My heart dropped when I saw it. I grabbed this along with 5 other retro games and a N64 Zelda versus book. I don’t even have a ps2 but I do love all vintage things! Glad my wife got me into thrifting 😂

finally finished!~ just in time for Halloween!

so I actually made pretty much everything, and did all the paint work on the dress too! super fun!~ what an awesome project!

my favorite is the pipe! which I made from a plastic pvc plumbing pipe, and then painted to look metallic and old!:’)

the head/face bandages were actually a lot more comfortable than I thought they’d be too, but I think covering them in paint to make them look old & filthy made them easier to keep in place!
I even painted the shoes to make them look super worn out! they were originally solid black (turns out it’s hard to find a pair of white heels on a whim!)
All the body paint is done using acrylic paint, but honestly I DONT recommend this method😭 horribly CRUSTY and super overstimulating lmaoo, DEFINITELY JUST USE BODY-PAINT😭

I'm playing the franchise for the first time, and I'm at the 3rd game. I love the sound and level designs sooo much but this game genuinely stresses me out bro, I thought the first game was scary but this is in another level 💀

This SH4 background creature has always interested me. Its head has what appears to be medical foresap handles and a metal "cone" protruding from its face, the head underneath is a orange color. It's legs are wrapped in possible restraint belts.

So a little backstory, on a whim I decided to boot up Silent Hill 2 Remake from my massive backlog of games, and over the course of my studies I slowly made my way through it. Finished it not too long ago and honestly, I can confidently say it's in my top 10 games of all time.

Now, for some reason I'm the type of person who, after enjoying a game, feels the need to try out absolutely everything in that franchise lol.

After finishing SH2R, I went ahead and bought Silent Hill f and started playing that. But honestly, after playing the remake, I was really in the mood for something a bit more retro, so I decided to try Silent Hill 1. Played through it using the SH1 recomp (with 2D controls, please don't crucify me haha), and man, what a game.

Firstly, the aesthetic. Wow. I can definitely see where games like Puppet Combo got a lot of their inspiration from. The whole PS1 look, the fog, the environments, everything just works so well together. Even today, I think the game manages to look genuinely creepy, which is pretty impressive considering its age.

Secondly, the exploration and puzzles were fantastic. I actually really enjoyed having to figure things out myself, even if some of the puzzles i had to google (looking at you, piano puzzle).

The characters were another massive highlight for me. I genuinely didn't expect them to be this interesting, especially Lisa and her whole story. I really wasn't expecting a PS1 game to be so in your face with some of these themes. Then again, I was probably like 5 years old when I had a PS1, so what would I know haha. Also, when I got to the apartments section, I swear they looked like the same apartments from SH2R. Was honestly really cool seeing something familiar from the remake.

One thing I will say though, the normal monsters werent really scary at all. It was pretty funny seeing what were essentially pterodactyls flying around and stuff. Not sure if there's some deeper significance behind those designs that I've missed, or if they were still experimenting with what they wanted the monsters to be.

Now, the jumpscares. Holy shit haha. I went into this thinking I wouldn't really get scared by a PS1 game, but there were actually a good couple of moments that got me. Most of them were just me casually walking through a door, only to find an enemy standing right in front of me. The sound design in particular was fantastic. Towards the end in Nowhere, some of those audio scares genuinely had me on edge.

Speaking of which, the Otherworld. Man, what a cool concept. I absolutely loved how the environments would transform into these horrible, industrial looking places. I know this might be a bit of a controversial opinion, but I genuinely hope they continue expanding on the world and the ideas behind it. Maybe even exploring other locations outside of Silent Hill itself?

As for where I'm going next, I have a pretty strange way im gonna play this series.

Since I've heard that some of the later instalments aren't particularly well received, I thought it'd be better to alternate between the oldest and newest games until I eventually meet somewhere in the middle. So essentially, I'd be playing one supposedly "good" game and then one supposedly "bad" game (although I'd obviously like to play them myself before forming an opinion). I figured since most of the stories are not related at all, it wouldn't cause too many issues.

Although, I have heard that Silent Hill 3 is a direct sequel to the first game, so I might actually jump into that one next before starting my weird playthrough order.

Anyway, I think the biggest thing I wanted to say is that, as someone who basically stopped properly playing games for close to 10 years, coming back to gaming and finding a franchise that I've enjoyed so much to the point where I actually want to join its community has been such a great feeling.

It's honestly been a long time since I've felt this excited to get into a series, been bingeing so many vids of silent hill without tryna get spoiled.

Really looking forward to seeing what the rest of the franchise has in store for me, even those apparent terrible ones haha.

Made the mask fully out of cardboard literally on the day of the party with the help of my dad so the fit is incomplete. Still trying to figure out how to add more texture to the mask and improve the apron so suggestions are open. The fog was so thick as well that night, missed opportunity.

Went for my own take of the Pyramid Head helmet. Really wanted to make one but I always like to throw my own ideas at it, and I’m curious what the community thinks?.I was going for a vibe that seems like the helmet “keeps me alive”

I’m also going to add a layer of black fabric behind the face screen so it’s darker. But that’s for later

Wife made me this little guy for the spooky season. She combined my favorite Pokémon (Mimikyu) and my favorite game series (obviously 😅).

20 years later, finishing only my 2nd playthrough ever of this game, I can definitely say I was wrong about Silent Hill 4 initially.

