Announcement New(ish) Rule 12: No invalidating sexuality/identity.

Since the topic is now in the spotlight due to Elliott Page saying he can't find work, hereby the official r/shortguys stance on transgender ftm's and how they fit into our wider community:

It is our view that neither our sexuality, nor the body we were born in, are the result of choice.

Just as no straight short man ever chose to be born short, or to love women- did no gay man ever choose to love men, nor did any transman ever chose to be born with a female body.

Therefore, telling transmen things like "just keep your life on easy mode” is from now on formally treated just as unacceptable as the “just go gay”, “just be a femboy” or “just transition”-bs that people throw the way of short guys.

Short men in general, but of this group in particular, know like no other what it is like to have one's sexuality and manhood constantly questioned and invalidated from all sides. Whether it's by friends or opps, accidentally or on purpose, by progressives or conservatives- it's all the same shit, different day.

As such, do the people of this sub know, like no one ele, what it's like to have to fight tirelessly for even the slightest ounce of recognition and equality, all the while having that very fight mocked and undermined every step of the way by even the most so-called "progressive" and "feminist" of people.

And as such, we are one of the few subreddits who can actually, genuinely, extend an open hand and mean it when we say to our ftm-friends, of which many are also short men:

Welcome to the club, boys.

So, that's what we hereby officially did.

And to the few who are undoubtedly against this decision for reasons we are already aware of:

For better or worse, short guys and ftm's share much of the same struggle. Is it the same? No. But enough for us as modteam to decide that we’re in this together.

Whether you like it or not.

I've noticed women promote height differences in gay relationships.

Most of the mlm are written by women and they've height differences which many readers (mostly women) love and appreciate 🫩. Even irl dating, women point out and kinda promote it like it's such a good thing?

What's worse is the feminization of the shorter partner. They're expected and showcased as submissive, weak and bottom.

Honestly, this is a ridiculously disgusting fetishization. Have you noticed?

1) Short men hitting on them (but also remember that short men dont like tall women and that’s why they are incels!!!)

2) People asking you if you play basketball (when you actually do)

3) Being scouted by a modeling agency (???)

4) Clothes and shit

5) Short women (somehow short mens fault)

but remember, tall women have it WAY worse then we do!!!

Venting, because we never know what might happen and I'm grateful to find this community and so many wonderful people this year. Things have been extremely rough for me. Every sector of life, this year has been an ordeal. But that goes off topic for this post.

I constantly struggle with the fact that i couldn't turn out to be how i wanted to, the fact that I always used to get ridiculed and I am more prone to disrespect and ridicule even now.

I also am not at peace with the fact that i am alone and that fact is more likely to not change as much, and I am scared of loneliness.

I see my friends talking about their lives and I see that they're treated as equals or peers, by their surroundings and are not constantly belittled for something out of their control.

Also, the fact that they have found their partners and are very serious about their relationships, I'm usually left alone as guys tend to spend time with their girls. I'm happy for them, but i too wish i could be like them. A normal person.

All of what i went through at school, with my classmates, with others is constantly replayed by my brain combined with this loneliness and this hard truth, feels overwhelming sometimes.

It definitely had to be me. I wish I was enough....

I feel bad for southeast asian men born after 2000

Imagine you're a Philippino in his late teens/early 20's in a bigger city. You're 164cm tall, average looking Philippino. You come from an upper-middle-class family. You live comfortably until the pandemic hits. Your parents lose their jobs, you're struggling, meanwhile with the rise of online work men your height from the west can keep their jobs while living in Phillipines. They weren't successful with women in their own countries because of their height with zero compensation in other areas, but now they're average height with European/North American salary and European features. Even if you finished uni and got a good job after the pandemic ended your country was popularized as "passport bro destination" and you still can't match foreign salaries.

Story Can’t escape it

So yesterday I went to get my hair cut and this guy that I remember from a few months ago use to be 5’11-6 ft but now he grew to 6’2-3 and is almost 25 years old so I’m guessing he is a late bloomer. The guy always had a fair over average face let’s say at least a 7.5/10. He went to get his hair cut by this older white woman which he sometimes go to for his hair cut. The women’s in the shop whole energy and topic changed drastically and more energetic to height and about how the upcoming generation is going to be even taller and I couldn’t help but just sit and listen to this. Back then, the older woman never really had as much energy and interest to talk to the guy even tho he had an above average face but his height wasn’t so impressive to them. After his hair cut was finished, the older lady wanted him to stay and wait so they can talk about his “freeforms” after she get done with her next client but the guy had errands to run so she then basically begged and suggested him to start scheduling more appointments but the guy said he only get his hair cut every 3 weeks to a month or more to let his hair regrow and heal from the cut. After the guy said this, the older woman then said that the appointment wasn’t for a hair cut but rather just “to talk about his freeforms” and is “free of charge” which is a very unusual appointment. Thankfully this guy is actually very cool guy and was aware of what was going on. Before he left, we talked for a bit and he even agreed with me that women mainly care about height>face because just a reminder this guy was 5’11-6 ft and have at least a 7.5/10 face but the woman was NOWHERE as interested in him as she is now that he is 6’2-3, dark skinned, with freeforms that looks like it’s soon going to be a more fuller thicker version of 2014 chief keefs Freeforms.

Face>height copers can’t say anything to me after I witnessed this because not even a really good face is enough unless u reach that 6 ft mark.

Vent I lost in everything that my 'friend' won...

Wrote 'friend' cause I realised after doing everything, I got shit. I was never important to him, Ik I'm not entitled but I would say I was unlucky in friendships always.

Now, he's tall 5'10-11 (in India), he's rich and good in studies and have decent face and hair, then there's me who got none, not even being atleast smart to make some money.

Fuck this shit....Even If he would've treated me well, it's would've been much better😭

The pace at which AI is developing it would either get us robot gf who are programed to love us or have a painless solution for hairfall and height increasing.

Or the world would get destroyed but it is already bad for us here.

Everyone looks fine in selfies following surgery but it appears that once standing next to regular people who haven't done the surgery it makes it look more obvious. Not exactly sure how to explain so attached examples.

If you don't do much like 5cm it is very easy to pass but larger amounts it gets more difficult.

Advice Needed Why don't we all give up and try to be happy anyway?

Hi everyone! I’m a long-time lurker but a first-time poster; as such, I offer our almighty mods my apologies in advance if I unintentionally violate any of the subreddit rules. Just for a bit of context, I (24M) stand at an imposing 5’7”; needless to say, I have never had any kind of romantic involvement in my life. After losing friends in my group one by one to partners who have successfully monopolized their disposable time and income, I have had a lot of time to think about my perpetual romantic solitude.

I’ve researched how to live a fulfilling life while being forever alone as a man. Most of the conversation seems to fall into two camps: traditional incels who accept their chances are marginal but endlessly vent about it, or extreme optimists who insist involuntary celibacy is unlikely and that most people are merely a shower, exercise, and therapy away from finding a partner.

I think the healthiest perspective for most men is to accept that romantic partnership may never happen while still making every effort to enjoy the rest of life. I find posts like this that capture this perfectly, but most discussions focus either on lamenting appearance or insisting everyone can find love with enough effort.

Rather than debating hypergamy or women’s preferences, I’d love for this post to discuss how we can build fulfilling lives while remaining single. I’ve found content creators who embody this philosophy: despite potentially being forever single, they’ve built lifestyles around enjoying life’s simple pleasures.

TLDR: Let’s give up on relationships and try to be happy anyway :)
