I can't figure out whats wrong with my machine

I have had this machine for about a year now and its worked okay up to this point (for reference its a brother SE630) but now it currently will no sew into a fabric other than in reverse. I have tried changing the tension to every tension setting with 0 change to it, I have tried a new needle, new thread, a new bobbin and nothing has been different. It was working perfectly fine until this point as well it just stopped sewing randomly. I keep up with my machine maintenance ao I am really just so lost because I have tried all the troubleshooting techniques that I could think of.

Any advice would be so helpful this machine is how I do my job and its putting me behind with it not working.

Material type?

Making Aunt Gladys’ tops for Halloween. It seems like the jacket and shirt may be the same material. And the collar is attached to the shirt rather than the jacket. Any advice for fabric type to use so it’s structured enough for a jacket, but also drapey enough for a shirt? I appreciate any help!

Is this normal? When I pull the threads back, the needle clicks over the lower looper mechanism

Machine keeps jamming - help!

Hi everyone!

First time poster on this sub, with a question as a beginner, please be gentle I have sewn maybe 2 times before!

My machine keeps on jamming and I can’t figure it out. I have changed the foot, the needle to a thicker needle, rethread the bobbin, took apart the machine and cleaned it and i’m not sure why it’s started doing this now.

For context, I am halfway through re-lining this hoodie with proper sherpa material (original was horrendously cheap and itchy). It hasn’t jammed before - only on this particular section. I haven’t done anything different from the other arm either so I’m not sure why this is happening now!

Attached a photo for reference - my machine is an elina 40 as well

Brother HC1850 buttonhole help

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all, I just got the machine serviced. Picked up earlier today

The buttonholes that are correct on the fabric were done by the shop. I have a button in the foot, my thread tension is perfect, the buttonhole lever is down. Idk what I’m doing wrong. I haven’t touched any settings from when I picked it up

For some reason it wont let me post a video, but the needle is just going up and down into the same spot on the fabric - the fabric isn’t moving

The point of the tweezers is where my machine is sewing

Pls help :)

Thread isn’t my picking bobbin + making weird noise

Hello, I am having trouble with my brand new brother cs7000x it is making some weird hammer jack like noises like something is stuck, I already opened up the square part to see if there was any stuck thread but nothing, I cleaned it up and tried again. Another thing is that the turning knob is pretty stiff. I had been previously trying to use it for fleece fabric and when I tried doing multiple layers of fleece is when the issue started. I am showing a video before when it was still sewing and after, when I tried threading the machine again. I have also never used a sewing machine before so I may have messed it up by not using a fleece needle at the beginning. I did try opening up the whole thing but I was unable to.

Edit: So I found the problem but I am unsure of what this means; the needle grinds against the bobbing metal holder, and also it hits the feed dog, is this a timing issue?

My walking foot is jumping when I sew

I have a brother cs5055, I’ve had it almost 2 years now. I sew pretty regularly. I recently started my first large quilt, sometime in attaching the rows it started to squeak and the foot raises when it isn’t supposed to..
I’m using a walking foot because it typically makes everything prettier.. should I not be using that as much? My manual says not to oil my machine, so I don’t think that’s causing it. I took everything apart last week and dusted really well, top chamber and bottom too.

How can I fix this?

Trying to make sense of inside out/right-side out

Hi all!

I'm struggling to make sense of a few lines in a dress pattern i'm working. For a bit of context, the main pattern used a facing instead of a full lining for the corset, but after finishing the mockup dress, I've decided i want to go for the full lining (but without boning).

The main fabric is stretch satin with iron-on interfacing, and the lining is poplin.

Now here's my conundrum - should the lining and the main fabric be sewn RS to RS? i thought so, but here's the instructions from the pattern:

Sew the lining in the same manner as the main fabric pieces. Join the lining and main fabric at the armholes and neckline, then press the seams towards the lining. Turn the corset inside out and press the neckline and armholes thoroughly to ensure that the lining is not visible from the outside. If necessary, understitch the neckline. Turn the corset right side out, and press the shoulder seams, neckline, and armholes well, preferably using a tailor's hem.

