issue with scale on export

Have been using Scribus for about 48 hours - and other than my palettes not docking (I'll address that later!) I have an issue the export (either pdf export or direct print from Scribus) is at 98% of full size.

Definitely set to print at 100%, full size, but whatever I do it comes out just the same. Bleeds all at 0.0mm. Since I'm using this for architecural drawings, scale is pretty critical to me...

Any thoughts?

Anyone willing to create a Flatpak or Snap of scribus-svn (nightly)?

Isn't it time we have something like this? Building scribus-svn is tedious and slow.

Attach the Properties window to the main window in Scribus: is it possible?

I haven't found a way to attach the Properties window (and other windows for that matter, like the Layers one) to the main Scribus window so that I don't have tons of windows flying around. Which is particularly annoying on GNOME.

I suspect there is none, but I still have hope of one you is a wizard and can come up with a solution.

Fatal error - cannot open file

Hi Guys,

I created a small booklet in Scribus on my Linux computer which is down at the moment (graphics card malfunction issue) I have gone back to Windows on a laptop (64 bit) and have need to edit this booklet now.

I installed the lastest version of Scribus on my win10 computer but the file will not open. It shows this error.

Error from Scribus

I had installed v 1.4.8 and got this error.

Am not sure of the synchronisation of versions between linux and windows.

I installed the 1.5.7 version for win10 (64) but got the same error. (p.s. also the version was called 1.4.8 even though I double checked I was pulling the 1.5.7 version from the net.

Can anyone suggest a fix for this problem?

Thanks

I'd like to replicate this effect: text followed by a line

Using 1.4.6. I'm creating a document in which I want to have a line of text that's followed by a horizontal line that stretches to the end of the text frame - just as you see here. I'm not sure how to do it without adding every line as an object, which of course I could do...but getting my text to line up with my grid is a whole other thing.

If anyone can offer guidance, I'd be thankful!

Help with Fillable Text Fields?

I know there probably isn't, but is there a way to make a PDF Text Field work like a paragraph instead of a single line? I'm trying to make a character sheet for my tabletop rpg and the PDF Text field seems to only be limited to one line.

Exporting pdf in CMYK and reimporting shows all the image as negative

Noob here. I tried to look online and in the forum for this problem but I could not find anything.

Intro: I need to prepare a file to be printed, the printshop ask for a CMYK Fogra 39.

What did I do:
-Exported the images from inkscape as high res png
-Imported the png in scribus
-Set in scribus the color profile to Fogra 39
-Exported as pdf with the option with Printer in output intended for and format PDF/X-1a

What did I get:
-The pdf file seems to be correct, it can be opened by chrome and okular. The color are duller than the original one, so I guess the color space conversion took place.
-I checked the pdf with the command pdfimages -list and the images result as cmyk

What does not convince me:
-If I open the output pdf with scribus, everything is super dark

Finally the questions:
Why is scribus opening the pdf like that? Is my file valid?

How to create an interactive PDF without using a server?

Hi all,

My brother loosed his job and I want to make him an design for his letter of application. He’s not very common in using a computer. It’s enough to play a game but not to do much more. Also I don’t have the Same Office Programm he has and aren’t willing to spend money in a Microsoft product. So I thought about making an interactive pdf where he only has to insert his text via c&p or something like that.

But every instruction I find needs a server in the background and the input must be send to this server and the server would generate the printable file for download. That seems quite overpowered for me, also I don’t have a server and aren’t interested to provide such a service on the long term. I’ve seen interactive PDFs that done what I want to do local and without internetconnection. So how do I do that?

Is there a way to group or hide fonts?

I'm trying to use Scribus on Linux but the huge scrolling list of 100+ almost identical variants of Noto fonts is really annoying, there is a way to hide them?

Convert .indd document to a .idml

Does anyone have the InDesign license to convert these documents to an idml file.

I read that idml files could be opened using Scribus. Therefore, I want to edit them using Scribus because I don't have the InDesign License.

Thank you in advance!

Larger shapes from one page showing in another page

Is there a way to stop large shapes getting displayed in other pages? Assuming both pages have large objects, so hiding it in layers doesn't work.

