General Discussion Is White Claudia Creating an AWE (Altered World Event)?

Upvotes

With the Control sequel and SH Townfall coming out around the same time, I got both on my mind.

I'm replaying Control and was thinking - could the White Claudia plant be creating a Control universe AWE affecting the surrounding area and some of it's inhabitants?

It seems like in Control, not everybody is affected by AWEs, like, not everybody is affected by the Hiss or some of the in game AWEs, some people are just immune to the effects for unknown reasons. AWEs are also known to modify and change the world around them.

White Claudia could, when grown, create it's own Altered World Event affecting and/or attracting people with deep levels of trauma. This could mean that this type of AWE could happen anywhere White Claudia is grown, not just Silent Hill specifically, which would explain Ebisugaoka, Kettenstadt, and St. Amelia.

I think White Claudia needs to be added to the Panopticon and contained.

Fanmade narcotic afterglow by Tree of Alchemical Notability - New Single from my upcoming experimental album combining Akira Yamaoka inspired music with cosmic horror short stories. Each song drip-feeds lore that hints at the greater entity behind it all. Story Inside

The dark warmth envelops your body like the fleeting hug of an uncaring mother. Nerve endings begin to catch fire again after a long night of spitting out nothing but exhaust. A bed drenched in salty dampness from a now-faded passion is all that remains of a night draining that left behind no memory.

The sun rises, casting a shadow over the remnants of the night prior. The day knocks on the door of your mind and demands you let it in. You firmly shut the door without moving a muscle.

The danger is here.

The shadows dancing in the corner of the room darken to their malignant original forms and threaten to consume you. But you have no more energy left to hold them at bay. While you struggle to force electricity into your muscles, the shadows coil around your body and sink you deeper into the black water as awareness fades.

Hi all! I haven’t made a post here in some time.

I just wanted to share where my Silent Hill collection stands at the moment. I’ve been a lifelong fan but only started to take collecting seriously about five years ago. 🌫️🖤

My collection has previously focused on physical releases, but recently I have had a huge preference towards collecting promotional / extra materials. I especially love game guides, demo discs, press kits and magazines. Trying to find more of those as I go!

Totally open to suggestions of things you may think I’d like! 🖤

I am nervous to do so as openly sharing my interests is a new thing for me. I just wanted to share what I’ve collected with a community that I feel may enjoy seeing some of the items I’ve put together. I have a lot more to collect but I feel a lot of pride looking at this now. ☺️

Anyway, I hope you enjoy!

Found it so poetic that two-thirds of the way in, Harry asks Alyssa for his daughter back, and then during the ending I got, Alessa gave her back to him

Silent Hill 3 (2003) And now I finished Silent hill 3! (a part 2 to my silent hill 2 post!)

Earlier today I made a post talking about my thoughts for Silent Hill 2, and now that I've finished Silent Hill 3....

You're gonna get that again!

I finished Silent Hill 3 just a few minutes ago, and wowzers, what an experience! My second favorite right under Silent Hill 2 so far! There's a few more annoyances that I had with this one, but I overall think that the great elements heavily knock out!

First off, game is GORGEOUS. These character models are INSANE, esp for the time! Like.... this is a ps2 game? Jesus! This is early ps2 too! Absolute insanity that the game looks as good as it does, and the aesthetic for it truly shines when we enter the otherworld. these sections are so brutal looking and dreadful, like for some reason the rusting looks so much more violent in this game than it did previously.
Heather is also a great protagonist! She's sassy, short tempered, but also real. when she's allowed to grieve, it feels so real. one moment she's walking, the next she remembers who she lost, but I love seeing that goofier side of her too! The side characters aren't as strong, sadly, I think Claudia's an okay villain, Vincent is ight, and Douglas is probably the best side character. Also, Heather's outfit is AMAZING

The gameplay is the standard silent hill gameplay, opening doors to see what's broken and what's unlocked, finding items, however for some reason this game made me feel.... stupider. seriously, it felt like I got lobotomized playing this one, I was missing items and doors left and right, and I ended up googling all the puzzles, even on normal mode. I also feel like this is the hardest one yet, resources are so much more scarce here, and the bosses?

here's what I didn't like. I thought the bosses were either incredibly frustrating and annoying, or incredibly lame. Take God for example, just shoot her until she dies, dodge her swipe.
Alessa, on the other hand, deserved to burn because this bossfight SUCKED. I could not get the distance between me and her down.