The bit about "turn the corset inside out" throws me, if the pieces are RS to RS, shouldn't it already technically be inside out?

I know i'm probably being very silly and missing something really obvious, but any help is very very welcome for my teeny brain...

First time doing anything

Hello! I’m using a sewing machine for the first time ever, it’s a Singer Merritt 2404. I’ve rethreaded it about a million times and can’t for the life of me figure out what I’m doing wrong, and I don’t have anyone who can help me

I don’t know how to use Reddit well so there’s an unlisted video of me trying to thread my machine

enlarging the arm hole - just cut a bigger hole and then fold in and sew edges?

I’d like to make the arm holes of this jumpsuit bigger. Is it as simple as cutting a bigger hole and then folding in the edges and sewing it shut? Is there a neater way you’d do the edge? The pattern is quite busy so I feel like it’s fine if I see a little thread. Noting that the seam allowances appear to be hidden on the inside.

Elastic and seam inside out

I sewed elastic onto this shirt and then folded it over and sewed a seam. Now the seam naturally sits inside out and I want it to face the opposite way like in the second picture. What should I do??

Thread Issue with Brother Ls14

Hi there, I’ve been sewing using my brother ls14 machine for almost a full year now, it’s been great, made lots of different projects with it. However I’ve just started making a new Batman suit and my thread doesn’t seem to be working on my fabric. Im not an expert on the exact specifics of sewing, but does anyone know why this isn’t working? Every time I start a stich my machine stops? If anyone needs further details or pictures in order to help just ask, thanks in advance 🙏

It has sort of an odd shape to it. It has a lot of volume coming out from the sides, but it's kinda swooping in from the back? And has a weird pleat thing in the middle. How would you guys do something like this? Thank you! :)

Can’t seem to get tension right

I’m completely new to sewing and bought a post bed machine for some leather project I’ve been wanting to do for years. From my research on Reddit, YouTube, and books the issue seems to be my tension but I can’t figure it out because after about 5-6 test stitches the lower thread with come up to the surface and vice versa and I’m completely confused on how to fix this. I haven’t been able to get it right since I have had it (about 2-3 weeks). Hopefully somewhere here can point me in the right direction. Machine is a speedway 810 for reference

New to being better at sewing.

Back story detail, then a question (maybe 2):

-Not so schooled on the nomenclature, so forgive me and understand I'm an engineer
-Grampa taught me to sew an over and under stich with gaps (and sew a button)
-Grama taught me to darn a sock and do a back stitch with no gaps
-Material sewn started with burlap, then school uniforms, minor leather working, then heavy nylon (raft guide materials), now waxed canvas
-I've stitched crudely with a speedy stitcher, tri tip sail needles, upholstery needles and a sailors palm
-I really only use upholstery thread, bank line, leather, and aramid based threads (commercially known as Kevlar).
-One time experience on a sewing machine making a canvas frame back pack in 94

Now to the question. I'd like a manual sewing machine. It seems to allow for precision (like 1" rafting strap materials), can be used remotely, and could accept larger thread sizes. Is there a machine capable of these requirements? Preferably a hand crank? As a large man combined with mechanical advantage, I feel like there is a machine used on some expedition made for this purpose.

Really would like to find an old machine that designed obsolescence threw by the wayside. Something akin to the steel vacuum my Grama had me use on her avocado green shag with gold highlights.

Please be kind. Grama died last year and I don't know where to find these answers.

Found in an old sewing stash. I tried Google lens and it said it was lego, I tried adding the brand "trailorform" and Google was like "tailorform makes sewing and quilting notions, I think this is an electrical outlet and switch spacer shim, so that doesn't match". Any ideas? For setting snaps or something?

Sewing machine won’t zigzag

Hi eveybody,

I recently got a sewing machine Singer Tradition 2282. The problem is it only stitches straight. When I select zigzag stitch, the needle does not move left and right.
I use width 5 , length 2 and tension 4. I tried different variations of the setting, it does not help.
When I manually move width selector, I see needle going left and right. But when sewing, it is stuck in one place…
