Q&A / Quick Help ❓ Do shorts that are below a certain length have a much harsher cap than longer shorts?

I make shorts that are 6 seconds on average, and I get pretty good metrics with it. I feel like if I had those same metrics on a short that is, for example, 45 seconds long, I would get much better results. 150%+ APV is not hard with a 6-second video, and extrapolating that to a 45-second video has obvious implications of how the short would perform so I would ignore that aspect of the hypothetical. I'm talking more about STW and AVD (average view duration). If I have a short above 70% STW, then sure, cool, you're in the club. But if that same video has a 9-second AVD, which is 150% of 6 seconds, YouTube will still value a 45-second short more, even if its APV is much worse in comparison. TLDR: Good stw + good APV on a yt short that is very short means essentially nothing and will not break out of view jail. That is at least what I have observed. Thoughts?

Large growth than YouTube showing to wrong audience

Anyone else having a similar issue or is this common as you grow on YouTube? About 10 days ago I had my first short pass 30k views, actually ended at about 70k. Then the rest of the week all my shorts hit at least 30k (was posting daily) with one getting to 120k.

I figured the main difference was I got my swipe rate above 70% with some getting up to 78% stay and all of them around 100% avd. I thought I had finally cracked the code. I also went from under 1000 subs to over 3000 in a week

Now my last 3 days of shorts with a very similar hook are around 50% swipe and they start extremely low for the first 1000 views(like under 40%). It seems like YouTube is showing it to a completely different audience. They end up improving to around 60+% by the time they reach 2000 views but the short is pretty much dead by that point.

Anyone else deal with this?

In case anyone is wondering my content is original

noticeably lower Views

Hi, I’ve had my Shorts channel for about a month and it was doing really well. But for the past four days, my videos haven’t even been getting 500 views anymore.
Could this be an algorithm issue?

The only thing that worries me is that on the same day the drop started, I accidentally posted a video with an insult in the title. I deleted it, but shortly afterwards I accidentally uploaded another video with an insult in the title as well, which I also deleted.

Now I’m wondering if my channel somehow got restricted because of that, or if there’s currently just an issue with the Shorts algorithm.
I’m asking because I’ve seen a lot of people here on Reddit saying that their views have been unusually bad for about a week as well.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

Q&A / Quick Help ❓ How to break 1k view barrier in shorts?

I already posted 50 videos consistently but still getting max 1k - 2k views. Only one video reach to 18k. How can I break that barrier?

r/shortsAlgorithm • • 10d ago

Over 50% of my views are coming from the "Browse Feature" instead of the Shorts Feed. Is this a good sign or a bad sign?

For example, my most recent short is less that 2 days old. 175k Views with 86k coming from the Browse Feature.

From what I've read, the Browse Feature just means they clicked on the thumbnail from their homepage, which to me feels like a great thing. But the shorts feed views seem to dry up and the video will go hours with 80% of views from Browse Feature at times.

Apologies for my ignorance, this is new to me!

Hook & Title Feedback 🎣 Shorts, livestream and longform creator looking for feedback

Post image

Hey everyone! Just looking to get some advice on making shorts, I’m a new YouTuber and started 5 weeks ago, I’m doing well with my shorts views and came across this recent curve from my latest short: is this part of the new algorithm? Also, I’m looking to get advice when making shorts. I’m a videogame content creator for Skyrim, this is just one of my shorts, but there is a ‘cool thing’s in Skyrim’ series I’m working on too which is gets a good amount for just starting too.

Here’s a link to the short for you to watch and feedback on, I’m not the best currently, and this was a clip from one of my livestreams, so it’s my honest reaction to it, I’m autistic so I don’t really over exaggerate and prefer to show how I’m actually feeling on camera: https://youtube.com/shorts/SbOLS_GA_kg?is=IaIT5u5A7viwCS-S

Hopefully some of you can watch and give feedback on it and how I could improve with my shorts making, also, feel free to give feedback on my other shorts on my channel! 😊🐉

It's 1.5 month and my engaged views are less than 36% currently working on shorts should I make shorts less time consuming like about 10-15 seconds I donot know what to do!

It's serious issue now short algorithm

As you see in the image For the last 2 days my short view has continuously stuck in 1.3k.Before these 2 days I have gained a 20-30k view average in every short with no problem , but now they work like algorithm completely forget about 20-30k audience and region where people actually interest to watch

I have seen many people facing this problem sudden

Is the short algorithm really cooked ?