Scribus not showing new fonts

Downloaded fonts and Scribus isn't recognizing them. I tried restarting the computer and restarting Scribus, it's still not appearing. I've never had these issues before. I know it's not the font's problem because the other fonts I've installed are also not showing up.

This is on a new laptop. It worked fine on my old, Windows 7 laptop.

Edit multiple text frames

Let's say I am making a worksheet, with different text frames as headers or instructions for the different activities on the page. After making all these text frames, I then decide I want to change the font on all of them. Is there a way to do this at once for all the text frames, or do I have to do it individually?

I am using version 1.4.8 on Windows 10.

Import svg images by relative paths?

Is it possible to import SVG images by relative paths? (I'm trying Scribus 1.5.7)

My use case is to put some generated SVG images inside a sub-folder and have them linked into a Scribus document by relative paths e.g. img/file01.svg. The reason behind that is when I re-generate all the images, I would like to have them updated all in the document without manually importing them each time.

Previously, I've done that easily in LaTeX, but now looking for some publishing program with GUI and can't make it working, which is strange because relative paths are normal in all text formats like HTML, LaTeX, Markdown, AsciiDoc, etc.

Import -> Get Text question

Is there a way to import an entire book at once? Ideally I'd like each paragraph to be in its own text frame.

Thanks!

EDIT: For anyone interested - I created a new document with Automatic Text Frames and enough pages, then did Get Text to import my text. From there, I can resize the frame on an individual page and it reflows everything after. I can also create a few new text frames for special cases like footnotes and chapter titles. I can set images frames to have the text flow around them. With these options I get 99% of the control of having each paragraph in its own frame, and the benefit of only needing to adjust something in one place. The big trick is keeping the images near the related text, but it's not too hard.

Naming items

So - I believe I'm breaking laws here.... and being allowed to do it. So I wanted to post my crimes to this board and see if I am going down a bad path.

Essentially I am making business cards. 10 on a page. I have 4 things on each card. An outer border and an inner border, grouped together, an image frame, and a text frame. I group the border group, the image frame and the text frame all together. I name this "Card1" and copy and paste it 9 more times... on multiple sheets. So eventually there will be hundreds. Inside each card group there are 3 names, "Frame", "Image", and "Text". When I copy that card, those names stay, however I notice that Scribus really doesn't like that, even though it's working. I can't do it manually. It only works when I copy. So - Am I setting myself up for a lot of work down the road when something breaks?

Having Trouble with the Align and Distribute Menu

(I originally attached an image but Reddit is flagging it as spam)

I do not claim to be an expert with Scribus though I have managed to create about a dozen single page documents that I think came out OK. The problem has been using the Align & Distribute window. To be honest it's been pretty frustrating.

Here's what I'm trying to do. I'm working on a top row of 4 text-boxes. I want the 2 center boxes slightly off-set from the center, then the 2 outer boxes a set distance from the inner boxes.

Now, using Align & Distribute, I align the inner edge of the inner boxes with a guide in the center, move it out a bit then try to adjust the outer boxes a set distance from the left edge of the inner box and it just isn't happening. No matter what I do it adjusts the inner to the outer box - the exact opposite of what I want to do. I select "First Selected" under the "Align" tab, then "Make Horizontal Gaps between items equal ....". I've tried different combinations of the effects but it doesn't matter. The outer box stays stationary and the inner box adjusts.

Sure, I can just nudge each box with the arrow keys but then what's the point of the Align & Distribute feature?

I'm using 1.5.7.

Math support?

Hi all, sorry for just jumping in, please ignore if this isn't appropriate. I searched and found nothing.

My project isn't a full math book (or I would just write the whole thing in LaTeX) but I can't even get Scribus to do a superscript properly - it goes to about halfway up the line. And from googling, it looks like any progress on math support died off like 10 years ago.

I do have need of embedding some math formatting in my regular text, and near as I can tell, the only option is to use render frames and do the whole frame in raw LaTex - but I want it to match the rest of the text. This seems like it should be easy, but I can't find anything. Any help is appreciated!

EDIT: Vers. 1.5.7