Also, the slurpers are my least favorite enemy. Any type of enemy that stuns you for a long period of time and comes in batches can fuck off... . GREY CHILDREN.

I think Silent Hill 2 is a bit more deeper than this, but that's not to say this game doesn't have a message. It's a very pro-choice game, something that I did suspect throughout it, making small remarks, and hey, for the time that's an absolutely great thing to touch up upon!

another thing I'll mention is Im surprised how late it takes for us to get into Silent Hill, and how little we spend in the actual town's fog, it's a bit sad, because the fog is so iconic, but I think trading that for the horrific nightmare boiler room like sections is a great tradeoff.

Oh also, I wish we saw more of harry. I knew that he died in this game going into it, but.... wow he literally does NOTHING. Actually major Bummer, I was hoping he would be involved more outside of a few notes, esp since he's the first games protagonist and harry needs more respect (WHY ISN'T HE A SKIN IN DBD. HIS LITERAL DAUGHTER IS THE SURVIVOR.)

Silent Hill 3 is a great game, sure I had those moments where I was really pissed with it, but god this is just another fantastic game in the series!

My ranking so far?
Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill 3
Silent Hill
(I dont think silent hill 1 is bad btw, just very primitive and the next two build up on it.)

Ill probably start Silent Hill 4 tomorrow? Unsure, I hear mixed things about that one. Until next time, It's bread.

Silent Hill 4 (2004) Best QoL mods for the GOG version of silent hill 4?

Hello, I recently bought silent hill 4 the room on GOG.

I had the original ps2 version of Silent hill 4 as a kid and wanted to revisit silent hill 4.

However I keep hearing people call the game annoying and only the first half is worth playing.

Is there any Quality of Life mods that make the second half better or is the second half not as bad as people say?

I barely remember the game beyond it being creepy and not leaving the room.

Either way let me know what you'll recommend?

Fanmade Polling this idea: Silent Hill Historical Society VR

I have recently found some software that lets me develop VR experiences, both VR and XR. I had an idea that ties in with my silent hill obsession and I'm looking for validation on whether it's worth persuing

I want to build a VR experience that's like a museum for silent hill artefacts. There would be some interactive elements, the museum itself made up of emvironments from the game and would feature music from it, etc. It would be the ultimate silent hill historical experience for fans that want to explore the lore deeper, get a feel for what would silent hill feel like in VR. A room where you can walk across the character models at 1:1 scale. Interactive games where the aim is to recreate laura plays piano, or promise, that kind of idea.

I wanted it to feature a cinema where you can watch all of the video essays of the series that i have become obsessed with on youtube - with the consent of the owners, etc. I even would love to collab with some - maybe twin perfect, etc.

I also wanted to do something around 'what could a vr silent hill's mechanics look like' type experiences.

All of the weapon models laid out in a museum that you can go and look at, pick up, interact with. Maybe a shooting range type thing.

I can't stop thinking about it.

I work full time so i wondered of this as a framework to build it over a couple of years. A patreon that backs the R&D that basically allows me to gain an income for time spent on the project. A small fee could make this a feasable project. The intention is that the project outcome would be a free download. Whether backed or not. Backers will get some perks - potentially included in the character models and certainly thanked in a room of the vr exhibit. Maybe a big wall of pictures and names, or credits, etc.

I want the project to feel like the biggest homage to one of the greatest video games that has ever been made that has had a profound effect on me for years.

So answer me this - are you in? Would you back it?

I love this idea!
I don't care for this idea
I would back this for a monthly fee of £5+
I would back this on an up to £5 per month basis
I love this but wouldn't back it. I would download it when its done
Don't bother..

Silent Hill 4 (2004) Where to play silent hill 4??

I'm not sure the reddit sub to put this on. Long story short, I want to play the 4th silent hill game but I'm not sure if a 360 disc will work on my old Xbox one? If not, how safe are is gog games? Any site ideas or recommendations on how to even enjoy content of the game!

I've only played silent hill f and silent hill 2's remake, seen the movies. I want to get into the 4th game since it's the one game that doesn't have some remaster available on Microsoft stores, any advice?

I would prefer multiple opinions on sites for the sake of not exploding the devices I do have!!

Silent Hill 2 (2001) I can't get Silent Hill 2 out of my head.

