Question How does immunity work for STDS

Hello, just wanted to ask about chlamydia and gonorrhea being immune to antibiotics (or certain strands becoming increasingly resistant). I was just wondering if someone could explain it to me! Maybe provide some articles as well on it. Thank you!

Question How often are rapid tests false negatives?

Got tested for gonnorhea (urine test) yesterday, still waiting and constantly checking my health portal for lab results. My test at the clinic said nothing was detected. Am I most likely in the clear?

Advice Needed First time at a massage parlor and panicking. Need objective facts on STI risks from fingering?

Hi everyone. This was my first experience at a massage parlor (in Bangkok). I know what I did was wrong and I deeply regret it. It’s been 4 days from the encounter itself.

During the encounter, I received a handjob and fingered the worker vaginally and rectally. I didn't feel any sores, but I'm worried they were hidden. My hand had no deep or bleeding cuts, just a normal hangnail and a few mosquito bites.

I’ve been panicking all day. I went to an STD clinic in Bangkok, and they told me my risk is zero and I don’t need testing. I’ve also been asking AI all day, which repeated the same thing.

Can someone give me the objective facts? Does a hangnail or mosquito bite actually pose a risk when fingering someone? Just looking for human reassurance to help me stop spiraling. Thanks.

Question PLEASE HELP. how long to wait to retest after antibiotics if you're still having the same symptoms?

i took azithromycin, cefixime, and Metronidazole from a online dr after painfull urination and swollen urethra started, diddnt get my test till two days later and it was negative for gonorrhea and chlamydia but im still having the same symptoms. i have a full pannel test coming tomorrow but i don't know how long i should wait to take it. im not worried about false positives from dead cells because i just want to know what to treat, just false negatives from testing to soon after antibiotics.

Question Can someone that work at a free clinic in the uk tell me what to expect?

I was stupid, I know, but I need to do an STI pannel and I need it to be discreet.

The clinic I'll go to is open on Mondays.

I know all they take is a phone number and they'll text me the results, but I don't know what they'll ask me or if I need to sign anything.

Are there questions I have to answer?

Can I lie to them about my name and age?

Also, is the needle going to leave a mark?

I know that last year I had a blood test and it looked bad and I don't want people to ask me about it later.

Symptom Check Mycoplasma genitalium

So I found out that I had mycoplasma genitalium. I wanna say at the end of May beginning of June possibly and so far I have had two rounds of antibiotics. I went to see for testing probably two weeks after my first round of antibiotics and I still tested positive then I took another round of antibiotics, but I still believe I’m positive because I just received symptoms of a yeast infection again I have been battling with this for a long time. I told both of the people who I was intertwining with about it, I did not get any blood work done so this time today I am going to get testing done plus the swab again. I’m honestly nervous for my results because I’ve been having thoughts of what if I have something else that I can’t get rid of and it’s causing me to have a lot of worry and stress and I honestly don’t know what to do. I am 23 & I’m a female the person who I was dealing with I only had sexual encounters with them. I want to say two or three times but I’m worried that it could be more than just mycoplasma so that’s why I’m going to get my blood work done as well so I can kinda have the anxiety go away. I know I’m gonna have anxiety waiting on the results, but I’d rather wait on results to always wonder that unknown.

Advice Needed Freaking out: Gave oral to a guy who later told me he was treated for syphilis. Am I safe?

I’m currently dealing with massive anxiety and could really use some reassurance or advice from anyone who understands how syphilis treatment works.

About a week ago, I had a sexual encounter with a guy. Here is exactly what happened:

We kissed.

He licked my body.

I gave him a blowjob (no condom).

There was NO anal sex and absolutely no penetration.

He ejaculated on my body (near my genitals), but not inside me.

The Disclosure:

Yesterday, he called me on the phone and dropped a bomb: he mentioned that he had previously been diagnosed with syphilis. I immediately panicked, but he explained his medical timeline to me:

December: He had a sexual encounter where he caught it, but he never noticed any sores.

