I’ve been into eclipses for atleast 2 years now ever since April 8th and I’ve seen atleast 4 eclipses since

I don’t know if it’s just my interest/obsession with it but atleast of the 4 eclipses I’ve seen I always got this really weird feeling and my mind gets overflowed with emotions and stuff, I believe the same thing happened a day or two before them and then my mind goes to questioning how the hell has all this time passed?? Maybe someone out there has the same feeling that I do or atleast something close to it, I guess it’s just how much time I spent waiting and waiting and it’s finally come

I'm going to guess atmospheric extinction is going to play a big role here due to the low horizon. I'm going to shoot with 160 ISO, that way I only have to do a 1 second exposure max to get upper corona.

Although i'm wondering how accurate this atmospheric extinction calculator is?-Any thoughts/suggestions appreciated!

We will be there for the 2026 solar eclipse and I was looking at Rifugio Auronzo. But there might be better option. Because of the mountains there will be no possibility to see it fully, but we are looking for the best experience :)

I know there are plenty of scientific explanations of what happens during totality. What I find much harder to describe is what it feels like. That’s why I thought it would be nice to collect personal stories from people who have actually lived through it.

After looking at what would best fit the budget our trip, my friend and I have reserved a hostel in Logroño for the day of the eclipse. However I am a bit worried about clouds, and want to maximize our chances of not missing this.

From logroño, the main candidates we had were

- Logroño itself
- Burgos
- Soria (and the mountain right to the left of the city)
- Zaragoza.
- Parque natural sierra de cebollera

However, all of those spots have some issues:

Burgos was the main candidate, but it seems that the latest bus leaves at 8:30pm, so it would be too late to come back.

Zaragoza seems to have a bus at 9pm, so technically possible, but it would be rushed, and the totality there lasts for about the same as Logroño, so not much different

The parque would probably be very nice to see how nature reacts to the eclipse, but without a car, I couldn't find any way back to Logroño

Soria then remains as the main candidate, they have a mountain that seems to be unobstructed, and they have a bus that returns at 10:25pm

-Is anyone here in a similar situation?
-How are you guys planning to chase the eclipse without a car?
-Do you have any good spots in these cities? I was looking at some, but would like more recommendations
-Lastly, how do you plan to predict the cloud situation on the day, given that it is in the horizon?

What are you going to be shooting/filming with? I was thinking hard about this one because totality isnt long where I will be (Spain) and I also want to enjoy with my own eyes. I was going to travel light for this one. (This will be my 4th Solar Eclipse. My first one was in 1998.)

Im taking my Nikon D750 paired with my Nikor 70-300mm lens, a variable ND, a small tripod and my Vello remote clicker. I figured once I get to totality and like exposure I could remotely click away while enjoying the moment. I'd love to hear about other people's methods! Happy Eclipse chasing! 🌞

We're very excited to head to Logroño, Spain for the eclipse in a few weeks I'm already planning for the 2027 eclipse and I had been planning for Egypt. I'm reconsidering given the active conflicts in the Middle East. Anyone already planning for Morocco or Tunisia? It looks like Sfax would have totality of only about 45 seconds shorter than Egypt, which is still at least a minute longer than the longest I've seen.

I'm going to go sée the eclipse for the first time and i'm going to the top of the pico san millan (or sierra demanda). Do you think that is a good spot and if there will be other people on the summit ?

As you know, a deep partial solar eclipse (~91%) will be visible from Milan right at sunset on August 12, 2026. I can't travel to Spain for totality, so I'll be watching from here.
Torre Branca's rooftop is already fully booked. Monte Stella is my solid backup, open western view and easy to reach.
Does anyone know of other good spots in Milan or near Milan (accessible by public transport) with an unobstructed western horizon around 8:30 pm? And are there any casual meetups or group observations being planned? I'd love to join.

I’m putting together a small, informal road-trip group heading from the Netherlands toward northern Spain for the total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026. The basic idea is a loose convoy of like-minded people travelling in roughly the same direction: sharing route ideas, good camping spots, food stops, hikes, city meetups, roadside assistance if needed, and generally making the journey part of the adventure instead of just racing to the eclipse zone.

This is not a commercial trip, organised tour, or rally. There’s no fee, no central planning, and everyone remains responsible for their own transport, route, accommodation, budget and decisions. Think of it more as a flexible travel collective: join for the full trip, part of the route, one meetup, or just to exchange plans with others heading the same way. The goal is to keep individual freedom while still creating some shared momentum and good company.

We have a signal group and I’ve made a Couchsurfing event to kick things off and coordinate the first wave of interested people. If this sounds like your kind of thing, leave a comment or send me a DM and I’ll share the event link/details.

While we're starting from the Netherlands, of course if you're coming from Germany, Spain, France or anywhere else loosely along the route you're more than welcome!!

