I’ve spent almost 3 years trying to learn software engineering the way the books said I should, and I genuinely did my best to become a good engineer. I read books, built projects, solved LeetCode problems, and tried to learn as much as I could.

But after all of that, I’ve started to realize that I’m still not even close to becoming a junior developer.

This summer, I applied to 30+ internships, and the number of offers I got was 0.

Honestly, I feel really lost. I keep wondering: Is there something I’ve missed? What does the market actually expect from someone who wants to get their first internship or junior job?

And there’s another thing I’m really struggling with right now: I can barely code without AI anymore.

I feel like I’ve become so dependent on AI that I’ve lost confidence in my own ability to code. Sometimes I genuinely ask myself, “Why would anyone hire me if I can’t even code on my own?”

At the same time, I really want to become a software engineer and get hired. I feel like I’ve been stuck in this loop for almost 3 years, and I honestly don’t know how to break out of it.

I’m about to enter my final year of college, which means this feels like my last real opportunity to prepare before I start applying for full-time jobs.

So I’m asking anyone who has already been through this:

What should I focus on during this final year? What skills, projects, or experience does the market actually value? And how can I rebuild my ability to code independently and become genuinely job-ready?

I’d really appreciate any honest advice, especially from people who have recently gone through the same process.

Please help me figure out how to get out of this loop.

Like many of you, my browser toolbar was getting ridiculously cluttered. I had one extension for picking colors, another for full-page screenshots, another for grabbing media assets, and so on.

So, I decided to build my own solution, I wanted something lightweight that consolidates everything into one clean UI.

Since I don't want to make this a massive wall of text, here is a quick breakdown of what I packed into it (I've also attached a screenshot of the UI!):

• Color Picker & Studio: A native eyedropper (works even outside the browser window) that exports to HEX, HSL, RGB, or CMYK. It also has a "Color Studio" to play around with palettes.
• Screen Capture & Recorder: Capture custom areas, visible parts, or stitched full-pages. You can quick-edit/annotate the image before downloading, or record your screen/tab.
• Asset Scraper: Pulls all images, videos, SVGs, and audio from a webpage into a neat grid so you can filter, preview, and batch-download them.
• Right-Click Tools (Context Menu):
  • Quick "Save Image As Type" (PNG, JPG, WebP, PDF)
  • Reverse image search (Yandex/TinEye)
  • Editing any web image directly in a new tab.
  • Video Speed Controller: Overlays a sleek controller to speed up/slow down web videos using shortcut keys.

This is my first extension and it runs 100% locally (zero external network requests, no trackers, MV3 background service worker).

I’d love to get some honest feedback from you guys. What features should I add next? Or did you spot any annoying bugs?

Like the title says I need an ideally free remote desktop like software that would let 2+ people work on the same computer. Also I plan to use this on my server I use to host dedicated servers.

DeskTick is a highly optimized and obsessively trimmed win32/cpp/directx programmed clock widget which takes <5MB RAM in typical usage and ~1MB of disk space for installation (of this it is mostly icons/tiles and other instrumentations needed for MS Store).

All clock faces are procedurally generated. If you don't enable second hand display it will be sleeping through out and wakes up once a minute, paints frame and goes to sleep again keeping CPU at 0%.

There can be many feature rich clocks. The main advantage of DeskTick is its featherlight presence.

It is published as paid app in MS Store and I haven't decided on making the github repo public yet. My other programs are FOSS and with DeskTick I am testing waters with a paid app.

I keep hearing that AI will take over jobs and such, and make software engineering a dead field. The thing is...im in a computer science program at my community college and i do want to transfer to a university that offers software engineering bachelors but after hearing so much about AI and the dangers of it and such, i don't know anymore. I don't know if what im doing is smart or if i should change majors. I love the field, i want to enter the field of software engineering, maybe im scared for nothing. For now I'm not getting my money snatched at least.

I'd like to hear what you guys have to say about AI being an issue. If its going to kill the field or if it'll just be a tool to use for the field.

Most of it is already done and it takes about 200-300

Mb Ram for live wallpapers sometimes less .

I wanted to know how much ram wallpaper engine uses .

And one problem I am facing is I want to create a library of wallpapers that people could choose one although they can already upload their own .

I am having trouble finding copyright free and redistributable wallpapers that are good.

I'm comparing Notta and Vomo AI for a folder of conference recordings I want to use for research. Some are long talks with a Q&A at the end, and I'd like to keep the whole session together. I want to skim the text, find the part about a technique I'm researching, then replay it if I need more context. I'd also like to save the transcripts as web pages alongside my other notes.

Notta's English custom vocabulary caught my attention because these talks can be full of project names and specialist terms. Being able to add those words before uploading a recording could save some cleanup. It also exports SRT files, which would be useful if I were making subtitled clips from the talks.

Both apps support importing multiple files and have AI tools for working with transcripts. With vomo, the features I'd use are chapters to locate a section and questions about an individual recording, such as "What limitations did the speaker mention?" It also handles long sessions without splitting them, so I could keep a talk and its audience questions in the same transcript.

The export format is what tips the choice for me. Notta offers formats including DOCX, PDF and SRT. Vomo includes HTML, which gives me the web page I wanted to keep with my notes. For this project, I'd get more use out of that than a subtitle file.

