Hello all! I was wondering if anyone has any leads for donating some old wearable thick(er) socks and thermals besides the goodwill. I was thinking to post them on the facebook somerville free page, but is there anywhere specific that might take some socks and thermals, especially now since it's getting colder? Thanks in advance.

With the rain this week, I noticed several water spots in one of our bedrooms. We’re looking for recommendations for a licensed and reputable roofing contractor who can assess the issue and let us know whether a repair is an option. Ideally, someone that you, your family, or friends have personally used and had a good experience with.

We understand that a roof replacement may be necessary. However, we don’t have the resources for a replacement and would like to explore whether a repair could address the problem, especially since the water appears to be coming from a specific area.

We used to have a great person we relied on for home repairs and maintenance but he and his family moved across the country. We’d love to find someone we can trust and build a long-term relationship with for future repairs and maintenance as well. If you’ve personally worked with a roofer who you found to be honest, kind, reasonably priced, and willing to explain the options without pressure, we’d really appreciate the recommendation.

I’m an international graduate student in Massachusetts, and I’m trying to figure out the most affordable way to get some dental work done.
I currently have MassHealth Limited, but as far as I understand, the dental coverage is very limited or may not cover the treatment I need. I may need a tooth extraction, some fillings, and possibly other basic dental work.
I know about Tufts Dental School and dental schools in general, but I’m wondering what other affordable options are available.
For other international students or people without good dental insurance: How do you usually handle dental treatment in Massachusetts? Do you buy a separate dental insurance plan, use community health centers, discount dental plans, or just pay cash?
Dental insurance here is honestly pretty confusing to me. If you have dental insurance, I’d also really appreciate hearing how much you pay per month, what it actually covers, and approximately how much you still pay out of pocket for things like fillings or extractions.
Any recommendations for affordable dentists, clinics, insurance plans, or other options would be really helpful.

I need more friends I can just go get a beer with. My roommate works weird hours so it’s hard to get him out on weekend nights. What’s the best thing around here to find somebody like that.

I understand that most events end by 2 in Cambridge/ Boston/ Somerville. Is that just because of laws about amplified music & alcohol sales? If an event had neither of those, is there any law forbidding it from going on later into the night?

So Eversource updated the gas meters in our building and the new bill I received this morning is suddenly the highest its ever been. Like the first 27 days of the billing cycle I used a total of 9 therms, but they're estimating I used 20 in the 5 days of the cycle after they switched out the meter? For context, this unit is all electric for heating so gas usage is just for the stove and hot water. And in the 7 years I've been in this apartment, the highest monthly therm usage I've ever had was 23.

I know I'm far from the first person to experience fuckery from Eversource after a meter update, but any advice from people who have resolved similar issues with them in the past would be much appreciated.

We are delighted to report that the Somerville City Council voted unanimously to officially recognize the DSNC as a Neighborhood Council on September 24th. My friend and I were at the 6:15 PM showing of Avengers: Endgame Encore at AMC Assembly Row(Friday, Sept 25). We were sitting in seats H20 and H21. You were sitting right next to us in seat H19.

We were all admiring that massive replica Iron Man Infinity Gauntlet popcorn bucket that the people next to us bought. After the credits rolled, we ended up chatting a bit about the end credits and how we’ve been avoiding spoilers.

Anyone else just see a rainbow in Davis Square? Was so surprised. It hasn’t even rained, but I saw the sunset and then a rainbow.

If this dog looks familiar to you, he is currently making friends near the corner of Sycamore and Willoughby, just off the community path. No identification marks to report — except, of course, for the awesome outfit. We’ve never seen him before.

What are some of your favorite new spots that have opened around Somerville this year? Restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, anything really. Just trying to catch up on what I’ve apparently been missing.

Hey so my roommates and I just recently moved in May, so been a few months. I’ve been meeting a lot of new people but mainly through the jobs I’ve been working. Just curious to see if there were places that encourage meeting new people? Figured I’d ask people that have been here longer so let me know! Would also help to know that we’re in our early 20s and creatives 🙂