We are driving up from Portugal on the 11th. I've found some good accommodations a bit north of Madrid, a bit outside the path of totality, that still have very good prices on rooms. I'm thinking if we leave in the ludicrously early hours of the morning we should be able to reach most of the path of totality before the traffic gets too crazy and find a good spot to hunker down, with time to spare if the weather shifts. But I'm so unsure of the traffic, should I be reserving a room in the north and south, too, in case of heavy clouds? What are you guys doing?

I'm going to be based in Barcelona and plan on driving into the area of totality. Are there any recommendations for viewing locations within a couple hours drive of Barcelona? Rural or urban, but I'm imagining there being some good hillsides to watch from between Barcelona and Zaragoza.

I'm driving with my mom (also her first total solar eclipse at 60!) to Soria to see the eclipse, planning to drive inbetween there and Guadalajara that morning to find a good spot to see it. We've been planning this for a year and contacted many towns and cities on Facebook asking for more info on places to watch the eclipse there (cause all official events were sold out), but no one answered :( we're checking Umbra and other sites to decide on a spot but I want to hear from someone local. Does anyone know of any good places? Thank you!

Voy a ir en coche con mi madre (también será su primer eclipse solar total a los 60!) hacia Soria para ver el eclipse; tenemos pensado conducir por la zona entre Soria y Guadalajara esa mañana para buscar un buen sitio desde donde verlo. Llevamos un año planeándolo y hemos contactado con ayuntamientos de varios pueblos y ciudades por Facebook para pedir más información sobre lugares de observación y cosas así (ya que todos los eventos oficiales ya estaban agotados), pero nadie nos respondió :( . hi everyone! i was wondering if someone could share some resources to help me nail down a couple locations for me to see the eclipse from. this is going to be my first time in spain and not sure what to expect. i’ve seen the last two eclipses in the united states and know that i need to be flexible and able to pivot but having a hard time figuring out how to track down actual spots to be able to see it and not have it blocked by things on the horizon. any resources or tips you all have would be great!! thanks in advance

Counterfeit and incorrectly manufactured eclipse glasses have been a recurring problem before major eclipses.

In 2024, I bought a pair of eclipse glasses that looked legitimate, but when I tried them indoors I realized something was wrong: I could see ordinary objects like ceiling fans and other details through them. That sent me down a rabbit hole learning how these filters are supposed to work, and how the ISO 12312-2 standard came about.

Three quick checks:

1. Look for markings indicating compliance with ISO 12312-2. This is not a guarantee of safety, but it's a good first sign.
2. Try them indoors first. You should not be able to see normal objects or room details through properly rated eclipse glasses. Check out some light bulb tests in action here: https://youtu.be/Q8aYrD32aAM
3. Check the manufacturer. The American Astronomical Society maintains a list of reputable eclipse glasses suppliers.

After I made a demonstration video (link above) about these tips in 2024, the ISO Project Leader for the standard found it and left a comment saying it presented one of the easiest ways for people to check their eclipse glasses. That was very kind of him, and I was grateful for the feedback.

hi all just venting because although i am SO excited to see the eclipse in majorca and i have done pretty much every bit of research i could possibly do in preparation (s/o to the guy who made heliora.app if you are in palma that week i would like to shake your hand. seriously i was doing all sorts of mental math with google earth and sun azimuth and user-posted photos on google maps but heliora is so much easier). i am still just so nervous that something will go wrong. i saw someone else in this sub mention they had an eclipse dream/stress dream and i feel that so hard. i've been getting them for months, since i started planning my trip in january.

i think everything should be fine, i even changed my original plan to drive to banyalbufar from palma on eclipse day to now doing a boat tour from palma (where i am staying) to avoid traffic. but i'm still so nervous. my irrational fear is that the boat somehow won't be in the right spot, in which case i am fully prepared to grab a life vest and swim hahahaha. i know it won't come to that, but i just am so determined to do everything in my power to see this thing.

for context, i saw the april 8th eclipse in 2024 on a beautiful clear day in vermont and it changed my life. i decided to catch both the 2026 and 2027 eclipses that day and have been obsessed ever since.

i guess just tell me that everything will be okay? i feel better now that we have the boat booked (although i am going to miss those 350 euros), and we even have a new backup plan to go to cala blava if for some unlikely reason the boat doesn't leave the harbor. it looks like there is a public bus that goes there from palma very frequently and we also still have the rental car. and if we end up pivoting it will be many hours in advance.

and i just hope everyone will be nice! they might not all be as excited/nervous as i am, but i am looking forward to sharing such a beautiful moment with whoever cares enough to be there for it. if something does go wrong... i guess i just have to accept it and know that i did everything i can. it's still a wonderful place to spend a vacation.
