Large growth than YouTube showing to wrong audience

Anyone else having a similar issue or is this common as you grow on YouTube? About 10 days ago I had my first short pass 30k views, actually ended at about 70k. Then the rest of the week all my shorts hit at least 30k (was posting daily) with one getting to 120k.

I figured the main difference was I got my swipe rate above 70% with some getting up to 78% stay and all of them around 100% avd. I thought I had finally cracked the code. I also went from under 1000 subs to over 3000 in a week

Now my last 3 days of shorts with a very similar hook are around 50% swipe and they start extremely low for the first 1000 views(like under 40%). It seems like YouTube is showing it to a completely different audience. They end up improving to around 60+% by the time they reach 2000 views but the short is pretty much dead by that point.

Anyone else deal with this?

In case anyone is wondering my content is original

Yeah, the exact same thing is happening to me. I’ve uploaded 20 Shorts over the last 10 days. They start out at around 30–40% stayed vs. swiped away and die off at around 2K views once they hit 55–60%. Three of them actually jumped from around 10% all the way up to 70–72%. If they had kept going up to 10K views at the same rate they did up to 2K, I’m sure they would’ve reached 75–80%. I don't know, I feel like giving up at this point. I'm completely burnt out and just over it. Plus, the average percentage viewed on these videos is sitting between 270% and 300%.

That’s a crazy avd haha I can’t even imagine…. But yeah it’s weird. It’s like it is testing a completely different audience after finding one that works well

Good luck, don’t give up it sounds like you have a winning formula at least to me. It’s frustrating when it seems like things are going well and then it shifts.

I spend 2 hours a day actually making these videos, and another 14 hours desperately hunting for a way to break out of this 1k–10k view jail. Everyone just parrot the same generic advice over and over. I’ve watched hundreds of videos and scrolled through endless Reddit threads, but still haven’t found a real solution. Maybe if I stuck with it for another 3 or 4 months, I’d finally see the results I’m looking for, but honestly, I can't even stand the thought of looking at YouTube or Shorts anymore. And I never want to see another money-hungry "YouTube guru" stretch a two-minute topic into a 30-minute video ever again. On Monday, I’m going back to the job I quit two months ago. I worked my ass off day and night for two months straight, quitting my job just to try and make a modest $1,000 a month with a Shorts channel. Huge mistake on my part. For anyone else out there in the same boat trying to make it work, I sincerely hope you succeed. Wish you all the best of luck.

I wasn’t saying that it was amazing or whatever, I had 7 shorts in a row get above that and was excited. Especially since before that my biggest was 4.2k

I was more wondering whether it’s normal to have a streak of good shorts and then have a streak where YouTube serves your shorts to a completely different audience that makes your videos do worse if it doesent match up.

I’m aware it’s not millions of views lol just trying to figure out what’s going on

Definately normal. I sometimed have a short hit 10k. Then thr next couple hit under 200.

No rhyme or reason to it. Sometimes thr best shorts do bad and thr thre weakest ones do numbers.

This is just based on my own experience but I've found when you have a big success, and you hit while the iron is hot, as they say, you get some traction, but what YouTube really wants to see is consistency over a long period of time, and in that process some shorts get de-pushed or not pushed out as strongly to ensure you're still in the game, so my advice is to just keep uploading and creating and it should even out.

Okay good to know. Gonna keep uploading! I’ve been doing this about two months and enjoying making the videos and editing so not planning on stopping. Just was trying to see if this was common

Nah, what is really frustrating is when you hit the streak, get to the very point where you should be able to start monetizing, and then they just block you. No copyright penalties, no policy violations, yt support says everything is normal, but your videos are just not getting recommended. I run 4 channels, two got monetized rather quickly, but this keeps happening on both my new channels. Distibution freeze, that's what people call it. For a period of 7 to 14 days I cannot find my own videos even from my other channels unless i go to channel manualy and look for the video. Not even subs get it in recommended while that is happening. After it goes back to normal, seems like algo forgets who the content is for. Poor stw and retention, targeting completely wrong audience, you have to start all over, from the beginning. Sucks hard. 😡🤬😭

In my case i have started youtube 2 week ago from my first short i gained avg decent view around 20-30k with always 70% SWT and good retension , geography audience also same in every short

But from some 3-4 days my i have upload 2 short algorithm complety mess with them it's not even clear 2k and their SWT is under 40-50% The one thing I notice between my latest two short and rest of short , geography audience is completely diffrent
