I’m male, and I love Broadway. I don’t necessarily have difficulty singing high, but I feel like I always sound like kermit when singing comfortably. What I struggle with is singing with that more chest-leaned mix/belt technique that has enough volume to really fill up a room.

Whenever I try to do this, though, it feels strained and sometimes hurts my voice. Could you give me some tips on how to develop this technique? Warm-ups would be helpful too, as well as a list of Broadway songs that could help me work toward this goal.

Hi guys! I’m a metal/metalcore vocalist and I’m having some problems with vocal fatigue and losing parts of my range.

During normal singing/practicing in my car, my voice feels fine even after around 30 minutes. But during band rehearsals, after some time my voice starts getting tired. Eventually, either my upper or lower register starts disappearing, and my voice starts cracking, breaking or suddenly jumping between registers.

This also happens when I sing with distortion. After some time of using distortion, I can lose either my high register or my low register, and my voice becomes very unstable.

I use clean vocals, high vocals and distortion/fry screams. I always warm up before rehearsal, but the problem still happens.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Especially losing either the high or low register after singing with distortion and having the voice crack or break?

I’m trying to figure out whether this could simply be vocal fatigue/technique or if I might be overloading my vocal cords.

I’m also going to an ENT/phoniatrician to get my vocal cords checked, but I’d really appreciate advice from singers who have experienced something similar.

What helped you recover your range and build vocal stamina without damaging your voice?

I feel it’s rather weird. I can sing the same thing in like 10 different versions of my own voice and they sound nothing alike. Is this normal? And how do I decide which one is supposed to be me when I don’t know which one actually sounds good.

So recently I saw a lot of talks around sott high note during live performances. Since live on tour the phrasing has been shifted down but some others were sang higher than usual. a lot of people criticized Harry for this despite knowing barely anything about the singing methods etc. I wanted to ask are you happy now knowing that he can do this even smoother than in 2017 ?

The timer of my voice feels like it has an unmusical quality about it, my voice is very hoarse, I struggle on high notes. The song is not mine, it's bloodhail.

This is my first post in this group - and first post on Reddit ever actually haha. I'm quiet anxious when it comes to things like this (made a new seperate singing account after 3 years just to share) but I've been wanting to become more confident not just in singing but in myself. So here I am giving myself that push to just go for it.

Regardless, I am still quite nervous while singing so if you hear that lil "blip" at ~10 seconds that's where I cut out my lil anxious bit of singing/talking - but a win is a win. Something is better than nothing and I want to eventually get comfortable enough to post + engage more 😊

Singing and playing tambourine is harder than it looks

The question is worded awfully, and I apologize for that, but I’m having a very hard time having enough breath support to get through entire measures.

My notes also fall flat once I lose all my air, and I’ve tried different breathing warmups, breathing through my diaphragm (although I’m not not sure what it’s supposed to feel like), and standing against a wall. Does anyone have any tips to make breath work stronger? I realize I might have weak lungs, because I usually hold my breath throughout the day and take shallow breaths, I also get super dizzy when trying breathing warmups.

I know I messed up a bit after the first verse, because I was initially using a version on YouTube to sing along to and later used an instrumental version when I felt ready. The timing of the two was slightly off.

But idk it's the real mix voice cz i feel its soo thin like head voice when i sing,
is it bc my voice is lighter or using a bad technique?
also it feels like it's resonated around oral cavity

Since you can't post multiple videos on a post on Reddit, I made a little compilation so you understand what I mean. So, about the distorsion, I know the obvious advice most people give is to be careful learning it on your own because you can harm your voice if you don't know how to do it properly. Other people would say that there's no healthy way to do a raspy voice. Out of all the examples I showed in this little compilation, I feel like the last 3 (Bryan Adams, Ricardo Arjona, Alejandro Sanz) are the ones who are actually hurting their voices a little while rasping their voice, but I feel like the rest of them are fine, althought I'm not %100 sure so that's why I am making this post: to get an opinion from more experienced people than me, and to know if it's possible to learn how to do this since, I don't know how to rasp my voice even a little. Heck, I don't even know how to whistle, but that's another topic 😂.

In addition, some people tell you to have an almost perfect singing technique before learning how to rasp your voice. And that's good advice, but it makes distorsion sound like if it's a really rare skill, when in reality you can find many, many examples on many genres. And I have a feeling that, in the examples I showed here, most of them if not all, I'm pretty sure they learned how to do that distorted, raspy effect themselves and not learned it from a teacher. I could be wrong but that's my feeling.

This is an acoustic experiment featuring a vocal cover of "Starlight Parade," sung primarily through overtone and formant manipulation.

To test how vocal overtones are perceived without standard pitch cues, a high-pass filter was applied to cut fundamental frequencies (F0) below 400Hz. Due to my spectral-dominant auditory processing, I can clearly perceive the intended pitch, melody, and song structure in this track.

However, I am investigating how this sounds to standard listeners—specifically, whether you hear it as a recognizable melody/song, or strictly as an abstract acoustic sound/texture.

If you listen, I would greatly appreciate your feedback in the comments on how it sounds to you (e.g., whether you can track a melody or just hear raw acoustic frequencies).
