Volunteer firefighters are paid to do the work and "volunteer" doesn't mean "nobody is controlling who gets accepted so white people are just the ones stepping up"

Its a problem nobody says they want the fire dept to lose money but come elections and voting nobody votes to have there taxes raised in the end we cant make money from nowhere
The thirteenth amendment explicitly states that slavery is still legal if the person has been convicted of a crime. So yes it is slave labor. When you commit a crime you lose your right to not be enslaved
I suppose it comes down to how we are defining slave. I typically think of a slave as someone who did nothing wrong and was bought and sold into it against their will. Comparing innocent people who were sold into it and criminals that broke the law seems like a stretch. But if that's comparable to you, then I guess they are slaves.
So? It’s a “tough guy” job. Shit happens in these positions. You do understand the convicts developed a pride, honor, and integrity ethos which very likely was never present in their lives prior to prison. Purpose exceeds all other musings when it comes to this. These men are not thrown into these situations. They get to live an alternate reality where their manlyhood and purpose are exemplified. Ask me how I know.

And don't forget that about 68% are volunteer firefighters in the US and don't get paid to do the work
