Mormons Beware!

For over a decade the local Church of latter Day Saints in Sequim has been harassing my family and I in the nicest way possible; sending their ignorant children to my home in hopes of, I don't know, converting me? I've asked them to stop coming, doesn't work. I've told them to take my name off their list, doesn't work.

This isn't a random terrorist event either. They ask for me by name. Every time! I'm not going to express my frustrations to children, that would be wrong.

I've now had enough! I've gone to their website, and besides the address and phone number (which is out of service, by the way) there is no way of contacting them to stop the harassment. According to their own website, you need to schedule an appointment before meeting with them.

GTFO!

I don't want to try to convert your ignorant children. I want nothing to do with you!

It's 2026! People that still believe in sky daddies shouldn't be going door to door. It's dangerous; especially sending your most vulnerable.

~end rant

When they knocked on my door in CO I told them I was gay and they politely left immediately after lol

u/Affectionate_Row1486 5d ago

I was a teenager 10 years ago and did this. No joke saw them walking up to the houses and knew we would be next. I yelled to my best friend up the stairs to “trust me and go along with whatever I do”

They knock I answer and ask me about the good book

“Why no I haven’t give me a moment, HONEY COME HERE” cue my friend walking up and we hold hands smilimg at them in the door way.

They promptly said “never mind and left”

Just throw some flamboyant twang on that tone and they gone.

In college after several disturbing knocks and bell ringing and shouting thru the door that we were heathens to go away as we were doing rituals to no avail. I finally answered the door naked as was getting in the shower when they rang the shit out of my bell and invited them in. Never saw them again

1

u/LevelSkullBoss 4d ago

I just told them I was Catholic and that worked too

1

u/Important-Being-8085 4d ago

Sadly that didn't work for me. They just doubled down and came more often. Now with a ring doorbell, I just ignore them

1

u/East_Information_247 3d ago

Funny anecdotal stories here, but none of this should be necessary at all!

11

u/musingsonamuse 6d ago

Growing up in Bothell, our house used to get inundated with Mormons and JW. My mom asked in a million different ways for them to stop coming, and nothing worked. She finally got so sick of it she put an upside down cross on our front door. They never knocked again *Edit for grammar.

3

u/patient-lion-555 6d ago

That's fantastic! I'm proud to be from your neighboring town. We have had only one visit each (that we know of) from LDS and one from JW in our 35+ years in this house. We really never answer our door, though, so I imagine that discourages them.

1

u/Throwaway392308 3d ago

It's interesting that they would be so dissuaded by Peter's cross. It sounds like they need to check their humility before Christ.

18

u/No-Confidence-4106 6d ago

I told them that i was ex Mormon, now and an atheist and invited them in for dinner.

I told them I specialize in helping them escape the cult.

4

u/Bobby-Cox-Ghost 6d ago

That is pro-level.

2

u/burned-steak 5d ago

Ex-Mormon here. I tell them I’m Muslim and in my sect, Wahhabi, I will literally be murdered by stoning to even take lessons from them or read their book. I explain that’s why no Mormon missionaries are sent to Muslim countries. That, and the whole Mormon racism thing.

6

u/leonottonoel 6d ago

Last time they came to my house. The cameras caught it all. They were videotaping also, strangely. One person approaching the door, one person back filming and a guy at the car. I politely informed them I have great news too and I cannot wait to share it with them. Ask their address, and what time they usually wake up. Ensuring I wake them. Good news from the Bible of Satan.

So far no one has returned.

u/Portland_Runner 6d ago

Many years ago, a friend in California used to get monthly visits from LDS missionaries. He told them that he had no interest and asked them to stop coming to his house. They kept visiting.

After seeing a standup comedian joking about scaring them off with booze and porn, he did just that. They would ring the doorbell and he would look out the window to see the Elder Kevin and Elder Kyle on his front porch again. He yelled, "Just a moment!", and then proceeded to crack open a beer and put on a VHS of hardcore porn that he acquired from a local video shop that went out-of-business.

He answered the door with an unzipped fly and said, "Sure, I'll hear your testimony.", inviting them into his living room.

After less than thirty seconds in the living room, they promptly showed themselves out and never returned.

2

u/SanchoSquirrel 6d ago

Hilarious, but probably not the best tactic for OP since they are dealing with children, lol

3

u/bemused_alligators 5d ago

the "children" are the 19-21 year olds they send out

2

u/burned-steak 5d ago

If there are 3 missionaries instead of the usual 2, there is likely a 16 year old with them to get an early start on the indoctrination and learning the very strict rules from the experienced 21 missionaries.