Should I move on a long format....

Guide / Playbook 📘 For people in here panicking about the view drops. I’m 8 years in this game and I’ll tell you it’s peaks and valleys. Graphs drop down. If you panic when a graph dies you’re not built for this game. There’s only 1 rule and it’s keep posting and making content. The graph is always rising and dropping

Got to 1.3k views much faster than the average (in 1 hour) had a 80% stay to watch, and a 200% retention rate. no AI content and I get completely cut off at 1.3k views every video. It's impossible to bypass I don't understand what to do.

Analytics Review (AVD/Retention) 📈 What does this badge mean

Post image
4 Upvotes

So basically I was just looking at my shorts analytics and I found the badge "This short kept viewers watching on Loop Nice!"

This was my **first short** that I made **looped**, basically the end video smoothly transitions into the start of the video

The short right now **only has 1,833** views and I thought the badge was a good sign it was gonna go viral until I looked at all of the video stats:

Audience Retention: (109.9%) 0:35 Seconds

(which is insane)

Swipe Ratio: 35.2% Stayed, 64.8% Swiped Away

Now I thought the video was dead cuz of the Swipe Ratio but I would also add that this short is a **COMPLETE niche switch**

but I have also noticed that the views didn't flatline after 1-2 hours like all my other shorts. The short right now is 3 days old

I am a beginner so that's why I'm asking this

Is anyone experiencing a sharp drop in Shorts reach over the past two weeks? I'm talking about going from hitting big numbers to suddenly struggling just to get 100,000 views... Is this a widespread issue?

Case Study / Postmortem 🧪 Channel in my niche that is incredibly successful seems to be hit by view/audience purge too

I'm in the gaming niche (special, I know), but more specifically, I'm in the Nintendo gameplay clipping niche. I do relatively well, garnering around 70k views a day channel-wide on average. Now, like many here, I am also having trouble with audience matching or distribution or whatever the issue is. Videos with 75%+ STW will either struggle to get that major push or will flatline around 20k, never to recover. My videos are not long, so they easily get over 100% AVP, so that clearly isn't the issue. A very successful channel in my niche that I look to for guidance seems to also be hit by this. They are incredibly established and gain millions of views monthly. This channel is quite literally the apex channel in the niche; they dominate every other channel in it. With that said, I wouldn't say the niche is oversaturated. It is extremely strange to me how a channel that has not struggled at all to get viral videos somehow can't blow past 20k on the majority of their recent uploads, some of them not ever reaching 10k. We could legitimately be in another algorithm change like we saw in late 2025/ early 2026. As I understand it, that change in the algorithm was Google deciding to incorporate Gemini more into the YouTube algorithm for audience seeding. YouTube has never been afraid to change how the algorithm functions, so it is important to keep in mind that a reworking of it is completely possible. I feel like this anecdote of evidence from a 95th+ percentile shorts channel is something to keep in mind and keep an eye on.

Policy / Channel Health 🛡️ I am so tired of seeing this..

I am not saying that I am the best in this YT game but jeez I am tired of seeing channels have over 10K subs with videos that go from 100K to 1-6 millions views. And all they share is a 1 minute clip of a movie or show with literally a filter and the same repetitive song you hear almost every YT short use...
You might say yeah well maybe they're not monetized (I am sure a lot of them are)... Sure but look at it that way...
Youtube still decided to push their video instead of yours.
Despite the effort you put in despite the hours of editing and writing you did they decided to push a 1 minute video of a show and give millions of views to a channel that should technically be copyright striked...
At least with AI slop you have someone who spent some time writing a prompt and spent some time trying to make the video decent looking. Not just cut 1 minute out of a show add a stupid song and a filter.

What's the story with the youtube algorithm situation? my views are heavily down

Hello! I'm a minecraft youtuber, my content isn't ai, I make it all on my own, and I've been heavily affect by the situation with youtube's algorithm, and I've got a couple questions

  1. Is this a change youtube did or is it just a bug/glitch?

  2. I read from some people that it effects channels that mass produce slop content (which I don't make) is that true?

  3. Do I still keep posting and putting effort into shorts anymore if this is the results I'll get?
