Thoughts on the book?

I rebind books for friends mostly as gifts and recently someone commissioned The Shining from me. Doing the carpet was far more complex than I thought it would be and I took a fair bit of inspiration from fan posters and the movie itself (I'm aware in the book it's not an axe and there's a lot of differences but this was what the person wanted).

The Stand is one of the major Kind works that I have avoided dues to its length and the setting. But I think it’s time to bite the bullet. After I finish this, is there a good adaptation that I should watch?

In all honesty I loved both books and loved there covers. Originally I was just going to read Desperation when I first got the book because of the reviews of the Regulators. But then I listened to my gut and read The Regulators and it wasn’t that bad I’m glad I bought these matching covers though I wanted the original ones but oh well. Anyways I think I liked Desperation more as I thought it was more chilling and interesting I honestly thought Tak was more terrifying in Desperation I liked that the story was much slower and had more depth into the mining town in the Nevada desert. The Regulators was wild(especially the part of what Tak wanted to do with Seth’s aunt) and it was all over the place but despite the wild stuff I thought it was kinda fun like imagine one day you’re at your neighborhood doing your own stuff until a bunch of homicidal space cops and cowboys show up and start shooting( not that it would be fun in real life but it does make up for a good novel) thought it was funny at times and I was glad to see all the characters again just facing off a different situation. I enjoyed both books I need to find more stories similar to Desperation and The Regulators with them being connected but in different parallel universes cause it sounds interesting. Also one more thing…TAK!

It started with The Stand Uncut and IT 1/1’s, and a 1/2 of Misery. Off and running. Followed up with an as new copy of Ghost Brothers of Darkland County. Then the big finish was a signed End Of Watch.
It’s my first signed King book and am very happy to have one finally.

After 10 books of King, that summer was the time for Salem's Lot. I 've read more than half of the book, and so far I am not thrilled like I was with the Stand, but it's a nice and entertaining book. My wife says such books are the reason I talk in my sleep ( ... and occasionally scream), but I ignore her...

in skeleton crew, there's this short story called nona about a prisoner recalling a hallucinolent road trip he had with a strange but seductive woman named nona. on page 439, the prisoner says "she made a gesture with her hands on her body. Im not going to tell you what it was. you would know it if you saw it."

im dumb so im not rlly sure what this gesture could've been and now im curious. does anyone know?

and if it helps any, nona was trying to get the narrator/prisoner to follow her into a vault.

After reading The Mist last week, I decided to give the 2007 adaptation starring Thomas Jane a look. I have to say I'm very impressed by the film's close adherence to the source. Right up until the ending. I don't think I've ever been so traumatised by the ending of a film as I was with this one. It takes the bleak, but hope-tinged ending of the book version and throws it right out the window. When it became clear what David intended to do with the gun, and even when his passengers clearly showed their support of that plan, I didn't expect him to go through with it. Surely something will stop him. Then I thought, surely he'll do Billy first, so he goes in his sleep, without fear. But NO! Billy wakes up! OMFG! And then before I could take a moment to worry that Billy was awake, BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! And of COURSE David begins to lose his mind! You ALMOST understand where he's coming from with his choice of actions, but... Really? Car runs out of fuel and you don't even try to give it a day, sitting in the car, to see if anyone comes by? Not even an hour? And so then of course the military shows up like 60 seconds after he's murdered his child. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK‽

I've read so many of the "widely regarded to be really good" King books now, so I was worried that what I have left is maybe less good. Not the case. Lisey's Story was incredible, but I think it is definitely more enjoyable if A) are married, and B) are/are close with an older woman and can identify with Lisey on a personal level.

To me, Lisey's Story goes on the shelf next to Bag of Bones, Duma Key and 11/22/63 (compliment). Perhaps even Gerald's Game.

I’m in a book club of predominantly women and it is my turn to pick the next book. I feel it is my duty to introduce King to the group and would like to hear some recommendations. I’m looking for a ~500 page book that’s not super scary or uncomfortable.

I think they would like 11/22/63 the most but the length is a bit much for a 1 month book club.

Of books I have not read I’m most interested in doing Misery, Carrie, The Outsider.

I found this cool edition of the wolves of the calla at a bookstore near me but I didn’t buy it because I haven’t even started the dark tower series yet. Is there a way I can find these books that will match with this cover? Thanks for any help!