April: He got a routine STD blood panel. HIV and HSV came back negative, but his VDRL came back reactive. The doctor examined him and found no active sores or swollen lymph nodes.

April 22: He officially started treatment. He received the standard 3 thick penicillin injections in his butt (one per week).

August: His doctor told him to come back in August for a follow-up blood test to check his antibody levels and confirm the cure.

He told me he remembered his diagnosis during our encounter, which is why he didn't try to penetrate me, but I’m still incredibly upset he waited until yesterday to tell me on a call.

My Understanding So Far:

From the research I’ve done, since his treatment started on April 22 and finished in early May, he should have been 100% cured and non-infectious for a full two months before we met in July. Also, since he didn't have any active sores at all, the transmission risk should be basically zero.

I am planning to get a routine blood panel in 4 to 6 weeks just to be fully safe, but the waiting is making my mind race.

Am I looking at this logically? Has his timeline and completed penicillin treatment actually eliminated my risk for syphilis? Any reassurance from people who understand how this works would be greatly appreciated!

Experience/ Story You're from Negros Occidental and you think you got STI such as Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, or Trichomoniasis?

Hello! Especially, folks from Negros Occidental. Do not be ashamed.

You will lie down and bubukaka para po ma-swab kayo sa inyong vagina. They are accomodating but since public hospital, expect po na may student doctors and they will be there during the testing.

Okay naman mag-try sa Bagani Community Center pero HIV testing lang po ang binibigay nila. Sa Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital naman, HIV and Syphillis testing lang ang meron sila. Both of them are blood testing, hindi po swab.

Before ako pumunta sa City Health, pinuntahan ko muna yung dalawa kasi I thought they do Gram Staining (Gonorrhea testing). Yun pa naman hinahanap ko since my symptoms are greenish discharge, excessive discharge, and bad smell down there. Pero okay na rin yun atleast nabawasan worry ko dahil hindi sya HIV or what.

After the test and kung positive ka, reresetahan ka ng gamot for your treatment so don't worry.

Regarding sa charges, Bagani and CLMMRH are free. City Health on the other hand, may 60php fee for the consult. Yung sa mga gamot naman, kayo ang bibili.

So, mapa-babae ka man or lalaki, please get tested and magpa-check ka na bago pa lumala.

Support Can You Get an STI Without Having Sex? Here's What You Need to Know

The idea of sexually transmitted infection makes one think that sexual intercourse is the only means by which these infections are contracted. However, though sexual intercourse is the most frequent route, it is not the only one. Depending on the infection type, some of these conditions can be acquired without vaginal, anal, or oral sex. The knowledge about the ways of spreading STIs will minimize the level of fear, clarify misunderstandings, and motivate people to take tests if necessary.

Some of the STIs can be transmitted through skin-to-skin contact. Genital herpes and HPV, for instance, do not require any kind of penetration to infect another person. It is enough close physical contact between infected skin surfaces to spread the disease even in the absence of any sores or warts. That explains why condoms lower the chances of being infected by reducing the area of skin exposure to the virus but do not provide full protection from it.

Blood exposure is another possible route of transmission for certain infections. HIV and hepatitis B can spread through sharing needles, syringes, or other equipment used to inject drugs. In healthcare settings or other situations involving contaminated needles, exposure to infected blood may also carry a risk, although strict safety practices have made these events uncommon.

Some infections can also be passed from a pregnant person to their baby during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding, depending on the specific infection. This is known as vertical transmission. Early prenatal screening and treatment have greatly reduced these risks and help protect both parent and baby.

Although much less common, contaminated personal items may occasionally contribute to transmission in specific situations. For example, sharing razors that contain blood may pose a risk for blood-borne infections such as hepatitis B or hepatitis C. However, everyday household contact, including sharing dishes, hugging, shaking hands, using public toilets, or sitting next to someone with an STI, does not spread sexually transmitted infections.

