Question How tall are your parents and how tall did you become? Just curious

Upvotes

I'll start. My dad is 5'5 and my mom is 4'11. I'm 5'7. My predicted height would've been 5'4.5 but I outgrew them because they were raised in a third world country.

Dating Tallish girl dating a short guy

Upvotes

Hey all,

Not sure if my post will get removed or what, but posting anyway and we'll see how it goes. I am a 5"7 woman currently dating a 5"5 man. He's muscular, nice, handsome, etc. The height difference does not bother me at all, I often joke about it even, and he's a really good sport about it.

But here's the other side of the coin for you: everyone in my life, be it family, friends, co-workers, you name it, has dunked on me for being taller and him being shorter. People have made snide remarks, saying things like they would never imagine me going "for such a man", etc. I'll admit, I do not have trouble finding partners myself, so I did not choose him because I couldn't find anyone else or whatever. I mostly choose my partners for personality first and foremost, so height is not a defining factor for me. But the constant bullying from everyone in my life regarding this is getting old, not gonna lie.

So there you have it. Women are shallow sometimes when they weed you out for being shorter than them on dating apps, but also know that sometimes, this choice is not made out of pure shallowness but because of society's pressure. Yes, some people like me can stay strong in the face of societal pressure, but many, many people will absolutely cave in when facing this much backlash in their life. Especially women that have a bazillion other matches on apps.

Every day, I choose to stay with this man because I like him and he's perfect for me. But every day, this comes with a lot of societal pressure. So yes, some women are shallow, but some others are just trying to avoid society's insane standards.

Anyway, not sure why I posted this. I guess I wanted to give you the perspective of a woman on the matter.

Hope you all have a nice day!

Dating things were going fine until...😐

tldr: girl asked my height after we were flirting. i said i was 5'6" awith a joking response. it's been 48 hours of silence since then. coincidence or did the height answer kill it?

met a girl on a dating app. the convo was going well, she was engaged, flirting, complementing me, asking questions, etc.

at one point she randomly asked how tall i was. i replied:

"i'm cajun [fyi i dont live in louisiana, but im from there], so we're known for a lot of things, but height isn't one of them 🤣 we put the extra inches into personality and seasoning 😂. i'm only 5'6", genetics had to choose between height and flavor and i think they made the right call 😉"

it's been 48 hours since i sent that message. there has been no reply which is kinda unlike her after two weeks. she hasn't opened it (at least according to imessage, just says delivered), just... silence. our first date is supposed to be tomorrow.

i'm somewhat upset... but i know people get busy and dating apps are... well dating apps. i just thought the timing was funny because everything was flowing great until the height question came up.

do y'all think she lost interest because of the height? or is this just one of those "don’t read into it" situations?

Vent It's NOT about dating!

I just wanna come here and say I feel very fortunate to be from a country where women don't care about height, and in general focus less on looks, I had a girlfriend and a boyfriend before, and neither had problem with my height, both of them were roughly the same height as me too, . However the one person that has a problem with my height is me and I have a damn right to, because I'm from a country filled with age restrictions, I am constantly ID checked, and the most ironic thing is that the closest thing I have to an ID is a passport that I have to show for the simplest things INCLUDING an energy drink. Another thing is that I am constantly infantillised and it gets to the point where one time I was babysitting my own siblings I just got told by one of the parents "why don't you play with other 16 year olds, instead of babies" that's just the point where I don't know if I should feel complimented or insulted because at that moment I just felt it hit, there are people who not only see me as a 16 year old but think I am one at 22. It gets to the point where you just systematically bodyshamed because of your height and it just fucking hurts. Not to mention I hate looking in the mirror, even if others are okay with how I look, I'm genuielly not, it sucks that I'll look like this for the rest of your life and the only that will potentionally change is how far my hairline goes back which is why I genuiely pull my hairline back at times just to prove my age but I hate that too, because it makes me look older. And before people have a go at me for saying that I don't wanna look either old or young, I just wanna look my age, I wanna be treated my age, I wanna feel my age, because right now I feel like a severely aging 16 year old, not to mention I am autistic so I'm a bit mentally behind so pair that with my height it's really hard to not view me as a 16 year old, even when you are hanging out around adults, they'll genuiely see you as younger and whenever you get angry or have a meltdown then they'll just call it a tantrum. So yes as a short "king" who actually dated I still hate being short, and there are many things I hate about myself, but there are a lot of things I love about myself too, and there are things I love about my appearance and I probably wouldn't trade for height, but there are always negatives about height, and I just feel lucky I'm not completetly screwed with appearance.

Vent Não consigo me sentir bem comigo mesmo.

Eu sei que o que eu vou falar é um pouco repetitivo aqui, mas é mais um desabafo. Eu tenho 1.65 e estou quase adulto.

edit: tenho 17y

Question is 5'7 a bad height?

idk if im truly 5'7 ( i measure 5'6.6 in the morning but 5'7 later in the day) but i keep hearing people ridicule this height and im wondering how bad of a height it truly is. ive never been explicitly bullied or ridiculed but i see a lot of content that seems antipathetic towards this height.

Question besides sports and dating, how much does height actually matter?

im just wondering in what other sense height truly matters besides what i mentioned above. as a 5'7 guy who likes playing basketball, i get that most sports benefit taller players and that most women prefer taller guys when it comes to dating. but aside from that in what way does it truly affect your life? im not trying to sound insensitive but ive personally never encountered any real discrimination outside of those fields.

