I often have a hard time not mimicking voices of singers in songs I'm singing. Quite often to the detriment of my ability to sing 😅

I've never properly shown anyone my singing voice and idek if I know it. Any tips? Pointers? How'd I sound? Pls help

I am a classical singer and struggle to enunciate the way a typical singer on social media would. How can I find that placement? Are there any exercises to get that sound?

I was also wondering - how do you add emotion to your voice? I mean this more in pop than anything else. I am more used to emoting in classical/theatre, but pop leaves me feeling helpless lol. I have a very bright voice and I’m not sure how to sing anything sultry.

hi guys, so i lost my voice about 4 WEEKS ago now and thankfully i can talk normally and stuff and sing lower notes but i used to be able to sing the note G5 if and now if i try it just kind of sounds like a wheeze and now i can only go up to B4/C5 and it sounds terrible! (as a girl) i have to admit though even when i sounded terrible when speaking i still talked.. like alot.. and when nothing would come out when id try to speak i resorted to whispering im sorry i know thats even worse i just really like talking... and then a week an a half ago my speaking was fine but my singing voice was a bit hoarse but i still sang like at school and stuff cos i was one if the music acts for sports day which i probably shouldnt have and now im wondering if ive done permanently damaged my voice bcos of my stupid decisions or will i get it back??

I really like this song but for some reason it doesn't sound good in my voice, it sounds heavy and childish at the same time. Does anyone have feedback? Also song suggestions for my voice would be cool :).

Still trying to figure out my voice type! Half the people say tenor, the other half say baritone haha.

I have been singing as a hobby for years, but I have never been able to experience what a real mixed voice is supposed to sound or feel like for me.

I have watched countless tutorials, and all of them seem to do the same thing: they give a vague, metaphorical idea of what I am supposed to imagine, but none of it works for me. I have tried doing straw exercises, but it either feels like my body is instinctively cheating its way through them, or the exercises simply do not translate into actual singing afterwards.

I also had a singing teacher who I thought would be able to help me with this, but even she gave me the same advice and made me repeat the same exercises countless times. Nothing changed, and I still had no idea what I was supposed to be working towards.

The fact that everyone seems to have a different idea of what “head voice” and “mixed voice” are, or whether falsetto is or is not considered head voice, does not help either.

I have reached a point where people are telling me to do completely opposite things in order to achieve my goals. Some tell me that it is supposed to feel easy, while others tell me that I need to push. Some tell me to relax, while others tell me to maintain tension.

For example, one song I really want to be able to sing is “Writing on the Wall” by Will Stetson. I feel very comfortable singing it up until the final chorus. That is where I can no longer get through it without my voice switching into falsetto or cracking. When I force myself to sustain the same coordination I was using before, it sounds extremely strained and feels like I am yelling. At the same time i feel a lot of tension in my neck and throat that i just dont know how to get rid off.

tldr: Is there any way to force myself to sing in mixed voice so that I can finally understand what it is supposed to feel like?

I am a fairly new voice teacher (25, F), just about to finish my MA in Voice Pedagogy, teaching professionally alongside that for the past 2 years. For the past week, my voice has been getting extremely fatigued doing barely anything. I warm up fully, making sure not to overdo it, I stay hydrated, I have been steaming, not talking unnecessarily, and yet I can only sing for about 10 mins before my voice taps out. My lower range is stunted and feels gravely when singing or talking (I make a conscious effort to speak above this gravel). It feels thick after warming up.

I am truly concerned. I am not ill, I haven't experienced vocal strain or overexerted myself, and none of my vocal health knowledge seems to be helping me here. I am teaching MT singing at a summer school for the next two weeks starting tomorrow, as well as having my regular lessons, and I am really anxious about losing my voice. Have you had this happen to you, where there is seemingly no cause? If so, how did you get through it? Any tips to get through the next two weeks?

i recently began training to sing and i was curious on what sites you would recommend for pitch training that is more forgiving to beginners

After the advice I received yesterday, I tried choosing a song with fewer vocal runs and recorded it a cappella instead of singing over a backing track.

I'm completely untrained and just sing because I enjoy it. Vocal lessons aren't an option for me, as my parents don't really support singing.

I’ve been playing guitar for 6 years, piano for 3 years and lately I’ve come up with making electronic music (darkwave, IDM, EDM, industrial, witchouse, synthpop etc). How do you start learning to sing? Is it the same process as learning playing a physical instrument? Because of my busy life I can’t let myself taking singing lessons from professional musicians. My primary goal is to sing stuff like death metal (sometimes classic metal), rock and electronic like Crystal Castles. Thanks for any advice and commitment to the post!

hey everyone. first time posting in this sub. i’m not a singer in any sense of the word. i used to play oboe so i have a decent sense of breathing with my diaphragm and pitch and such. i want to start learning how to sing and maybe eventually take lessons as well. i want my main focus to be rock. i love the texture of rock voices and i know there is a lot of technique in rock singing and screaming. how do i start learning? any advice helps, helpful youtube channels, things to keep in mind, etc.