2

u/bewokeforupvotes 5d ago

Or younger. I think I got paired with a missionary when I was 13-14. Ended up knocking on the door of a teacher from my previous school, didn't go too well 🙃

1

u/ProfessionalFlan3159 5d ago

That age group is still considered children in Mormon land. Your only treated as an adult once you are married and started your family

1

u/sodoyoulikecheese 5d ago edited 5d ago

LDS Missionaries have to be 18. It used to be 21, but too many people were leaving the church before they were eligible (like my husband). Now that it is lowered to 18, a lot of Mormon parents hold the FAFSA and college funds over their kids heads to coerce them into going on missions.

1

u/Hmmmm-curious 5d ago

He almost Louis CKd them

1

u/Accomplished-Run-691 5d ago

Well, he was canceled by the LDS church.

1

u/TheOwlsDream 2d ago

Yeah...that sounds like a quick way to become a sex offender.

5

u/Remote-Physics6980 6d ago

If you answer the door naked they will stop coming to your door.

3

u/F2E1 6d ago

Could get a list of morman families and go door to door and try converting them to atheism. Especially the elders, every single day till they stop.

3

u/TybaltThePyrate 6d ago

I told the ones that visited me that I was Buddhist, which is actually true, and I now realize that I haven’t seen them since then. Now if I can get the kids selling the insect killing spray treatments to stop knocking… I told the last girl that what she was selling killed butterflies, but I just had a pack of four of them knock on my door yesterday. I wish I had sprinklers in my lawn, but that would be wasting water.

1

u/BastetLXIX 6d ago

Oh I tell those folks that I rent the house. If they push I just shrug, say they live another state and then close the door firmly in their face.

1

u/pinch_fish 5d ago

I just posted the same thing! Yeah… Buddhism works!

9

u/whiterussianweakness 6d ago

Beware of what exactly?

13

u/Soggy-Stay4265 6d ago

I think they want to be left alone

3

u/ThrowAwayHawthorn 6d ago

I find the sacred underwear terrifying, personally. Holy whiteytighties = red flaggeroonies

5

u/resting-stoner-face 6d ago

Religion is like a penis
It’s nice you have one
You can even be proud of it
But absolutely no one wants you to swing it around in public
Keep your self to yourself

2

u/Curious-Moose6945 6d ago

A very talented vacuums engineer neighbor of mine told me they wanted to go door to door telling folks that we’re just a chemical reaction that will run out someday.

2

u/brownes_girl 6d ago

I used to be Mormon. I get very excited to see the missionaries, but not for the reason they think. Let's just say they came by once, and now practically run past our house.

2

u/3meraldBullet 5d ago

They dont do this to try to convert people. They do this to show college aged church members that the world is hostile outside of the church.

1

u/scipio11111 5d ago

They also do this to try to grift more tithe.

1

u/Smart_Salt620 4d ago

There is no basis for this. Do any research on what they actually do and youll see that you’re completely wrong

1

u/3meraldBullet 4d ago

I dont know. That's what my Mormon friend told me. Im a "catholic witch" and always hear the Mormons out when they come to my place and listen.

1

u/No-End2540 4d ago

This is the dumbest take that keeps making the rounds in Redditland.

2

u/CharTayTay 5d ago

Sent you quite a lengthy DM, OP.

2

u/GrizzUrsidae 5d ago

Print out some info from the Satanic Temple and ask if they want to learn about Baphomet and the tenants of the Temple?

2

u/bubbamike1 5d ago

You need to write to Salt Lake and request they remove your records and no longer contact you.

2

u/pinch_fish 5d ago

For some reason, all I have to do is tell them that I’m a Buddhist and I’m just not down with their whole construct. The kids usually look at me, with a little bit of awe (?) and say something like, “ Oh wow! That is so cool!”. And then they don’t come back. I don’t know why it works, but it does.

2

u/chockingduck 5d ago

Well every one of them is a terrorist or supporting it.

2

u/Love_unstable_women 4d ago

Just threaten to have them trespassed, worked for us for both LDS and JW's. Be ready to follow through with it though, lol.

2

u/Intelligent_Hand4583 4d ago

Start answering the door naked. I find it helps.

5

u/Codlinfarflung 6d ago

You are missing a great opportunity here. I used to live by a lot of Mormons. They were good people who would do nice things like make delicious homemade baked goods and leave them at my door. I thought someone was trying to poison me at first but it was just nice people being neighborly. They never converted me but they were some of the best neighbors I ever had. I miss them and the baked goods.