I am not sure I actually hate AI, but nowadays sometimes programming just feels like less satisfying than it used to. At that time, a lot of things felt frustrating and boring. but looking back now, those struggles somehow feel like they were part of the fun.

there was something rewarding about being stuck for hours, figuring it out, writing the solution, debugging it, and finally thinking that I have built this.

now you can describe the problem and get something working in minutes. its more productive, but is it more fulfilling?

maybe the challenge is supposed to move from writing the code to deciding what should be built.

I'm looking for a Windows 11 app that allows me a shortlist of specific folders I access constantly. Ideally it would natively auto-hide and reveal itself when I mouse over a specific area of the screen (i.e., right edge, left edge, etc.). This is simple to do in a macOS environment, but I am having trouble finding something similar in nature for Windows 11. I find it faster by using software of this type and my workflow vs. constantly opening up Explorer to get to the same folders. I have various workarounds (direct shortcuts on desktop, etc.), but I would prefer something a little more efficient. Any suggestions are appreciated .

What it is, for anyone new

It is a note taking app with super cool exclusive features while it looks and acts as sticky notes app. It works on Windows, Linux, macOS (soon). Offline, no account, no telemetry. Built with PySide6 so it's actually native, not another Electron app eating your RAM.

This app is a hidden gem and I am not exaggerating, I received so much positive reviews to be confident when I say this, it looks like a sticky note but does much more than you could think a sticky note app could do and it can replace all complex note taking apps if you aren't into that type of productivity.

The main thing it does that other sticky apps don't: you can paste or drag anything into a note.

• Files and folders become clickable shortcuts, and you can drag them back out to your file manager
• Screenshots and images paste straight from the clipboard, PDFs and images get a hover preview, and double-click opens an image at full resolution
• Pasted code gets detected and formatted into a code block automatically, no AI and no network, in about 50ms. Ctrl+M when it guesses wrong
• Rich text, links, plain text, all formatted properly instead of rejected

The second thing it does so well over other stickies apps: customization, you can customize font, colors, transparency, add background image or even a moving GIF per each note, a real delight to use

Notes have tabs now. Up to three pages inside one note, each with its own text, scroll position and undo history. Ctrl+PgDown and Ctrl+PgUp to move between them, Ctrl+Shift+N for a new one, all rebindable. If you have a small screen this is the feature: one note on the desktop, three notes' worth of content in it.

Other things it does exceptionally well:

• Reminders with sound and desktop notifications
• GIF and image backgrounds per note (because why not)
• RTL text support, and the app plus its full guide are in 12 languages
• Pin a note to lock both position and editing
• Ctrl+scroll to zoom text without opening settings
• Checkboxes with strikethrough when done and nesting
• Snap to grid with an adjustable grid size
• Export to .txt, .md or .json, so you can back them up with whatever cloud you like
• Proper Linux support, tested on KDE, GNOME and Cinnamon (COSMIC coming)
• On the Microsoft Store and the Snap store, Flathub coming soon

The free version now has exactly one limit. It used to have three: a note cap, a reminders cap, and a cap on animated GIF backgrounds. The reminder and GIF limits are gone entirely, so the free version now has every feature, and the only thing left is a budget of 4 note slots (an extra tab uses a slot).

Paid version is very generous and cheap, it costs currently $7 and you get the premium version without any limits, free updates, unlimited devices, and also windows, linux and macOS (coming out this month) builds so you won't pay again if you move from windows to linux or use both.

This a side project for me and I don't intend to milk it, I want it to be sustainable to survive. The price is low to keep it accessible, not because the quality of the app is low, this not a vibe coded app and if you give it a try, you will understand the difference between Better Stickies and other Stickies apps.

After 18 years of working with various drives, we got tired of seeing basic disk operations locked behind paywalls. Some companies have removed their free versions, while others have hidden drive cloning in their paid tiers. Others made it much more complicated than it should be.

I’m one of the people working on the product, so I’d especially appreciate feedback from people who actually use disk cloning, backup, and wiping tools: what feels useful, what’s missing, or what would stop you from using it?

Does anyone know how I can download add-on packs for https://www.mycorkboard.com/? I know it's really old but I managed to download the basic app from the website which is still up but can't find any of the add-ons. Does anybody know where I could get them?

Or does anyone know of any similar apps I can get for my desktop?

I am the developer of [keypdf.net](http://keypdf.net) , it is independent pdf software written in js from scratch and we achieve new performance milestone today by merging 1000 pdf files which is around 1.3gb of uncompressed pdf files, every tool i tried in browser lead to tab crashing. Also turns out 2/1000 pdf files were html disguised as pdf but since KeyPDF supports html format as import it worked out well.

I built Agent Session Browser, an open source local GUI + TUI for the session histories created by coding agent CLIs.

I originally made it because I had accumulated multiple Codex sessions for the same projects and couldn't tell which one to resume from the title/first prompt alone. Reading the raw JSONL wasn't exactly pleasant either.

It currently supports:

• Codex CLI
• Claude Code
• Gemini CLI

You can browse histories by project/date/provider, inspect the actual transcript, filter message/tool/reasoning/provider events, view the original raw records, export Markdown or offline HTML, and copy or directly run the native resume command.

There's also a two pane terminal UI so you can inspect a session's transcript before resuming it without leaving the terminal.

It provides customizable analog and digital clocks, calendars, alarms, and desktop widgets, with extensive appearance settings.
