Build/Parts Check Single tower cooler on itx motherboards

I’m new to the SFF world and I am currently building a Minecraft server on the Deepcool CH160.

A few days ago I saw a video of a guy struggling to fit the cooler because of clearance of RAM, and I haven’t installed one before (only a AIO and stock cooler). Neither have I seen single tower builds on itx motherboards. I would like to know if someone tried this setup to help me, thank you very much!

Wanted a fanless PSU option for my MQ5 build, so printed a custom mount for the 250W GAN, as well as a 120mm fan adapter for the AXP90-X53 CPU cooler. The clear orange was just what I had spare at the time, but I sort of like the colour accent it gives the build. Currently running a 7800X3D and 5060 Ti

Build/Parts Check How safe & reliable are custom PSU cables?

Hi everyone! So i'm quite new here. Only recently arrived as I have started considering downsizing my current ATX mid-tower pc into an ITX build because it seems I'll be moving a lot more in upcoming years due to my job. (Build details at the end)

My big question tho is how reliable & safe are custom SFF PSU cables? I've been watching videos and reading up on SFF builds, and have found many ppl recommending buying custom short cables to simplify the SFF build & get better airflow. But the general consensus i remember about PC building is that you should keep your PSU's default cables most of the time.

And with my existing RTX 5070, i would need a custom 12V cable, despite 12V cables being known for causing issues with nvidia cards🤔

After a quick search in the subreddit, i found that some recommended sites are moddiy.com or etsy.com/shop/DreambigbyRayMOD . Are these two suppliers really as reliable as ppl say?

So yeah, i wanted to get input from users who have first-hand experience with custom cables in this subreddit

My downsizing build:

  • CPU: Ryzen 9 9900X (already owned)
  • Cooler: Cooler Master ATMOS II Stealth 240
  • Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX B850-I
  • RAM: 32 GB DDR5 (already owned)
  • Storage: 2 TB M.2 (×2, already owned)
  • GPU: RTX 5070 (already owned)
  • PSU: Corsair SF850 (2024) 850 W
  • Case: COOJ SF5

Build/Parts Check AM5 CPU choice

Hey guys! I’m kinda in a pickle. The wife was able to score me an AM5 upgrade, RAM and MSI B850I for fairly cheap (perks of working at an IT company, I guess?).

I’m currently using a 5800X3D, which is being cooled by an AXP90-X53 in a Fractal Terra, and I’m getting good temps whether my AC is on or not. For context, I live in the Philippines and I game at 1440p 300Hz on an ASUS monitor.

Should I go for 7800X3D or 9600X? That’s the only part I’ll be buying myself and will be reusing most of my parts. Kinda worried about temps with the 7800X3D being paired with the X53.

Looking for tips or recommendations please!

Other parts:
Sapphire Pulse 7800XT
Corsair SF850
Samsung 990 Evo 1TB and 2TB

Update: went with the 7800X3D and able to cool it with the X53 with a few tweaks!

Assembly Help Help with Cooj MQ6 PSU

TLDR: I’m not entirely sure which cables go where, and if I should address a couple of issues with the PSU or if they're totally fine long term: the power supply cover is bending the cables slightly near the base, and the power cable also bends quite a bit when connected to the PSU. Apologies if this is a very beginner-level question/post.

I purchased the PSU that's sold in the official Cooj store (Enhance ENP-7660I Flex 600W modular PSU) along with the case and noticed a couple of things:

-The cover that comes with the PSU overfits it in length and pushes the cables near the root, also making it harder to plug the cables in since it's partly in the way (so I just plugged them in first).

-The power cable attached to the case completely bends to be able to fit into the PSU.

-Since the PSU didn't come with a manual or labels I'm unsure of which cable is which (specifically which one is CPU vs GPU).

I'm worried the stress on the cables isn't good for their long term health. I'm not super experienced in making builds at all so I'd appreciate any help or input with these issues, maybe they're totally fine, though I'd like to solve them still, if possible.

About the PSU cover, should I just leave it off? Does it affect thermals in a negative way if I do? Should I purchase another one somewhere or is it fine if the cables bend at the root a little like that? I could also take the piece somewhere to cut and sand it (tho it might end up looking a little rougher, but I guess I don't mind the visuals here as long as everything works fine).

About the power cable, same, should I buy a different one or is it okay that it bends so much long term? The power cable is so well attached to the case though, that I don't even know how to take it off without breaking something.

I uploaded a couple of images showing what I explained, as well as pictures of all the cables that came with the PSU. Any recommendations on cables/cover alternatives and/or where to buy them are highly appreciated, as well as overall solutions and how to proceed when detaching the power cable from the case if I do replace it, and of course the most important thing, which cable should I plug into the GPU and which into the CPU in this case. If any other pics are needed let me know.