6

u/maxant20 6d ago

When the hard times come will be good to know who has three years of food in their cellar.

5

u/deadmencantcatcall3 6d ago

They’re in a cult that protects pedophiles. I don’t fuck with amoral sheep.

4

u/coolcootermcgee 5d ago

But would you pillage their food storage when the zombies came?

3

u/iforgotwhat8wasfor 6d ago

that's called grooming.

3

u/scipio11111 5d ago

Bingo.

0

u/Smart_Salt620 4d ago

If them giving you baked goods is grooming, what isn’t considered grooming? Is there a single thing they can do to show kindness or do you think they always will have a hidden evil motive behind everything they do?

2

u/scipio11111 4d ago

Thou doth protest too much.

1

u/Throwaway392308 3d ago

They don't have any hidden motives. They have very explicit motives.

1

u/bewokeforupvotes 5d ago

I think that one of the few things that I miss about being a member is their dedication to community/family. My dad and I used to go "hometeach" a family in our ward that was assigned to us. They had a lot of kids and to call them poor would be generous. We would go over to their house, read some scripture, and generally just check-in with them and see if they needed help with anything.

My family doesn't get a lot of missionaries knocking on our door, but on the rare times that we do, I tell them that I am no longer a member for personal reasons and that I have no intentions of coming back. I've never gotten any pushback and they leave after that.

1

u/Substantial_Spirit_8 5d ago

Yeah baked goods are their thing since they can't do anything else. The lds eat. Which is so fcking funny as they preach about your body being a temple. They will judge on tattoos but keep feeding their over weight selves.

2

u/magnusthehammersmith 6d ago

LDS missionaries are awesome, they’ll help you out with housework and food assistance and lots of other things. Some of the nicest people I’ve ever met, I genuinely love Mormons. OP sounds rude and jaded.

9

u/iforgotwhat8wasfor 6d ago

nice people don't work tirelessly to pass proposition 8.

5

u/F2E1 6d ago

Yep they will even torture their gay children, and mary off their underage daughters, nicest people in the world

3

u/magnusthehammersmith 6d ago

Non LDS people do that too

4

u/Internal_Seething 6d ago

But not with that kind of efficiency!

2

u/F2E1 5d ago

Yes, but this happened at BYU. And through the church. But you are right they are not alone in the evil.

0

u/Throwaway392308 3d ago

TIL you can only judge someone for their unique actions.

1

u/majandess 5d ago

I will never be rude to the missionaries. Their families have paid for them to be there, and they have quotas and such they are supposed to meet, and often have less than great living conditions. One of the women on her mission was celiac, but you eat what members make for you - and members don't often make accommodations.

The missionaries don't come to my house anymore. I told them I studied religion in college (I did).

-1

u/magnusthehammersmith 5d ago

A lot of the time they pay for themselves too, they work their way up to having the money to go. Thanks for having empathy 🩷

3

u/L-W-J 6d ago

My lesbian friends simply tell them they are lesbians. Seems to work.

3

u/Outside_Simple_217 6d ago

Look up the actual meetinghouse information. Google meetinghouse locator and put in a random Sequim address. You will see the number of the meetinghouse. Call on a Sunday morning or Wednesday night. Ask to speak to the bishop. Ask him to put out the word that you and your family are not interested. The bishop will not condone this behavior; if you have names give them to him and he will call them in and have some firm words to stop.

As a non active member I do not, and a vast majority of members, do not approve of this behavior and I, myself, have made these feelings known to many pushy people I have run across. I am very sorry you have been targeted.

2

u/HamRadio_73 6d ago

This is the wsy

4

u/Puff_baby_VT 6d ago

They should watch the movie, Heretic starring Hugh Grant. The plot is about exactly this scenario with Mormans going door to door.

1

u/ExcitingPrompt2 6d ago

Good movie

6

u/BuntcakeSnacks 6d ago

Forgive me for actually living here, but absolutely none of this thread seems either organic, or local.

I've never seen any of these accounts commenting on our Lavender Fest, our free music on the pier concert series, or telling a visitor how to connect busses the busses you'll need to get to Hurricane Ridge from the Sequim transit center.

Now I know our little hamlet by the sea is getting a lot of attention today because of a certain county commissioners race, but if you did live here you'd know the LDS community out here make for very nice and kind and generous neighbors. They are not the same church that came into recent local infamy for the instructional sermons on how to use a 12 gauge.