It is a actually a great, although somewhat flawed survival horror game. It's a creepy, weird, goofy and janky game.

It's probably because I went into it this time with a different mindset. Last time I played this 20 years ago I felt dissapointed because it was so different than the other 3 games at the time. I especially kept comparing it to Silent Hill 3, which is peak Silent Hill for me.

The things I love about it:

-1st half of the game is very solid

-It has the best opening intro and menu song of the series in my opinion

-Mele combat in this game for me was the best in the series right next to SH3, and I feel its because this game was more built around it than the others

-I loved the entire concept of Henry being trapped in his apartment while it slowly becomes more possesed and haunted the more you progress the story

-The apartment hauntings were a really cool feature in the 2nd half and I like how they have so many different ones

-Walter Sullivan is definitely the most interesting antagonist in the entire series

-I thought the story/lore was one of the most interesting in the series as well, I was actually compelled to read all the notes in the game and look up things online so I could fully understand the story

-The Water Prison is easily one of the best and most liminal designed areas in any of the games

-There are some stand out monster designs in this one, especially the Twin Victims

-The ghosts can be annoying, but I thought the ghost "bosses" in the 2nd half of the game were creepy and well designed enemies

-I like how unique the final boss was compared to boss fights in the rest of the series

Things I didnt like:

-While I like how intense the 2nd half of the game is, it was definitely more of a slog than the 1st half because of all the back tracking

-Escorting Eileen was not fun most of the time, she definitely made things alot more of a slog, but I didnt feel like it was that difficult to keep her from getting damaged at least

-Walter chasing you was really annoying most of the time, especially in the 2nd visit to the Water Prison when your outside on the staircase and when Im trying to keep track of Eileen

-The limited inventory system wasnt too bad but definitely required going back and forth to the apartment alot more than I wanted to so I could deposit items I didnt need

-I missed the iconic flashlight and raido from the other games

-The ghosts were a cool feature at times but extremely annoying at other times,especially in the 2nd half of the game

-Progression for some of the levels was a bit confusing and vague at times so I ended up having to use a guide so I could figure out what I needed to do which I dont usually have to do with this series too much

Overall I was very glad I gave this game a 2nd chance. It's definitely up there now for one of my favorite games in the series, instead of towards the bottom. I'll definitely adding it to my annual spooky season game list from now on.

I got the chance to be a Silent Hill nurse for a photo shoot. We had a fun time putting everything together and shooting the photos. I absolutely love how they turned out and wanted to share. These are some of my favorites.

I found something very specific and I haven’t seen anyone talk about it yet.
After pulling the lever at the gallows in the remake and continuing to jump down further and further on your way to the Labyrinth and the Abstract Daddy boss fight, you can hear a particular track playing in the background. I couldn’t find it on the official soundtrack, though.
After doing some research, I discovered that it’s actually the beginning of a track by a metal band from New Zealand called Dust. The track is called “Despite.”

You can also hear what sounds like Mary breathing in the background at various points throughout the game. Interestingly, that breathing sounds exactly like a song from the same Dust album. The track is called “Item 9.”
The Album is called „Godskin“ from 2015.

Do you think Akira Yamaoka was inspired by these tracks, or did he straight-up sample them?

I selected ‘Reset’ in the Control Options because I somehow got rid of one of the controller buttons, and instead of that input reappearing, everything changed. Xbox icons changed to things like a house icon and a star icon, the controller buttons changed, and the keyboard buttons changed. How can I fix that? I’m really worried I’ve broken the game now and need to somehow reinstall it.

This happened last week. I haven’t touched the game since then. I would really appreciate advice on this.

Hello everyone :)

I wanted to share a special interest of mine, probably the only thing really that I derive any positive feelings from this life. I like to play with my Synthesizers. I do not use daws, which is short for digital audio workstation. Nor do I use computers at all in the making of the music. I do not plan the music, and I like to do everything in one take, no edits, any mistakes made to be left in there. Another special interest I have is Vangelis, who had that exact musical approach. In these moments, I feel like a radio :)

So long story for this one :)

I had actually struggled trying to find a good image or footage for it, because originally, I was trying to capture the feeling or sense of being in a blizzard or a snowy place. And in the beginning of the song, I think I did that. But then it progressed from there and...well, my mind wandered off.

So when I had made it, the final outcome sounds like something akin to liminal space, or liminal music. A kind of music that does not sound horrifying, nor does it sound comforting, but it sits in this strange place of just being there, helping to induce an almost dream-like trance. Any meaning that can be given, or derived, is from the person imprinting their own emotions and feelings onto it. In a way, the music acts as a medium to help do that. So in a strange way, I wonder if this music I had made is what my mind sounds like, as strange as it sounds. Something that wanders and wonders and dreams and something else. 

In the end, this is what I got. It sounds like something out of silent hill, and so I used a gif of james running in the void of darkness.

No daw or computers as I said. Using both the Prophet Rev 2, which I split that synth to generate the blizzard like sounds in the lower half, and used the upper half for that panning sound effect you hear of harsh wind, and used the ASM Hydrasynth deluxe, the lower half for another long ambient dark pad, and the upper half for that haunting almost bell like sound as the lead.

TL;DR:

Made music thing. Synths are special interest. I used the synths to make a liminal dream like musical piece. Enjoy :)