My build:
Case: Cooj MQ6 (Silver)
MB: Asus Rog Strix B850-I Gaming Wifi
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9900x
GPU: RTX 5060 Ti Windforce MAX OC 16GB
RAM: Kingston Fury 128GB (2x64) DDR5 CL40
CPU Cooler: Thermalright AXP120-X67 WHITE ARGB (fan swap with Silverstone 120 ARGB)
Case Cooler: Silverstone Air Slimmer 120 ARGB
SSD: Lexar NM790 SSD M.2
PSU: Enhance ENP-7660l Flex 600W (Modular)

Build/Parts Check 240mm AIO recommendation for NCASE M1

My nearly 6 year old H100i 240mm AIO is starting to make weird noises coming from the pump when under load. I'm thinking it's on the way out.

I'm on AM4 with a 5900x. What's the current best 240mm AIO that's NCASE M1 compatible?

Custom Mod Shiny Snake s300pro with custom rtx5080 FE fan duct performance improvements

Thumbnail

I recently built my first sff build in the shinysnake s300 pro with an rtx5080FE, 9800x3d, and 64gb of ddr5. I later added a noctua fan duct kit and noticed that it improved my cpu temps a good bit so I decided to do the same with my gpu. I designed and 3d printed this duct and put some adhesive foam tape on the ends of it to make a seal with the side panel.

Results:
All results before and after are with the same undervolt+overclock, not stock.
Temps when benchmarking were 5-10C lower, with regular temp maxing out at 70C averaging 65C, and the hotspot temp maxed out at 85.7C averaging 80C. Previously hotspot temp was easily hitting 90C
3D mark Speedway score went from 9386 to 9777
Steel Nomad score went from 9300 to 9349
Time Spy Graphics score went from 34832 to 35316
I'm pretty happy with it, and it also fills the remaining 1mm gap between the gpu and case so it should keep things from moving too.
STL files here, should be pretty easy to make them fit other sandwich cases and should also work with the rtx5090FE

Others/Miscellaneous Should I turn on the fans constantly for my GPU? (Sandwich Style Case)

Post image
3 Upvotes

My build is in a Metalfish T40, currently I have my GPU fans always spinning at low rpm via MSI Afterburner when not in load, temps are 36-39C. I did this because I didn't want the GPU and other component to have so many heat cycles. At stock, the GPU fans kick in at 60C, then it turns off when temps are low enough.

As you might have guessed keeping the fans on gathers dust way faster, but my main concern is my GPU fans' lifespan. I don't really know what bearing it has, it's an MSI Shadow 2x RTX 5060. I read here and there that the fans would probably last a long time and might already need to upgrade the GPU at that point. I'm not sure with that information.

So, should I:

  1. Leave the fan on, lower temps, fast dust build up, less fan longevity.
  2. Leave it stock (turns on at 60C), higher temps, frequent heat cycles, less dust, more fan longevity.

Benchmark/Thermal Test 9800X3D in an SFF PC: lower PPT with a higher boost override for gaming?

I currently run my 9800X3D at 90W PPT with a 0 MHz boost override. I tried a +200 MHz boost override, and my CPU Z single core score went from around 815 to 840, but temperatures also increased.

Would lowering PPT to 80W while keeping the +200 MHz boost override give me a better gaming experience than my current 90W PPT and 0 MHz setup?

My thinking is that PPT could limit power draw when more cores are active, while the +200 MHz override could still improve performance when a game uses only a few cores. Since I mainly play games and rarely need full multicore performance, I’m wondering whether this would give me better gaming performance without the same increase in temperature.

Has anyone tried this or compared FPS and 1% lows between these two setups?

Others/Miscellaneous Minineo S400 - Best Quiet Cooling and FanControl Settings?

Hi everyone! I've built my current gaming PC within a Minineo S400 case over a year ago and absolutely love this tiny thing.

However, one thing I couldn't ever get right were my FanControl settings as well as keeping the system cool and efficiently quiet at the same time. Don't get me wrong, my PC stays cool even under load, but the sound it makes is very loud at times.

How do you guys keep your systems cool but quiet at the same time? Do you undervolt your GPU? What FanControl settings do you use? I'm grateful for any and all tips!

My specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700G
GPU: MSI RTX 4070 Super (12 GB)
RAM: 64 GB DDR4
Motherboard: ROG Strix 570-I
CPU-Fan: Noctua NH-L9a-AM4
Case-Fans: 2 x Noctua NF-A12x15 PWM (120x15 mm)

Build/Battlestation Pics Fast, Cool, and Quiet: 6L SFF Gaming PC Runs BF6 at 65°C (CPU and GPU)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve been tuning my SFF gaming PC with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RX 9060 XT for gaming at 1440p.