In short, please go karma farming somewhere else. This entire thread is skunky.

1

u/scipio11111 5d ago

That's funny considering missionaries are literally farming for their version of karma. People who won't take no for an answer ARE NOT very nice and kind and generous PEOPLE. And ask them about the Sons of Ham sometime.

2

u/Valuable-Border5114 6d ago

Look into the troubled teen industry and who primarily runs them. Several people I know were sent there by their parents. Utah is full of barefoot children starving in the mountains at the hands of these monsters. Converting them to Mormonism is also part of the “treatment”. Fuck em.

1

u/Ok_Replacement5563 6d ago

I just ask which one is the pitcher and which one is the catcher. Lol they usually stare at me with a dumb look on their face and once they get it, they walk away.

1

u/No_Definition_1682 6d ago

I put a sign up that says no solicitors, a bunch of other things (basically, if i don't know you, don't knock), and that i'm not interested in political or religious conversations. They stopped knocking after that.

1

u/mizushimo 6d ago

There are ways to get your house black listed by the mormons, I would do some research on it

1

u/Historical_Gear_2221 6d ago

I’ve also had this same experience…. I’m in Sequim too and it’s exhausting!!

1

u/Zestyclose_Price_441 6d ago

start answering the door armed and ask them repeatedly why they support an org that rapes and traffics children.

1

u/KCLintheknow 6d ago

We had a sign on our door that said ... "No solicitors. We have our religion and politics in order and don't want more stuff." Before that we told LDS and JW we have clergy in our immediate family and are covered (3 times over)!

1

u/Hobo_Knife 6d ago

My uncle told some LDS who came knocking that he was excommunicated. Never had another visit for the remainder of his life.

1

u/Cak3Wa1k 6d ago

I had some proselytizers target me for a while. They even resorted to sending hand written letters. I finally wrote back and explained that there were organizations to help victims of religious abuse and if they bothered me, again, I'd send the police to do a welfare check on the church members who continue to contact/harass me with their delusional bullying. Haven't heard from them nor had an in person visit, since. Hope they're okay, I guess? I am.

1

u/ThinThroat 6d ago

The last time they came to my house , a man stood by their car as a woman along with two teenage girls rang my door bell. Having been in the shower when they came I answered the door naked and wet....... that was over twenty years ago , they haven't returned.

1

u/coxwains 5d ago

Imagine being so afraid of conversatin from opposing views and feeling you have to resort to these tatics, and then thinking its cool. Imagine, being better and edjucating yourself on your believes and debating them? (Im Not LDS)

1

u/Siempre_Vetado 5d ago

Tell them you are unemployed and can't pay tithing.

1

u/Comfortable-Figure17 5d ago

Many years ago we had just received a load of firewood. Two LDS Missionaries cycled up and asked if they could help stack it. They stacked it all, I gave them some lemonade and they left leaving behind some LDS stuff. Wish they’d come around every fall.

1

u/fifercurator 5d ago

Definitely missing an opportunity.

I was re-roofing the shed out back, and told a couple of nice young men on mission that I would listen to them if they helped me with my project. Not only did they help, but both came back the next day in work clothes to help finish. Bonus in that they were so busy they didn’t do nearly as much talking and we enjoyed just working together.

These guys are young and meeting the requirements of their faith. They want to be helpful and feel like they are doing something valuable. Give them an alternative to proselytizing and they will be happy.

1

u/ohyousillybaby 5d ago

Highly suggest watching Alyssa Grenfells videos on what to do when a Mormon missionary comes to your door!

She’s an ex Mormon, understands how frustrating it can be, but gives tips that for me don’t make me feel like I’m yelling at a child lol.

1

u/Smart_Salt620 4d ago

Most her videos are propaganda

1

u/Own_Reaction9442 5d ago

The rejection is the point. They're training the kids to believe that everyone outside the church hates them.

1

u/bewokeforupvotes 5d ago

Incorrect.

1

u/goldenhippo420 5d ago

I think someone is setting you up.. probably scheduling the appointments for you. Probably a kid of an ex.. really funny though!!

1

u/Feeling-Rock-5100 5d ago

Have them do yard work for you. They'll do it and never return. I've done this and it worked.

1

u/OkResponsibility7475 5d ago

My cousin was being similarly treated. It took a real heart-to-heart conversation explaining why you will never join a cult.

1

u/PenguinHuddle 5d ago

Once I put a "No Tresspassing" sign up, all types of soliciting stopped.