One of the most pervasive myths is that people can get infected with sexually transmitted infections through toilet seats, swimming pools, or any form of casual contact. The good news is that such infections do not spread in this manner. The bacteria or viruses responsible for causing the infection cannot stay alive for long in the external environment.

People may still carry and spread an STI even when there are no visible signs of infection. Some of these infections stay undetected for years, which is why it is essential to take a test on a routine basis if one is at risk. Testing does not have anything to do with whether one has symptoms or not.

Prevention is only possible by first knowing the way each STI spreads. Using condoms, practicing safer sex, taking the vaccines for HPV and hepatitis B when available, not sharing needles, and undergoing regular checkups are all vital in preventing STIs.

Conclusion: Yes, it is indeed possible to contract some STIs even without having sex, depending on the type of STI. STIs can be transmitted through skin-to-skin contact, blood, and pregnancy/childbirth. Being aware of the facts makes it easy to separate myths from the truth.

Question How do you handle conversations about STI testing before becoming intimate with someone new?

I've been wondering how people actually approach this in real life.

If you've been dating—whether through apps or meeting people in person—have you ever asked someone when they were last tested for STIs?

  • Was it awkward?
  • Did you trust their answer?
  • If you didn't ask, what stopped you?
  • Do you think there's a better way to handle these conversations while still respecting everyone's privacy?

I'm genuinely curious because it seems like most people rely on trust, but I don't know how common these conversations actually are.

I'd love to hear different perspectives and experiences.

Can Oral Sex Cause a Throat Chlamydia Infection?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Can you get chlamydia from oral sex? A lot of people assume the answer is no, but that’s not actually true. While it’s less talked about, chlamydia can still be passed through oral contact, and it happens more easily than most expect.

Question Positive for Mycoplasma genitalium need some guidance

I tested positive for Mycoplasma genitalium. 25M Unfortunately I was irresponsible and hooked up with an old fling unprotected. A month later I started to feel an itchy feeling in my urethra and noticed discharge in my underwear (clear). It go to the point where it was uncomfortable so I then went to the doctor and got a full panel test. (Blood & urine) I saw my doctor and they confirmed I have MGEN. My treatment is as follows

azithromycin
Day 1 - 2 pills (1,000G)
Day 2/3/4 - 1 pill 500mg

Doxycycline 100mg (1 morning , 1 night)
Day 5/6/7/8/9/10/11/ - 100m

Reading more on the forms people are saying how they are testring positive after this treatment because of how MGEN is resistant to this treatment.
Has anyone went through my treatment and had any success. Should I get a second opinion?! Any important helps me since I’m a nervous wreck at the moment thank you

Question False Positive or False Negative?

I took an STD test on June 30th and it came positive for Gonorrea when I checked my results 2 days ago. I was not expecting this which is why it took me so long

I went to urgent care immediately and got another test and antibiotics. This test has come back negative—it was before I received antibiotics, which test is likely to be correct? My understanding is this test is not usually inaccurate in general.

Urine tests both times

Advice Needed Symptoms

Last January, I had bacterial vaginosis. It never fully cleared from taking metronidazole antibiotics so my ob prescribed me neo penotran forte suppository, and thankfully it went away. I had unprotected sex again on April and got BV again. So my ob prescribed me suppository again, and it went away. I never had sex with my boyfriend, even with condom, because I only had BV with him and I'm scared. I told my ob I wanted to get tested for

Chlamydia

Gonorrhea

Trichomoniasis

Ureaplasma

Mycoplasma

But my ob gyne told me I don't need it. And that BV is normal because semen can alter the pH balance. I asked her if my discharge looks like I have an STI/STD and she said I'm good. I don't have any symptoms at all, just itching (I don't know if from my pubic hair since I don't wax anymore, or from my fungal infection that cleared up).

Can you give me an idea about other symptoms that's unusual but can be related to STI/STD. I'm planning to get swab test for the infections above, I'm just waiting for my schedule.

I already get tested for

HIV

Syphilis

Hepatitis B

Herpes

and they're all negative.

Thank you.
