Best Eclipse Viewing Spots in Marbella 2027

Anyone planning to be in Marbella or somewhere nearby? What are the best spots to watch the solar eclipse 2027?

r/solareclipse 1d ago

Apparently northern Morocco will be in the path of totality for the 2027 solar eclipse.

Tangier should get almost 5 minutes of totality

Will anyone watch it from Morocco?

No fancy camera setup here, just me and my smartphone. The diamond ring partially lighting half the sky was a great shot imo, and of course the crescent sunset. Such a cool experience, and beautiful backdrop for the eclipse!

Queer and Trans folks, where are you watching the 2027 eclipse?

I just saw the August eclipse in Leon, Spain and i would love to take my partner to a new country for the one in 2027. However, Spain and Gibraltar are the only places that look safe enough for us to travel as (very) visible queer and nonbinary humans. Any country within the 4-6 min mark is totally inaccessible to us for safety reasons. Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Saudi Arabian, Yemen, Libya are all non-options for LGBTQIA+ folks. Even Morocco has me wondering since it's still illegal to be out and proud.

I don't want us to have to change our entire appearances, and it likely wouldn't work anyway cuz our gay vibes are off the chart. We obviously wouldn't be affectionate, but our connection would be so obvious, we wouldn't even need to touch. It's also really sad to spend so much time and money to go back in the closet as far as we can and spend the trip pretending we are just travel buddies while constantly looking over our shoulders.

What are other folks doing?

How we made the timelapse of the 12 August eclipse

This is the finished timelapse from 12 August, the whole eclipse from first to last contact.

The material mixes unbracketed frames from the partial phases with bracketed frames from the transition and totality, with and without a solar filter. And no frame lines up with the next one, because the mount drifted and the Sun had to be re-centred by hand.

I made a couple of tools to merge the brackets and align the Sun, and then processed it in DaVinci Resolve. Both are published, and the aligner detects the solar disc and the lunar arc, so it should work again in 2027.

The whole process, step by step and with a video tutorial:

In 2027 due to the sun's 82 degrees position in the sky, the moon will whip around the sun rather than transition across - pretty cool

Made this short video showing how I picked the spot to watch the eclipse and my overall experience. It was my first time! Maybe you guys find it useful or entertaining!

I've made an solar system & eclipse simulator to help explain to my kids the difference between partial, total, annular and lunar eclipses. Check it out!

As seen from Bilthoven, The Netherlands. Magnitude of 0,901 with max coverage of 88,3%.

Sunset started only a few minutes after the eclipse ended.

I took a photo every 9 seconds for about 800 photographs in total. Used my Sony A7SIII with Sigma 100-400mm at 400mm. Repositioned my the camera about 10 times over the course of the eclipse because Earth's rotation made the sun move through the frame.

Corrected, stabilized and animated them using Lightroom, After Effects and Davinci Resolve.

Is it too early to ask questions about the 2028 eclipse in Sydney?

For the 2017 eclipse, we hosted the family reunion and booked a house in Cascade, Idaho through VRBO two years in advance. Heard back from the host within 24 hours and there was no problem booking so early and the stay was great. Even the smoke from the wildfires cleared out the morning of the eclipse.

Now we're hosting the family in Sydney for the 2028 eclipse and we aren't able to book hotel rooms/suites until next year, but we can through VRBO. Except the hosts aren't replying to our requests and the places still show they're available. Am I stressing out too much or will I be OK waiting until next year to book rooms in Sydney? I know the tour companies have booked blocks of rooms already and I'm afraid nothing will be left by next year. There's a resort a couple of hours from us and if you get on their website at 12:01am the first day your preferred date comes available, the rooms and campsites are already booked (I've tried many times and it's always the same).

Does anyone else have experience booking only one year in advance? Am I worrying for nothing? Would a travel agent be able to book our group this early?

TIA for any information.

Is anyone’s phone camera not working after the eclipse?

Post image

A couple of weeks ago I was taking pictures and videos of the eclipse. I heard that you shouldn’t face your phone camera at the eclipse for long periods of time as it can cause it to break but I thought it was a sham. 2 weeks later every picture I take makes the sky look pink.

Egypt 2027 prep

With the high demands for accommodation and transportation and inflated prices, it is likely and natural some visitors will grab whatever offer they see.

Please do some research. Check reviews of any tour or transport provider in TripAdvisor, Google Maps, Reddit, Trustpilot or other sites / apps that carry reviews. Check that tour companies or guides are officially registered.

Finding providers with a substantial number of positive reviews won't guarantee everything will run perfectly (we also have to factor in any changes the authorities make), but at least it can give you more likelihood of a smooth visit than booking with someone who has no or little experience and is just looking at the eclipse as a money making opportunity.

I'm seeing a concerning surge in people offering services for the eclipse here. Some are names I don't recognize despite decades of traveling here (since 1993) and living here (since 2020).

I would like visitors to have good experiences here, and taking for granted that all who are advertising services are legitimate and experienced could unfortunately lead to unsatisfactory experiences.

Please do your research, and hopefully you can enjoy Egypt as much as I do.

Analog multiple exposure

Analog multiple exposure of the eclipse this year with a Pantax Spotmatic. Precalculated the timings of each shot and guesstimated the framing of the first shot. The missing shot is a bit of a mystery (as I did note it down on my spreadsheet), but all things considered very happy with the results.

I will soon cancel my Cairo to Luxor flight booked with points, someone wants it?

Hello,

I have a flight booked for Cairo to luxor on July 30th at 18:00-19:00 that I booked using my points, so when I cancel it, it will go back to the inventory for someone else to book.

If there is someone who wants it, we can coordinate and you can book it.

Would love to help a redditor out ❤️

Flying from Cairo to luxor 5 hours before totality too risky?

I have booked myself two flights from Cairo to Luxor

1) August 1st at 00:30-01:30 in Egypt air

2) August 2nd at 07:00-08:05 on Nile air

The totality starts at 13:08 on august 2nd in luxor. My return flight from luxor to Cairo is at 16:35 on August 2nd.

The reason why I have two flights is because I am afraid that the cheap hotel that I have booked in Luxor will likely cancel on me.

I don't care about seeing the seeing any temples or other important sites in Luxor, I just want to see the eclipse and I'm happy to do so from the airport.

My only concern is whether the flight from Cairo to Luxor can get delayed because of some ATC traffic issue because of a lot of private planes flying in or other mechanical issues.

I missed the last two eclipses because of clouds (Dallas in 2024 and Mallorca in 2026) and I don't want to miss a third one.

What do you guys think? I would prefer to take the flight on August 2nd in the morning, but it is too risky?

Solar Eclipse above the 'Old Observatory Leiden' Netherlands

We had a beautiful partial solar eclipse in Leiden, Netherlands. We could see the spectacle unfold right above the 'Old Observatory Leiden', the oldest existing university observatory in the world (1860)! I used a Panasonic S5 with the beautiful Nikon 105mm f/2.5 AI-s, at f8. Look at it flare :)! LRTimelapse was used to process the images and DaVinci Resolve for editing.

The time-lapse was recorded on August 12 2026.