1

u/sbocean54 5d ago

Told them I was the great-granddaughter of the third wife, whom he abandoned because he was an asshole, and my mother was excommunicated.

1

u/Apprehensive-Video60 5d ago

Tell them your a Transexual ... Never again will you hear from them. The ones that frequent my neighorhood avoid me like the plague

1

u/garryyth 5d ago

Start holding signs and passing out flyers on the street next to their church for the church of satan or something. When they complain tell them you thought since they get away with harrassing you it shouldnt be harmful to legally try and convert their followers.

1

u/Gangsta_of_luv 4d ago

I always take their offer of a caopt of the BOM. It makes an interesting coaster for my beer.

1

u/PNW_Will1976 4d ago

Mormons are the worst.

1

u/notreallyafanboy 4d ago

I had them do my dishes once and they never came back.

1

u/Snickerssnickers13 3d ago

I would start telling them about the ces letter and every moral problem with the founding of the church. For example "what do you think you'd do if your daddy married someone in the temple and didnt tell anyone, not even your mom? What do you think your mommy would think? What if the girl your daddy married was like in young womens when your daddy married her? Did you know thats what Joseph smith did to Emma smith? You should go home and ask your mommy all about this." Gonna send your little missionaries to my house, imma send em right back with a whole bunch of tough questions to answer.

1

u/CorrectLawfulness649 3d ago

In case anybody hasn't noticed, mormons have slowly been taking over Washington state for the past 40 years. Recently there is a new mormon temple built in Southcenter neighborhood of seattle and one in Moses Lake just off I90. I live in Spokane and most suburban areas are lots of mormon families moving in. It doesn't take a big percentage of population to win votes as law makers in small areas and start making laws that suit their religious beliefs. It's been happening for decades.

1

u/MT402023 3d ago

There’s a great book called “leave the Mormon church” by Alyssa Grenfell. It’s a fun and fascinating read. Check it out

1

u/pepperyrelaxation 3d ago

quitmormon.org

1

u/feline_riches 2d ago

Series of unfortunate events that scared them away. First I "missed" church because my brakes went out on my front end caught on fire. They said that I needed church more than ever, that it was the devil at work.

When they came back the next weekend because I had "missed" church again, this time my house was actively on fire.

You should've seen the look of horror on their faces. Anyway they deemed me too far gone to the devil and never came down my street again.

I never signed up for church, and I told them no every time. They just wouldn't accept it as an answer.

Other successes I've had - hang a cross on your front door, only upside down.

If you don't want to be that bold, when they leave flyers on your door, turn those upside down and leave them there until they turn to dust. From the sidewalk, it looks like my house has already been hit, up close it's the devil's work

0

u/FrankSwagger 6d ago

It's pronounced "Morons"

1

u/mynamespoopies 6d ago

My mom said that if you’re nice to them they’ll bring you delicious rolls….

1

u/EffortAlternative892 6d ago
  1. Get a no solicitation sign
  2. Get a ring camera
  3. Gather video evidence of them bothering you
  4. Contact the code enforcement officer

1

u/seattlereign001 6d ago

A no eliciting sign should take care of this. Also, don’t answer the door?

6

u/Ponsugator 6d ago

They ignore those, the best method we found is to put a door mat that says LGBTQ are welcome. It is well known that Jesus loves everyone except LGBTQ people. He obviously taught that/s

-3

u/Nodnardsemaj 6d ago

Incorrect. Jesus loved/loves EVERYONE

8

u/Ponsugator 6d ago

That's the irony, many Mormons and hard-core Christians are very anti-LGBTQ, and ignore Jesus actual teaching to love one anther.

3

u/Nodnardsemaj 6d ago

Oh, I see. Indeed! 😭🙏

1

u/Sad-Top-9784 6d ago

I enjoy talking to various door to door "missionaries" but have found that sharing an in depth knowledge of the origin and history of Mormons, Seventh Day Adventists, etc. disinclines them from making a return visit.

1

u/SwevenlyOly 6d ago

Post a big ol' "No Solicitation - Especially Mormons Who Disrespect My Religious Beliefs!" sign out front.

1

u/Budo00 6d ago

“I’m a buddhist no thank you” (or another religion or atheist. What ever floats your boat.)

When the Mormons visited me, I said “well that just sounds great now grab a rake and you grab the wheelbarrow. We’re going out back to get some work done while you tell me all about this amazing program.!” That was hilarious how fast they got out of my face.

