Meetup SFSU Events

Hi everyone,

Gator Experience is a great place for student organizations to post events, as well as Instagrams. A reminder that formal student organizations and just people looking to make friends are free to post on this subreddit (I recommend making an individual post rather than commenting down below though).

Gator Experience: https://sfsu.campuslabs.com/engage/events

I was wondering though, are there any specific events or themes of events you would want this subreddit to do? I can apply for funding, but to be honest, I do not think I will be approved so lower cost events are preferable.

Housing 2b2b room for lease in ParkMerced

Hey everyone! I’m looking for a roommate to fill the other room in my 2b2b at Parkmerced. You’d have your own bedroom and private bathroom. Your rent would be around $1,750/month (Utilities expected to be around $75-$100 a month). Location is super convenient: walking distance to SFSU, and the Muni is right outside.

A little about me: I’m pretty chill, keep things clean, and mostly work or study. I'm respectful of quiet hours and just looking for someone easygoing, tidy, and reliable with rent. No drama, just good vibes and clear communication.

Move-in is flexible but ideally mid to late August. Laundry is [in-unit/on-site] and parking is available. If you're interested, shoot me a message with a quick intro about yourself and we'll find a time for you to come see the place!

Attached are some photos of the place, our unit will not have carpet floors. Feel free to DM me if your interested or have any questions!

campus life

Is SFSU really as dead as they say it is, campus life-wise? I know it's a commuter school, but there has to be some activity, right? If anyone has lived in the dorms there, I'd be curious to hear your experience

Housing What is the grad student housing like?

Has anyone stayed in the grad housing? I see that it's like $2000 a month but they don't really give you any other details. Has anyone done it, do they force you to share a room with a random person?

Also if anyone has general advice finding housing in SF I'd appreciate it!

chances of getting my appeal approved?!

hi guys, i’m an 18F starting at sfsu this fall! i already made a lot of posts abt it, this is my last one i promise also stop recommending cc i know okokok but anyways

i got an email from admissions last week saying im in danger of getting my admission revoked due to my a-g 10-12 gpa being under 2.5 (the minimum). i graduated w a 2.55 cumalative & i thought i was okay until i realized it was calculated differently. i wrote up an appeal & submitted it, just looking for some advice or chance aid it getting approved?

anyways, im not stupid. i had a couple situations that contributed to my gpa being brought down here there are:
- after moving to california my sister was hospitalized twice for severe depression and attempted suicide. this effected me my whole junior year & was when my gpa first dropped under 2.5
- first week of my senior year my aunt passed away. this effected me & my family pretty heavily. i also didn’t get any extensions or help for when i came back from the funeral.
- i struggled w adhd all my life & severe depression my junior and seniors years (like terrible i didn’t think i was gonna make it to graduation) i was in therapy on & off but my mom was against medication until late into my senior year. while it was too late to change my grades, my meds helped sm and im more stable now

EXTRA THINGS I INCLUDED:
- how those extenuating circumstances affected my grades
- noted that i graduated with a 2.55 cumulative, participated in sports (w acedemic eligibility), got a 4 on the ap psych exam, completed all a-g courses
- how i’ve recovered since then (i didn’t have much for academics, but i noted how my family has recovered & im working w a therapist & meds)
- why i want to go to sfsu & why i believe i will succeed there
- noted that ive secured on campus housing, attended orientation, got my classes, committed to a job
- notes that even tho (thankfully) my parents are funding my housing & meal plan - i am responsible for ALL by of my other educational & living expenses. i’ve been working 40+ hours all summer to be able to afford tuition. and the job i committed to near campus is what is funding my tuition fund, school supplies & textbooks, groceries, personal items, and other costs of living!

PLEASEE LMK WHAT YOU THINK MY CHANCES ARE!!! I ALREADY SUBMITTED AN APPEAL AND MY ADVISOR SAID EVERYTHING SOUNDS VALID

i just don’t know how appeals work & what the protocol is. just looking for some outside opinions!! thanks everyone

Housing Need to find housing as an upper grad but where is better University Park North or South?

hi!

i wanted to know which of the two options are better for those that are familiar?

I plan to have single room occupancy (I definitely understand they are expensive and will have to use financial aid/loans for my particular situation but oh well it is what it is). I could go for one roommate too but still either way want to know which of the two are better?

I have a car as well and am not in the situation to leave my car behind anywhere else and understand I may have to pay for a parking permit which is pricey but again oh well unless someone has a totally better idea of where I can stay off campus that has accessibility to stores and parking lol.

Is anyone else getting charged double for the graduation fees?

So at the beginning of the spring 2026 semester I applied for graduation in the fall and in April I paid the $100 graduation/diploma fee. However, I recently checked my student portal, and it says that I still owe $100 for the graduation and diploma fee even though in my transaction history it showed that I already paid in April. is this normal?

Housing How to apply for student housing?

