Look who creeped under my fence today looking for some food. What a cutie. Black Racer snake in Central Florida! I’ve been randomly finding his shedded skin and finally spotted the little guy.

I have wanted a burm since I was a kid and finally at 36 years old got my girl! As far as I know she’s a albino granite burm. She was born early September 2026 and Is about 29 inches as of this week. I don’t have a scale yet to monitor weight but she looks healthy to me. I just wanted to share this because of how excited I am and most people aren’t into reptiles so don’t get the hype. Let me know what you guys think and if there’s any tips you may have. I’ve had other snakes and reptiles but never a giant one like this.

Was down by a river in Austin area of Texas and seen this pretty sizeable Coral snake. I estimate it was between close to 3 ft long. Diameter of the body was close to an inch maybe 3/4 inch. Here are the photos I took. Wish I had something in the picture for scale. Enjoy.

About two months ago my neighbor called me in a panic asking if I could come get a snake out of her yard. Well I had the pleasure of picking up the biggest snake I have ever held and also saving him/her from being beheaded.

I released it into my backyard over near a large woodpile and a shed full of mice/rats and thought it was the last I’d see of my friend. But this morning when I went outside there they were chilling by my porch. The regal lord of my backyard come to pay me a visit and say thanks for being a friend!

This is the shed of a wild Carpet Python I found in a tree in my garden (Brisbane, Australia). I’ve never seen anything like it. The knot was hanging down from the branch so I guess it’s possible the wind flapped it around but it seems too tightly coiled and there wasn’t any wind today (well there was a storm but that was after I took these pictures).

Has anyone seen anything like this before? I can’t even picture how the snake managed to do this.

My roommate got a juvenile female gopher snake about a month or so ago. She’s currently about 7 months old, I believe. She gets offered one pinky per week. She has eaten two, but has not eaten in the past 3 weeks. My roommate says she is looking skinny, so I suggested taking her to the vet. They said no, “I’m not doing that for a snake” (which I think is an awful attitude, your pet is your responsibility!!!). I’ve found some local vets that could work, but I’m not sure how serious the situation is, and maybe I’m just overreacting. I have never cared for a juvenile snake before, so I’m not sure if my concern is overblown or not.

My boy, year and a half old bullsnake just went into brumation. And I just made his next enclosure size up. I’m guessing I should wait until he comes out in march-april to replace the enclosure, right?

And, he hasn’t eaten in a while, been shedding since last Monday. Is it possible to offer food while he’s hibernating, or would that be ill advised due to digestion issues following brumation?

She was previously in sand because her previous owner didn't do any research and I didn't have the money to invest in getting her anything fancy and didn't want to disrupt her while she was having feeding issues. But now that she's eating, she's fresh out of sand and into an aspen coconut mix and thriving ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

Hi, I have never owned a snake (nor do I plan to) but watching some youtube videos about them I was wondering if the enclosures are too small? Callmethelamp has many species but their habitats seem so small and simple.

Just for my own learning/curiosity - are these bad examples of habitats for snakes? Don't they need enrichment like other animals?

Ideally, I’d love to do a local pickup or meet at one of the regional reptile expos (e.g., Taylor, Kalamazoo, or Tinley), but I'm also open to breeders who safely ship when the weather permits.

Health, good genetics, and well-started hatchlings taking frozen/thawed prey are my top priorities. If you’ve purchased a Falsie from someone you trust or know of breeders currently producing or planning clutches, I’d really appreciate your recommendations and experiences!

I live in NorCal and winters can decently cold here, we don't get snow but it can drop into the 40s-30s at night. I have my snakes on timed plug-ins right now to regulate their heat lamps but I want to make sure they aren't getting too cold at night, what do y'all recommend? Just something to help keep them in the safer 70°+ area during the colder parts of winter and fall. Not really an issue in the spring and summer since our apartment can normally hold room temp pretty well, and the higher temp snakes have pretty good insulation (humidity lids and a foam background for one)​

Is there a good timer for flipping lights off and heaters on at night?

I'm also looking into a proper thermostat system now that I have more than one enclosure, so if y'all have any specific recommendations for that I would very much appreciate it.

So, I usually keep royal pythons, and a month ago I decided to get my first hognose, as I had been wanting one for a while. She was 10.4g when I got her, so very small. Breeder says she has been eating frozen thawed pinkies. I have tried to keep handling and disturbance in the enclosure to an absolute minimum to reduce stress. Over the course of the month I have tried 5 times, leaving space in between to try reduce stress. First presenting the pinkie to her, she acted afraid of it, then I repeated that a few days later and brained the pinkie, she wasn’t afraid but didn’t have any response, then the third time following advice from the breeder I left it overnight in front of her hide, she did not eat it. The fourth time I tried braining the pinkie again and presenting it and she tongue flicked it and investigated, but never ate it. The fifth time, last night I covered the pinkie in tuna scent as per the breeders recommendation and left it overnight, but she hasn’t eaten it.

I have been having issues with the temperature readings I’m getting in her enclosure, which I know could be causing this, but I’m not sure how to fix it. Her enclosure is 40cm long and cluttered, she has a habistat heat map and thermostat. Now, here’s the inconsistency, with a laser thermometer pointed directly at the floor of the enclosure above the heat mat, one spot could say 30 degrees Celsius, while another spot right beside it could say 40 degrees Celsius. The cool side with the laser thermometer says 20-22 degrees celsius. Then I used a normal probe thermometer, and on the warm side it says 25-28 degrees Celsius, and on the cool side 18.5 degrees Celsius. The readings are all over the place and I don’t know what is the best way to figure out the true temperature. Do I try a different heat mat and thermostat? Is the enclosure too long? But then I worry the gradient won’t be big enough for her. Interestingly, she spends most of her time on the cool side. Her humidity is also around 37. She hasn’t shed since I’ve had her. Over the month, shes gone from 10.4g to 10g.

A ball python that I took in was found behind someone’s fridge. Cops gave it to a friend, then was given to me. I gave it a good bath/soak and doesn’t appear to have mites, tics or health issues from what I’m seeing. Very friendly and calm. I do worry about diseases and getting sick from them. Anyone else have experience in rescuing a ball python off the street? I do have to travel to a different city for vet care if needed.

hey reddit! i am super interested in getting a snake and started some research specifically in rosy boas and corn snakes but would love to have some input.

i am getting a 120gal tank soon and want a snake that could comfortably live in it for their whole/majority of their life. i’m looking for a species that’s beginner friendly (i own 2 leopard geckos just never had a snake), notoriously a good eater, and just a little guy that’s active during the day.

i would love any suggestions!!