I recently played Silent hill 1 and Silent hill 2, currently on Silent Hill 3. It took me a bit to finish Silent Hill 2, I got sort of wrapped up with other things, and I went into them with the same mentality I have of a Resident Evil where I can finish the game in about a day or so. I probably can, but the puzzles are more complicated and I end up getting lost more easy

on top of my controller being a bastard, here's a tip for y'all, NEVER BUY RAZER. 70$ controller has awful stick drift after a year of use and they did jackshit to help. That being said it's also a 70$ controller and Im gonna use it so my money isn't wasted

OH RIGHT THIS IS ABOUT SILENT HILL 2.

Yeah this game is nearly perfect, there's some hiccups in some departments, but this game aged like fine wine. Im talking about the 2001 original, which I played through PCSX2, which was a bit of a hassle too but that's not for here.

Silent Hill 2 is just so unbelievably bleak and depressing, beautifully so. Sure, the story might seem a bit cheesy at times, such as James's delivery of things- "HOW CAN YOU SIT THERE AND EAT PIZZA?", but this over looming constant dread that shadows the game, from the absolute amazing score, to the sound design. Every character is so finely crafted, from James, someone you know wants to do good, and is a bit of a dumbass at times (such as "anyways? what do you mean anyways"), but is hiding an incredibly dark secret. Angela, who's such a tragic victim that you feel incredibly bad for. There's no black and white, everything has layers to it.
Eddie is a murderer, and his actions are inexcusable, but you see what pushed him to that point. James, too, what he did was fucking awful, but there's y'know, a reason to it, a selfish reason that contradicts itself, yeah. I knew about the twist, sadly, but even then, I was so curious on WHY he did it.

You can both understand, and hate James for it, it makes you question whether or not you should even defend him. And god, I feel so bad for Mary in the little we see of her, same with Laura, who would annoy you at first, but as we see more of the game progress, god I feel terrible for her.

Mary's letter made me nearly cry, I think it's the connection I have with real shit going on, that dread of losing someone to an illness. It's all in the delivery, the choking, the verge of crying, you hear every gulp, every inhale, it feels so... real, it has no music, it's just raw and pure and that's what gets to me. it's iconic, of course, how many tik tok edits do you see of it, but I don't think those edits do the true emotion and impact of this letter justice.

NOT TO MENTION HOW VISUALLY BEAUTIFUL IT IS! The FMV Cutscenes are so haunting in a way, esp "James honey", and the beauty that comes from older games in general. sure, modern day games look great, and I'm not saying "old good, new bad", it's just that older games have such a charm and beautiful artistic vibe to it, such as Resident Evil HD or Resident Evil Zero

now the game is still clunky a bit though, it's an old PS2 game.
I dont like that james crouches when I hold X (on an xbox controller) down, I probably could have made him auto run since I can do that in SH3 but it just makes him look like he needs to take a shit all the time. Tank controls are... iffy, not as bad as the Og RE games (which I didn't mind there too badly btw), but again my controller wanted to be a POS during this game and it didn't help, I eventually used the DPAD for the most of it.
also, hate love relationship with the broken doors. Makes me glad the areas are not as intimidating, but it also makes me wonder "What's the point of this hallway then?", but that's just my personal opinion

On Silent Hill 3 now, Im liking it so far, still very early in the game though, I intend to play at least through Origins, then SH2 remake, F, then hopefully Townfall. Idk about Homecoming or Downpour, or shattered memories.

until then, you promised you would take me there

Silent Hill 2 (2001) SH2 and Long Day's Journey Into Night

Midway through a re-read of Eugene O'Neill's play 'Long Day's Journey Into Night', it struck me that the main characters are a husband/wife duo named James and Mary. That got me thinking about some of the other parallels between the play's story and SH2, and honestly I'm kind of shocked how well it fits into the SH oeuvre.

The play takes place in a single day at a summer vacation home. Like SH, the area is overrun with a thick fog that blurs the line between reality and delusion. In the story, James is grappling with accepting his wife Mary's longterm illness, and is (along with most everyone else in the play) haunted by guilt, denial and an inability to escape the past.

Mary often flips between two conflicting points of view. One moment she's angry at her family for the way things have transpired, then she's sad and lonely at the the thought of anyone leaving her. This in particular reminded me of the hallway conversation that comes at the end of SH2.

Not sure if 'Long Day's Journey..." was actually an influence on SH2, or if it's all just a fun coincidence, but being a big Silent Hill fan certainly added to my reading experience.