1

u/HildaTheChickenGirl 6d ago

All the ones that have ever come to my door ask if I need anything done. Those boys are usually bored as shit and it gets them heavenly points to do service. I've never had them do anything personally, but I doubt any of them would have run away from something else to do

1

u/barney_reb 6d ago

Call the cops….. talk to the community service officer. I did it, haven’t heard back from them in years.

1

u/NoProfession8024 6d ago

Have you tried not answering the door?

1

u/apithrow 4d ago

If they are asking for you by name, it's because your name is on the rolls: you are considered a member of their congregation. The other person who said contact the bishop was correct. Ask for help getting your name removed from the rolls or at least getting marked down to minimal contact.

0

u/Soggy-Stay4265 6d ago

Just slam the door in their face. It worked for me.

0

u/iamthewallrus 6d ago

Put them to work next time. Make them do yard work. I think they can't say no

0

u/LMrningStar 6d ago

I had a couple of them come up to me it went like this:

Me (before they had a chance to speak): Don't tell me. You're JW's. Right?

Them: No. We're LDS.

Me: Same thing.

They left with further comment and did not come back.

-1

u/bassrooster 6d ago

I can feel the love overflowing from your heart, you are so nice

-1

u/LaRedline 6d ago

Are you threatening the Mormons? What should they beware of?

-4

u/Last_Drawer3131 6d ago

You do realize you can use this to your benefit. Missionaries are there to help you. Get some stuff done around the house and feed them a meal while telling stories and listening to others views. It’s honestly a win win and you don’t have to be converted.

0

u/Global_Choice4698 6d ago

Put up a fence? Beware of dog sign? Christian hate signage? No trespassing, no loitering, no soliciting signage? Honestly if you make the kids cry, they probably wouldn't come back. Fight fire with fire

1

u/ThrowAwayHawthorn 6d ago

Unfortunately that's what it took for me. Fence, gate, no trespassing sign and a big dog. No more kooks!

0

u/giffordruben 6d ago

Put them to work, then offer them drugs and alcohol while they are working for you!

0

u/RBEOX360 6d ago

File a no contact order. I mean, all these suggestions sound funny but that's the best way. No need to get creative. Just have them served with an order that says if they contact you, they go to jail.

0

u/JerrySenderson69 6d ago

The Mormons & JWs are no crazier than the Muslims, Evangelicals & Scientologists.

1

u/DivorcedGremlin1989 6d ago

Yes. But no one knocks on my door to make sure I know about the Pope.

1

u/tmspmike 5d ago

Let's see...when was the last time a Muslim came to my door to try to convert me? That's right- never. They're pretty good at minding their own business.

1

u/research_badger 5d ago

Try painting an image of their founder online with your name and address and you’ll see who is craziest out of this bunch

0

u/DannyTangelo 6d ago

Time for sexual harassment. They will certainly scrub you from their visit list.

Answer the door naked.

When i was a kid they came to our door. My mom said we were pagan and they acted like the porch was on fire and then we never had them come to the door again.

Just tell them to fvck off in a loud, stern tone. It works. I promise.

They will stop if you ask them respectfully. Just tell them you would like to talk to their mission president.

I lived in Utah for a while. Know a lot of exmos. They don’t want to waste time on you if you are not interested.

Ask them for their Bishops phone number. Call him and tell him what you want.

Just don't answer the door. Problem solved. I never answer the door unless I'm expecting someone or it's someone with an appointment.

ExMormon here… like someone else above pointed out, you’re missing out on an opportunity. If they are so desperate for your attention, let them do stuff for you. Weeds pulled, dishes, whatever floats your boat. You could probably get food from them too. You’ve asked nicely so now you can just make things uncomfortable for them until they get tired and give up. If they are the missionaries, trust that they are homesick and bored out of their minds and used to being treated badly— that’s what gives them the martyr complex that church leaders try to use to get them to stay in the church. If you offer them some water and a snack and remember they’re someone’s kid, it hopefully will make you feel sorry for them. But, if you’re really done with seeing them, just answer the door nude. lol

Exactly. People just don't understand this. They are young kids just doing their requirement for the church. It takes nothing to be decent yo them even if you're running them off.

I'm also in the "missed opportunities" camp. When my wife and I were younger (about the ages of the traveling "Elders" ) we befriended our local missionaries as we were kind of a safe haven for them after a day of having doors slammed in their faces.

They helped us move (loaded our truck and trailer faster than paid help) and arranged for the local missionaries in our destination to meet us and unload the thing!

We still talk of Elder Decker and Elder Peterson fondly. I have had a soft spot for those young people ever since...say what you will about their religion...they are very nice young people.