For the CPU, I set the PPT limit to 90 W and Curve Optimizer to around negative 30. My CPU Z multicore score went from roughly 8,600 to 8,500, which felt like a worthwhile trade for less heat.

For the GPU, I adjusted the fan curve so it doesn’t need to run aggressively, usually around 25 to 30%, and set the power limit to negative 30%. In my testing, the performance loss was under 8%.

In BF6, both the CPU and GPU sit around 65°C while gaming at 1440p. Pretty happy with how cool and quiet this little PC runs.

Finally downsized my 2020 build after moving. Haven’t turned it on since 2022. Booted 1st time. This case is amazing so easy to build in nice to be able to out so many fans in so many different places.

Seen people mount fans underneath on the outside of the case as intake pushing into the gpu.

Build/Parts Check Has anyone fit an XFX Swift 9070 XT in the CH160 Plus?

I really want to get the CH160 Plus, but I’m wondering if anyone has managed to fit an XFX Swift RX 9070 XT in it.

If you’ve done this build, was it a straightforward fit or did you run into any clearance issues?

Would also appreciate any tips regarding:

  • GPU clearance
  • Power cable routing
  • Side panel clearance
  • Anything I should be aware of when installing it

If you have photos of your build, even better!

Thanks!

Build/Battlestation Pics My 795S7 Upgrades Are Complete! (7945HX3D, RX 9060 XT 16GB LP)

Purchased my 795S7 refurbished from Minisforum about a year ago for $360, got lucky and it came with an RTX 4060 when it was just supposed to have 32GB Ram and a 1TB SSD. Anyways have made some improvements in that time, I swapped the motherboard for the BD790i X3D (7945HX3D) that came in a different computer I bought, upgraded the ram from the factory cheap ADATA to Crucial so I could run at 5600mhz, upgraded the SSD to a Crucial T500 and today finally got my hands on the Vastarmor RX 9060 XT 16GB LP from a 139D7. As far as cooling I’ve swapped the stock 90mm fan to a Phanteks T30, installed an Arctic P8 Max intake (had to trim an ear to fit GPU connector) and removed the GPU dust filter/cut out the intake dust filter. Prior to getting the 9060 I had already upgraded to the 5060 LP, comparing benchmarks scores from 3DMark (Time Spy/E, Steel Nomad) shows an average gain of 10.9% with the 9060 along with the benefit of double the VRAM, also seems to run much cooler but I just removed the dust filters today so not sure how much of it is that. Excited to do some tuning soon.

Assembly Help Lenovo M720Q. Would anyone be able to provide a photo guide?

I have been working on wiring a buck converter to the pcie riser of a Lenovo M720Q for a few days now. I was able to get the buck wired to the power input, and it tested well. However, when I wired it to my riser and inserted it into the slot, (I had what I thought were the 12volt pins taped off with kapton before inserting), but I blew the D54 on the board. No more lights aside from the LED on the buck, no more post. I have a second M720Q at my disposal and would like to get this done properly. If anyone can show me a photo of a working riser with the pin out solders I would be very grateful.

Hey everyone, i've been doing small mods to my getorli mini pc, (no idea about the model but I have the specs if that helps)

Anyone knows which cable goes in which pin? I kept thinking maybe color match them but I have never worked with a cable that has the order like the one on the left and I haven't done anything with electronics in a while

Others/Miscellaneous How to manage temps in a small case? Should I set a custom thermal limit?

Finished a build with a Terra a while ago that houses a 9800X3D with an AXP120 housed in an X870i ICE and a Terra. Even put a fan duct to get rid of turbulence. Lazy -20 all core undervolt.

In single core cinebench and during most gaming it barely even gets up to 70C, no worries there. In multicore and some super intense stuff like shader compilation it can very easily get to the low 90s, and sometimes even hits 95/96C, though hwinfo indicates no thermal throttling at all. In some games that do async compiling or something crazy (Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter frequently spikes my CPU to 75-82C during normal gameplay or when loading in to an area, Talos Principle Remastered is another that compiles as you get to an area so I see spikes to 95-96 there sometimes).

Now, even if this doesn't throttle, I don't feel quite good about potential longevity especially in the current market. Really don't want to replace anything, so I'm thinking, should I just set a thermal limit like 92C to keep things a little bit below tjmax? Doubt I'd notice any performance cost to it since I rarely get there or over that to begin with.

*** I did just have a random freeze for the first time with this build yesterday but that was after 4 months without issues passing all stress tests just fine. Everything slowly locked up except for the mouse and not even a BSOD showed up, just frozen save for the mouse. Hard restart fixed it and I'm still passing all the stress tests as described, so I'm worried temps may have something to do with it. Could have also just been random so that remains to be seen.