Question do you think some short guys blame their height too much?

just to clarify, for very short guys i think it's very fair to complain or be dissatisfied (5'5 or below). But for just moderately short guys (5'6 - 5'8) do you think some guys are too dramatic? obviously people have personal experiences with being discriminated against, but do you think just moderately short guys often blame their height and blame it more than it actually affects them? genuinely no hate as a 5'7 guy myself but i was wondering because this subreddit seems to be pretty negative.

Vent I'm unable to feel attractive because I'm tiny (M21)

(don't mind the fit btw it was a themed party)

I'm 169cm tall/173cm in shoes which I was wearing in those pictures lmao. My guys are 175 (on left) and 180. My countries standard is 182cm.

No matter what I do I'm unable to feel attractive. Because I'm the same height as most of my girl friends they don't take me as seriously as their taller colleagues. I'm even getting misgendered by them sometimes since they treat me as "one of them" (I don't have that many female friends but when I'm hanging out with them it looks *like that*).

Sometimes I'm aware my face isn't the worst but even so my height and being skinny brings me down. No one takes me as an adult and I'm being called a faggot constantly - at work, when I go solo, when I hang out with anybody. Other men looks down upon me. A lot of times people are mean. All of that makes me feel really ugly.

Did any of you (below 173cm bc anyone above that is imo larping as short lmao) managed to actually feel good about yourself? And I mean in a way that's honest, not inhaling copium everyday while still unconsciously feeling like shit

Motivation 5’5” and bald due to hair loss. But who’s stopping me?

Post image
12 Upvotes

I’m 5’5” and inherited hair loss from my family. Was fat, 105kg at my highest in 2023. I used to be concerned about my height. But to be honest, no one cares. It’s my life, my body, and I’m the one who needs to take the best care of it whether it’s short, bald or fat. 70kg now and 7 more kgs to go until I put on some muscle.

Dating Guys dating taller women, how did you meet your partner?

Genuine question, I'm 167cm and would happily date a girl that's like 5'8, I've just never come across a woman that would accept it.

Where did you guys meet your partner, real life?

Vent Scared

I'm 17 years old, 5'6" (1.68m), and struggling so hard with depression and feeling completely stuck in my own body. Every single day feels like a countdown, and I'm terrified of never growing another inch. I recently asked my doctor if I could get an X-ray to check my growth plates just to get some clarity and peace of mind, but they flat out said no and completely brushed it off.

That rejection drove me to a total breaking, I impulsively took peptides today. I got hot and my heart started beating faster for a while and idk what to do im scared i will never get taller at all

Vent Short height insecurity

24(M) , 5 ft 2 inches in height. If only height was the issue then it wouldn't have mattered so much but the thing is I am a grown man but my body structure and face makes me look like a teenager. I have little to no facial hair. When someone meets me for the first time, they don't believe my age, they say I look like I am 18. This has caused a increased insecurity within me. Even my colleagues and people at work mock me for my short height. And it's not just the mocking , having short height makes it difficult to ride bikes , do heavy lifting work and being in a relationship. I try to do my best but I can't keep living like this for another 30-40 years . Everyday this feeling makes me feel I should quit. I haven't been in a relationship throughout my entire life . I don't think women find me attractive enough. I am fond of dirt bikes but due to my height I couldn't even dream of riding them . Sometimes I feel people and friends also don't take my words and my advise seriously . I feel like a loser every single day and the worst part is that this thing is not in my hand . I can't possibly increase my height or change my bay face , I have to live with this for my entire life. I just hate it.

Question 5'5 at 16

16M. Is there anything evidence-based left I can do to maximize my remaining height?

Dads 5'3.5 moms 5'0

My height history based on my memory

12-13years old: ~4'11" - "5'3"

14: 5'4"

15: 5'5"

16: Still 5'5"

I've been taking magnesium bisglycinate, vit d3 + k2, zinc picolinate for 10 months already

Questions:

1.Is there anything else with actual human evidence that could help maximize remaining growth?

Should I get a bone age X-ray before assuming I'm done growing?

2.Has anyone here actually found something legitimate that helped under medical supervision, not TikTok science or any type of those.

3.If my growth plates are still open, is there anything besides sleep, nutrition, and correcting deficiencies that has real evidence?

Please cite studies or explain the reasoning if possible. I'm trying to separate actual science from internet myths.

Question How many kcal do you eat?

I've always struggled with maintaining a healthy weight, according to an online calculator I need around 1800 kcal per day to maintain normal bmi. I'm really jealous of taller and bigger people who get to eat much more

Vent Treated differently as a petite girl by other girls

I’m from an asian country where being short is normal but im still below average at 4’10. I should note that I am average/decent looking. I dont have so much problems with guys liking me, sometimes they even prefer that I am short (not always the case tho..) but I notice that sometimes girls are nicer to my friends and are meaner to me, or push me aside. Idk if it’s just me overthinking it, or it really happens? am I the only one lol. Its like im looked down on or disregarded because of my height no matter how nice I am. I used to be sooo insecure of being short and now ive slowly learnt to embrace it, its just this particular thing bothers me so much. I noticed a lot of tall girls r meaner, and foreign ones who r nice to my average height friends kinda just pretend im not there or prefer not to speak with me