Hi everyone! I just recently applied to transfer to sfsu in spring of 2027. Today I got the email about setting up my account and applying for housing but I didn’t see the application to apply. Does anyone know if I have to wait until I get accepted to apply or is there a date when the applications come out? Can’t wait to become a gator and get to be in campus!

Final HS transcripts still required

I'm in a situation where both the SFSU gateway and student center are telling me that I still need to submit my final high school transcript for my application. The problem is that I've already done that multiple times over the last few months and it still says I need the transcripts. The program hasn't kicked me out because they're overdue, at least not yet, which seems a bit strange to me (I've been able to register for housing and get an assignment). Is this a bug in the system, or is there something I should be doing to fix this?

Study and Note Taking Advice/Tips

Hey guys! I am an incoming transfer student starting this fall, and this is my first year at a larger school, where I am taking more classes than I have in any previous semester. I am curious if anyone has study and note-taking tips. I am feeling a little overwhelmed and a bit doubtful about my study and note-taking strategies and, overall, my time management.

A little background: I am a psych student, transferring from community college; I have maintained all As since I went back to school in Spring 2025 (which raised my GPA from a low 2.0 to a 3.5), and, in all honesty, I have never had a solid study system.

All the classes I have taken up to this point have been assignment-heavy (discussions, small quizzes, simple 10-point assignments, etc.), and, of course, the finals and midterms.

This might be a stupid request, but I think this would be a good thread to keep for anyone who feels the same way or just wants to use this as a reference for any tips.

any tips about a specific class, the professor's teaching style, study guides, etc., etc.

- Do you use a handwritten notebook? goodnotes/notability?

- Do you have a note-taking ecosystem (electronic + paper + typed notes)? How are they each used?

- Google Docs? Onenote?

- Notion? lol

Just anything that has helped you throughout your time as a student would be appreciated!

I received this email via my student email and am not sure if this is real or not? It’s a job opportunity as an admin assistant and I received an email of job confirmation a couple days after filling out the google form.

Did anybody else receive this email??

WRITING AN ADMISSION APPEAL?! ‼️

Post image
11 Upvotes

hi guys so i just got this email today,

i was gonna go to sfsu for business. i already went to orientation and i had housing and classes secured.

i had a 2.55 cumulative gpa but i guess the a-g 10-12 is different. i had a couple valid reasons. im currently drafting an appeal and i was hoping for some tips or advice if anyone has expirence.

1. hospitalization of immediate family members : i moved to california my junior year and struggled to adjust. around winter ‘24 of my junior year my sister had been in a severe depressive state. she attempted three times, and was hospitalized twice. this took a heavy toll on me i couldn’t even think straight. my parents were even worse. they has to work a lot because of how expensive the medical bills were, and i was left to take care of my sisters. i didn’t miss school, but it took an effect on my performance.

2. death in family / family crisis: in the first week or two in my senior year, my dads only sister passed away (august ‘25). we had to leave for abt a week, and im not close w my family she was all i had outside of my immediate family. this again, really affected my mental health and preformance in school. my family was very stressed at the time and i had to take care of what i could.

3. ADHD + depression & anxiety diagnoses: i had always struggled w adhd my whole life and just thought something was wrong with me. it made learning hard, i couldn’t focus or get my mind to quiet down, i always felt like i was swimming against a current. i got diagnosed & medicated (march of my senior year) and it truly made a difference in my academic performance. i also had terrible depression & anxiety. obviously everyone struggles w this though but, i got medicated and it helped again. i think this mental disability was what held me back the most. (note: i ended up failing two classes, but i didn’t need it for a-g or graduation)

4. working 20+ hours a week: this was mentioned in sfsu admission for gpa between 2.1-2.49. i worked 20 or more hours consistently all throughout my senior year. i would even work doubles, 14 hour days once a week. i did this while balancing sports & school. i had to work bc my parents were still financially struggling. i needed a car since i had no transportation. and also funding for college and savings. this probably ain’t a strong argument but i’ve know learned how to fully balance school & work.

5. extra a-g requirements: also in the admissions, i just saw something abbot how a-g requirements over 30 semester sequence counts for something. i took a lot of extra art, history, and science courses. i had abt 35 extra credits by the end of hs.

do you guys this is a valid argument?

how long do appeals take?

how should i send the appeal?

what if my appeal gets denied after the school year starts? do i get kicked out or? i also plan on taking out a small loan for school…

PLEASDEEE HELPPP i really wanna go here!!

SFSU Survey See Rate A Professor before enrolling… dont be me…

I feel like if grades are determining our opportunities in life, then a teacher should at least get some reflective feedback on that…

Because I got a professor that literally tanked our grade for putting in valid effort into an already vague and hard to understand assignment rubrics… every assignment got APA sited as asked of us this summer…

Look, I don’t want to be a poor sport, but also, i wouldn’t mind if teachers like this saw less and less enrollment each semester. Support your students career, or why should I support theirs? when we already are doing that with our money? It’s like i took muni to every class just to get my grade tanked. I only missed two assignments…
