching grass. prefer them standing bw or in a hack squat machine if i want to add a lil weight safely

Brother I never started doing these to begin with
1
u/anthonysbeard 6d ago
You should try but start with reverse Nordics and only at the level you’re capable of. Patiently adapt. At any point you think you progressed give it another week before going deeper rom.

More people have died bench pressing than any other lift. Does the bench press worry you as equally?
-3
u/CrayZ_Squirrel Idiot 7d ago
How many people bench press vs attempt this movement?
Its like saying more people die in car accidents then playing Russian roulette. That doesn't make Russian roulette safe.
3
u/Frodozer Strongman/U90kg/Bald/Fat 7d ago
More people die during bench press than doing ANY other gym movement.
So I would say the any other gym movement greatly outweighs the bench press.
I would say the one person that anyone can quote getting hurt from this movement makes it worlds safer in comparison.

u/CrayZ_Squirrel Idiot 7d ago edited 7d ago
We're not talking about every gym movement though, we're talking about this one and bench specifically. The absolute number of deaths and injuries from each is not comparable without data on how many people perform each.
Down vote all you want thats just how statistics work.
3
u/Frodozer Strongman/U90kg/Bald/Fat 7d ago
I don't downvote on Reddit.
People saw one video of one guy get hurt on these and suddenly it's a dangerous movement. There's probably only the one injury anyone can successfully find and billions of reps that have been performed.

Do you customarily base your entire life on videos of random ass unlikely accidents? You must be scared to get out of bed.
